What a block by Chiarot, dive pass by Motte, and finish by Bergy. That was all grit, you can see the difference in energy since Mclellan has taken over.
The fire was lit on their arses. Fire the coach... "whos next?" you get my drift? So yea. the fire was lite. Reminds me of the laid back approach the team had after Bowman retired and Smith took over for a couple of years.
That was goaltender interference in my opinion. Not surprised the league got it wrong though. Refs should automatically review that, Shouldn't have to risk getting a penalty.
He preached to the younger guys don't be afraid to make mistakes, id say thats leading by example, players did their job and bailed him out by killing off that pp and then Berggren sealing it was just icing on the cake.
@lordvenom83 Aha! Devin and Evan teaming up with Tony? A sure end around move from a person with the initials M. Z. Thanks for the heads up. Will have to pay homage to the Flying Octopus.
Never like to see a player go down, but if Petry is out for a little I’ll be very excited to see AJo get a run of games and really see what he has finally
Guys smiling on the bench and fully engaged is a complete 180 from where they were before Christmas…completely agree the change is related to using the players talents and what they bring, instead of trying shove a system on players it doesn’t fit. TMC has structure but also giving the players enough freedom to play hockey. Love the change!!
The biggest difference I see in their play is that they're playing much more physical. Hits matter and it looks like McLellan told everyone (especially Petry, Rasmussen, and Veleno) to put the opposition on their asses instead of floating by them
A+ coaching in putting Veleno on Larkins line. Larkin is freed from chasing the opponent puck carrier all over the ice and allows him to save his energy for offensive chances. Putting Berggren in the box after his last break away goal was genius..
I don't hate the kid, but I do believe he's a better trade asset than a Danielson or Wallinder. If I remember right he didn't sign right away leading to what I believe will eventually be another contract dispute. Get him gone before he wants 6.5m for 40 pts a year.
@danb239 it's conjecture obviously because I haven't all the information, but I would highly assume he would want a big pay day. He's been really stepping his game up and I think he's a damn good player, but the Wings are gonna have a smorgasbord of good prospects on their way up and there won't be enough room for all of them. Bergy is the odd man out imo. I thought last year at the deadline he was gonna get a new destination. In the next 5-10 games we'll know more about this team and can make better analysis, but right now at this moment this is my thought.
Jonny Berger reminds of Raymond, maybe a little behind Lucas’s development, but he was clutch tonight. Two years ago he was fairly productive and had a leading role in GR last year.
To me the difference is no more b.s., players don't respect coaches that either fluff them up too much or make some inconsistent comments in regards to their play, this is why Maurice resurrected his career in Florida, because his message is consistent. There seemed to be no message from lalonde that made sense, "we did play better than the outcome, we did some good things, i think we got a little...", all just ho hum b.s.. pandering, he had no energy in his pressers, that's contagious. Mcclenen is just more positive sounding, tone goes a lot way in the locker room, but also I believe the players flat out did not take lalonde seriously, he had no voice outside the room so why would it be likely he had much of one in the locker room. If you think that the players will quit on mcclenen then you might as well lambast every franchise in sports. These players are kids, your brain doesn't fully mylinate til nearly 30, 2hich is why players reach their prime at the same age, but thus is still a young team that needs to be motivated, poked, sometimes proded, and encouraged, that's why all teams have coaches. The reason why they didn't need this as much last year is because they had perron to shoot things straight and keep the team on point, but when you go young you need a paternal figure in the locker room, not some guy who's known for partying with the players like he did in tampa in a lame mid life crisis like attempt to be a players coach. But I hope lalonde learns from this and has success wherever else he goes, as long as its not against the wings.
@@bradmaguire9611 There's a fundamental perception that the coach in the modern NHL has a bearing on the on-ice results beyond line making and systems management. If a millionaire needs a guy to tell him special words to make him feel like playing, that isn't a coaching problem.
@ all anyone is reporting is about the roster’s feelings, how much better everyone is feeling, despite admitting the problem is still in the locker room.
@workshoptelescope a millionaire doesn't make money on his own they need a lot of help and they have a team, but you keep telling yourself that's how the world works, if there's a break in the chain on that millionaires team, they don't become a millionaire they fail, then fire people, then rebuild, or they fail and go work for McDonald's, lalonde failed and will get another coaching job, so that's just a strawman argument that doesn't even make sense.
Ive watched the last 3 games, thats as many as i watched leading up to Lalondes firing. I couldn't stand watching the dump and chase bullshit gameplan. Hockey is fun again!!!
They were quite literally "unwatchable" this season under newsy. Whatever it was that he was doing to these guys to have them playing like that, was like watching 30-50 yr old beer league hockey. These guys now look like NHL hockey players for the first time all year and I don't care if any of them read this because it is true.
How many times did newsy say he was going to get Dan Campbell into the locker room to address the boys. I’m curious of what McClellan thinks of the lions and MCDC based on what’s he’s seen from a far
No this is not a designed structure by McLennan. He specifically said today or yesterday that they need to work on their gas tank in the second. I disagree with that notion wholeheartedly, Brian.
@ I agree, I just think now that they are playing a little hard and more physical so of the division games say Ottawa might get heated might be a good thing to have Wats up there
So glad that they aren't playing that super conservative style they did under LaLonde. They're actually allowed to shoot the puck and push the offense. Our defense was never strong enough to play that kind of style so we were just getting scored on with little to no push back with offense. No wonder the fans were booing at games. No more of that. No more of those ridiculous 10 shots in three periods type of games.
it's funny how all the Wings homer channels and x accounts sound embarrassed now when they mention Kane and try to almost rush past it or not mention him, bc you all turned on him and spent months trashing him and disrespecting him constantly and now are trying to rush past it like you didn't just do that. Brian Fisher here was complaining on x a week or two ago about ESPN or TNT using Kane to promote their broadcast of a Wings game rather than Raymond. he was utterly indignant that one of the biggest draws and biggest stars in league history was being used for promotion rather than his homegrown guy.
Mc knew he wouldn't win that review. He was testing the team. Bergie in the box was no fluke either. 30 years of experience sees what we don't. Now scratch Tarasenko for Fish.
Certainly a lot more fun to watch. Clearing pucks out of your zone is so much better. Effort is there but I don't trust the players that gave up in front of Newsy won't give up in front of T-Mac. Easier game to watch. LGRW 🏒
@@danb239agreed. Having zero faith in the system/philosophy doesn’t mean you’re not trying. It usually means you’re going to beat your head against the wall with less enthusiasm.
Still, if a professional is willing to stop performing, in front of paying customers, in his own building, I do not want him on my home team. He is not a winner on or off the ice.
The boys are just fun to watch again and that was a fun game tonight great ending!
