While this technique might be good if you've had a bad couple of weeks and want to bump up your rating, I wouldn't recommend this to new drivers. It's going to artificially inflate their rating and they're going to end up in a car and potentially lobby way above their racecraft ability. They're going to end up likely not enjoying the race because everyone is quicker and more importantly potentially ruin other people's race for the same reason.
If someone is constantly chasing safety rating, they should look at impriving their racecraft.
Like a few others, I wasnt aware the SR was active in iRacing practice! Thanks for that 👍
Yh I think this is good if you want to increase your safety rating as a driver who can handle the increased skill
Greetings from the US ! You are my go to for informative content. Cheers !
I'm completely new to Sim Racing. I started ACC a little over a year ago on a controller and have since advanced to an entry level wheel and pedals.
That said, I stayed in game practicing, running career mode and championships etc., to learn all I could about racing GT3's-4's, all the while increasing my SA, along with the rest of it.
When I decided to go online, I knew better than to go to public servers.
Instead, I found a league that gives serious rookies a chance to race and learn. In that, I have been able to maintain a good SA....so far.😆
Didn't mean to go so long but, thought a new racers point of view and approach might give a different perspective.
'Hope the vacation was good Dave and great stuff as always.'👍
He Dave was fun racing you. Thanks for bringing me to youtube ;-) Greetings from the guy in the red Ferrari.
You've got the crew chief running👏👏 I haven't got an update yet. Very informativ stuff from You as always.Thx!
You can get the beta from the crew chief forum 👍
@@davecamyt Nice, thank You!
You should only worry about driver rating. Safety rating comes naturally and it’s much easier to gain when your racing against competent drivers.
The halo sounds a lot like the cage on a hockey goalies mask, it's basically invisible to me. Awesome video, excited for your season
wait until the driver in front of you in the red Ferrari figures out you were barely racing 😂
Hurry up and bring in VR support, this looks fun.
Nice video, needs to be said more! I was gonna do a video like this for the casuals as now I am a silver rank casual slow racer its funny to see super quick Gold drivers with a Bronze 0 safety rank lol. Reminder though, as you mention it a bit in the video, that in LMU the skill aspect is actually called Driver Rank. And the Safety one is just Safety Rank. So its not DR you're increasing but the SR.
I´m racing on iracing for 9 months now, road and oval races. In the Road Races, i tried to get as much irating as possible, and did the opposite in the oval races, so i tried to earn as much sr as possible to get the A-Licence. Now, i got the A-licences in both categories, BUT: My Irating on road is 1750, in oval-races appr. 900. Now it is very very hard to raise my irating on ovals, too many wrecks and morons in every race. So i think it is better to raise irating first, it is easier to get Safety-Rating with gentle opponents. Sorry for my bad english 🙂
what i have found in the ovals is if you hang back but stay in touch you will get double green. Ovals seem to be foot to the floor, hang on, and stay out of trouble. Let everyone else do the work for you
I think it might be easier early on for oval races but harder earlier on in road races. I think the racing on roads / circuits gets more predictable the higher the standard of driver
@@braveheart4603 thats true, but ovals do seem to be pretty consistent at every level. one person makes a mistake and wipes out half the field and there is a free 10 places
SR isn't meant to be farmed. People need to learn how to race smarter to gain SR.
Thank you for saying this. Good racecraft can/should still be practiced while racing competitively.
I would generally agree with you except for the SR system in iRacing is pretty punitive. Every IRL race driver wouldn’t be able to race if the track limits and ‘bumps’ were enforced as rigorously as in iRacing. A few ‘offs’ over a few races will take 10+ ‘perfect’ races to recover from.
You are obviously assuming that everyone is brand new to racing. That they have no experience with racing at all. I would suggest the problem with bad driving has more to do with attitude, aggression and aspirations of greatness than this system of licensing.
I get what you’re saying but it’s crazy the amount of times that I’ve tried to drive as safely as possible, giving people way more room than they should need, and still gotten hit. Also, getting hit from behind by people braking too late or people rejoining the track at the worst time and place. Those situations are where most of my SR losses have come from. It’s not as simple as “race smarter”.
@@ChadGeidel You can't just log in for another race as an irl driver. Irl licensing takes that fact into account.
I drive too cautious, i dont think ill get past 3k IR due to me being more worried about others, im just not aggressive enough 😂
Same, its almost like I typed this myself.
if you're talking about iRating, 3,000 iRating is really good already, though. :)
The same as most of us mate 😂
I’ve raced two, 2hr and 40min endurance races over the last two weeks and gotten 18x between them. You go into any sprint race and you have 8 on the first lap mostly due to ghost 4x. The system is I need of an overhaul. I went a half a car length around a wreck the other day and got a 4x
LOL Davey you gotta update your video upload preset on youtube since it still says that the game you're playing is iRacing(2008) 😜 I hope this video finds a lot of new racers, just like the previous ones of you regarding safe driving and what to be aware of. I've learned all this good stuff by you and it DEFINITELY helped in gaining SR in the first and later on simultaneously IR in the second place!
