    Another benefit of the flail mower is the length. Not as long as a bush hog, so it makes maneuvering easier. Great list! Thanks for sharing, Tony! 👍😎

      The only recommendation I have is DO NOT go through Kubota for a flail mower, they want $7k+ for one. Lots of other brands out there for a heck of a lot less money.
      A flail mower definitely is better in tight spaces, which is something I'd go with over a rotary cutter...but, they're still way too expensive for something I'd only use once or twice a year.

    Good video. For me it was grapple first because of how many trees we cut down. They are worth their weight in gold when you have a lot of logs and tree branches to move. We will also be purchasing a set of pallet forks, a tiller, and possibly a box blade this spring. Pallet forks mainly so we can off load trailers & semi's if we have new equipment delivered, but I am sure we will use them for other things too. We already have a 54" mower that the wife uses, though I would not mind a flail mower. That will come later down the line.

    For me, I wanted the backhoe attachment and I knew that I would never be able to justify it later, so throw it in when you get the tractor if you can swing it. It's a mild pita to put on and take off, but I've used it quite a bit, sometimes to make up for lack of other implements. ;)
    And get the 40HP+. A lot of guys get by with 25hp, but they're pushing harder. If you look at the popular youtube videos, you'll see it's anemic. Sucks to finally get a tractor and not be able to do all the things though 25hp is better than 0hp!
    An old timer neighbor told me I should get a skid steer instead of a tractor when I was still thinking about it. In retrospect, he was probably right, so I'll pay that forward here. But why not both, right?
    Just before buying mine, I actually hired some guys to park out part of the property with their skid steer and forestry mulcher (which kept breaking down btw). Had a lot of hawthornes so it was worth it to farm that part out! Those things are the devil, no flats yet, but they go right through thick rubber mud boots and into your foot and break off at the tip.

    I just paid for my new Kioti CK2620HST on Wednesday of this week...it's coming with loader with 60" bucket, 3rd function and Dirt Dog double grapple and dealership had promo for one free implement and I chose a Dirt Dog 60" box blade. I've been you tubing it for mower choices and after your videos I do believe it'll be a flail mower. Prob be acquiring a set of forks for the loader as well, as you & others have stated...used for many tasks.

    I Agree with your 5 items (Mostly). However, I feel the order is for the most part dependent upon your individual needs vs wants. For example, I have no needs currently for a mowers nor tillers but high need is a snowblower (front mounted due to medical reasons). Therefore my list is: Blower, rear grader blade, forks, grapple and lastly log splitter. Wants would be: auger, garden tiller and thrasher-mower. 😊

    You are spot-on with your recommendations, Tony - especially with respect to the forks. They are without a doubt the most versatile attachment I own. From being the poor man's grapple to lifting heavy objects, forks just can't be beat at multi-tasking.
    I chose to buy an entry-level rotary cutter instead of a flail mower because I was pretty sure that I was going to beat up whatever cutter I bought getting my property worked into shape. The mower I bought is still working, but it did take somewhat of a beating while I found all of the rocks and stumps on my land. When it does give up the ghost, I will replace it with a flail.
    Take care and God Bless.

    I think for your circumstances your list is spot on. I agree on the mower selection as well. I don't have a mower, but if I ever get one, the flail mower will be the style I select. I don't do any mowing currently with my tractor. Forks are top of my list as well. Can do many things, not the best, but can get away without a grapple with forks. Doesn't work as well for everything, but can get the job done. My forks are on most of the time these days, but if I'm doing brush or a lot of logs, the grapple is on. Expensive to add to a tractor, but can be added in on initial purchase and SHOULD be if a guy is entertaining the idea of a grapple. Just get the 3rd function right away. They can be used for more things than just a grapple. Good video Tony as usual.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The 3rd function was almost $2,000 to have added after the fact...was stupid and being a new tractor buyer I let my dealer talk me out of the 3rd function kit....not that I have anything that uses that function right now, but I had it added as I thought about getting a grapple but after looking at prices and weight, they make no sense on a small sub-compact tractor, they take up 1/2 the lift capacity which is already very sub-par to begin with.

    • @timbervisions
      @timbervisions 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @wildbill23c I had a 48 inch Worksaver grapple on my subcompact tractor. It weighed less than 200 lbs. That was less than 20% of the lift capacity of its loader. Worked quite well.

    @MartyHenderson-ie9sp 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hello Tony. Great information as always. I totally agree with all items. I did buy them in a different order to fit my needs on my place. I bought the 3rd function and grapple before my T474 was delivered. You are absolutely correct in that it changes everything a person ever thought about using a tractor. Whatever brand or style a person chooses, it is absolutely a game changing attachment. I bought a heavy duty hydraulic slide flail mower with 18 - 3.3 pound hammers on it. WORLD of difference in cutting quality between it and a rotary cutter. I bought a set of pallet forks and to this day, I keep finding uses for them. I also bought a box blade as I already had a rear grader blade. The most recent implement is a drum aerator that I use for 4 different purposes. Keep doing what you are doing Tony and I always enjoy your content. Thanks.

  • @PeaceIntheValley
    @PeaceIntheValley 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    Hey Tony, good video. I do disagree on purchasing the tiller. The reason is if you live within 10 or 20 miles of an ace rental or another rental store then you can rent it for 50 bucks for a weekend this alleviates the need to maintain or store the tiller And it would take off a lot of rentals to make up for the cost of a new tiller.
    I would also add when you buy your first piece of equipment to include a hydraulic top link. They really are a game changer. You are right about selecting the right grapple , the grapple I bought is too heavy even though I can’t pick up pretty big logs with it. It is also a poor design. There are many more options now for smaller tractors that are better than when I bought mine.

    Don't disagree with any of yer list bit one question for a beginner tractor owner what are your thoughts between a rotary cuter and a flia probably spelled that wrong what do you think would be better a lot of dealers put them in a package deal was just wondering what yer thoughts were if one would be easier or harder to learn

    • @TonysTractorAdventure
      @TonysTractorAdventure  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The flail mower is much easier to use because it doesn't stick out as far. Because rotary cutter sticks out so far, they will tend to pull the tractor sideways on hills. Most dealerships sell rotary cutter packages because they are cheaper.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Depends on what you are going to do with the mower. If you want to mow your lawn, a finish mower or flail mower would work, if you have room to turn the thing around...a rotary cutter or brush hog is for cutting thick brush, small saplings...it ain't a finish mower, and will never come close to being one...and they stick out so far behind the tractor that unless you have a nice wide open field of several acres to cut, don't waste money on a rotary cutter.
      A flail mower can cut small saplings around an inch in diameter if you get one with hammers rather than knives....and keep in mind many flail mowers you can swap between hammers and knives, so you can cut grass or brush if you swap the blades out...where a rotary cutter is really just for tearing things up and I wouldn't recommend one for cutting down anything more than saplings, that is what a chainsaw is for, all that hard cutting of cutting down small trees with a rotary cutter is very damaging to your mower and your tractor. They do make a tree shear that mounts on the loader and runs off a 3rd function hydraulic port which would be the way to go if you are trying to clear a field of trees, otherwise buy a good chainsaw LOL.
      A flail mower doesn't stick out the back of the tractor nearly as far as a rotary cutter...a finish mower is about the same amount of mower sticking out the back as a flail mower....so neither are too bad for confined spaces, but you still gotta have room to turn around.
      I can mow my yard with my sub-compact tractor and mid-mount mower but its just as quick with my lawn tractor by the time I swap stuff around on my tractor to install the mower deck, I'd be done with the lawn tractor LOL.
      Neither mower is hard to learn, you just have to remember you got a pretty significant piece of equipment hanging on the back of your tractor, so you have to learn how to turn properly without snagging fences, gates, etc.

    • @wildbill23c
      @wildbill23c 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Clamp on forks are garbage...if you want forks, get the proper ones that mount on the loader frame, not on the bucket. You significantly decrease your lift capacity with clamp on forks, you bend the crap out of your bucket, and no matter what you do those clamp on forks don't stay tight.

    I was going to get a grapple but they're ridiculously expensive for their limited capacity on my sub-compact tractor.
    A flail mower would be great, but once again very expensive for something I would only use once or twice a year. Rotary cutter would be the same thing.
    I have a loader, box blade, rear grading blade, and a roto-tiller, as well as a set of pallet forks which aren't really for my tractor so it severely limits my lift capacity because they're for a larger tractor, and trying to get a hold of a set of pallet forks for a sub-compact tractor at the time was impossible.
    The only additional attachments I'd like to get would be the landplane, and possibly the landscape rake.

  • @andrewgee241
    @andrewgee241 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

    It seems you can't do a video like this and not address why the backhoe wasn't on the list. Too expensive? Not as versatile as one of the Chinese excavators? Or should you just rent one once a year if you have a digging project?

    • @floridacoder
      @floridacoder 24 วันที่ผ่านมา

      I thought the same thing, but from the opinions of influencers I have seen, a backhoe on a 3pt hitch is often complained about and a regretful expense. I can't say first hand, but often they suggest just renting an excavator when you need a backhoe because it was built for that job.
      I would probably go for a post hole digger before the backhoe. Unless I had some task I did often that needed a backhoe, but not often enough to justify buying an excavator. But that's also an implement people seem to complain about because many aren't easy to attach or operate apparently.