That's an auto thing. I'll fix. Thanks for the heads up 😁
Sorry Dave, but starting from the back is just way too risky and IMO the best way staying out of trouble is qualifying within the Top 5, because they usually have better skills and I tend to see the carnage in the mirror, not in front and the field thins out better there as well. Did my first online race yesterday, qualified P2, finished P2 even I was a bit faster than the guy in front. Just made him nervous being close and waited for a mistake, but wasn't bad enough at the end to pass him without risk, so he won. Got a huge chunk of SR without taking any risk. Probably doesn't always work like that, but I even had no contact in the past three Forza Motorsport online races despite good fights.
Not everyone can qualify in the top 5, and can you guarantee you do every time? Imagine being bumped back to p10 when you're trying to gain safety rating in a beginner series. Carnage 😁
at 1.77sr with just over a week left this is perfect timing 😁
My problem is I also race in RL, and there is no safety rating. Ive done that since 2015. I have iRaced for 2 months and I find the draw to race SOOOOOO hard to resist 😁
Done my first multi class intermediate race earlier today.. easy for me to gain safety rating … very difficult for me to gain driver rating..
I was in your race and as a casual it was a lonely one. you guys where 2:18 and below, I was 2:19-20 and every one else behind 2:24+. If it wasnt for a mistake on my part meaning I had to come back through the field after pits I'd of had a very boring race lol. Though I did enjoy the immersion of rounding a corner and seeing an LMP2 on fire haha
@@lewisbloom well I’m certainly no speed merchant ..
qualified with a low 16 .. with race fuel in think my fastest race lap was low 17..
the leaders were nearly a second quicker . Consistently.
Really enjoying LMU … love rFactor 2 .. so this is right up my street .
@@unscrecon1 as a casual 2:19-20 is the norm so you're a soeed demon compared to us casual folk lol
If i don't qualify but still get a grid position that isn't on the back row i start from the pits. Irating sometimes takes a hit but more often than not i make it back to my car #/and or grid position.
I did not know safety rating is affected in the practice before qualy. Im always off track testing lines 😂
This video couldn't have come at a more perfect time. After watching your video i got it in a day! Starting at B 3.19 and in 5 races I got promoted to A! After weeks of head banging i can finally say the grind is complete!
A tip for car control. Turn off the autoblip and autolift options for a smooth car driving experience. I gained almost 2 seconds doing that and the car actually stays on the road lol. Frustrating.
I’m struggling with this my self on race I can’t help but get into it even start from the back it’s a killer
I hear 'Jim' of Crew Chief spotting for you. Is CC updated for LMU?
I think there was a beta released today, but havent tried yet
@@christianhojas4787 We can't do without our Jim. Even in Beta form 🙂
What is the overlay at the top of your windshield that is showing the traffic around you?
Dave, how did you get your Crew Cheif to work in LMU????
Probably select rF2 preset
@scottySK I figured it out. Crew chief has a beta update for LMU. You have to delete the old version to get it to work.
The ice skating of a Ferrari GTE at Fuji is so bad I switched to Corvette, and part of me died inside because I ALWAYS prefer Ferrari.
It’s so strange I’m not sure I 100% like it I’m about a week into iracing and the game feels great easily the best sim I have tried. But I find myself letting cars go pass just so I don’t have to battle them, surly that can’t be the point of a racing game.
14:30 @Dave Cam did the studio ever tell you what that code means?
*everyone wrecks* Dave: beautiful
Hi Dave, thank you! Do you know if your SR in Iracing is much slower increasing when you are at the back of the field? (I thought so)
no, you gain less the higher your SR rating is on your license, the closer to 4 you get, the smaller the increase, where you start has no bearing.
Wait, iRacing's practice before a race counts for safety rating? I usually push my limits pretty hard in those sessions and get several off tracks trying to find the true limits of the car and track. I always thought practice did not impact safety rating
I thought it didn’t count until qualifying too…
only the practice session directly before the qualy counts
Yes those 3 mins practice, qual and race all count 👍
After the checkered flag, your safety score is also impacted when some clown deliberately crashes into you, too. Pisses me off when that happens.
x 0.3 in P, 0.5 in Q and 1 in R.
wasn't A Bastard a politician played by Rick Mayall...
scary how often CrewChief called it a "clear left" when the opponent was "clearly left" of you...
That's a setting thing. You can set the distance for "clear" in the CrewChief settings. It applies to all directions, so if you set it to let's say 0.5meters, it will tell you clear when the car besides you is 0.6 meters away.
What software are you running for relatives
Anyone knows what overlays he is using it looks amazing.
Tiny pedal. Dan Suzuki did a video on it on YT.
was in your race earlier i got taken out i was racing craig
7:36 - "The Aston is gonna catch up here..."
*looks at the rear-view mirror*
I’m curious how you know that race practice counts for safety rating in iRacing?
Have you tried reading the sporting code?
Is the radar in the game or is the a separate program.
I believe it's a 3rd party rF2 app
hey dave.. how its possible to use Crew Chief in LMU?
You need to download the beta version from crew chief 👍
And the rookie races should be friendlier.
0:17 Dave , what did you do to her?
Practice sessions before the race do not impact the SR in iracing. Please double check.
The 3 minute session immediately before qualifying does.
Sporting code 3.6.1.1 if YOU want to check 👍
How can I get the same race engenier in LMU?
It's a program called crew chief although this is the beta version which supports LMU 👍
@@davecamyt ty, I will try it
Suspect not applicable to most here as very iRacing focused.
This advise is not as applicable to increase DR in Gran Turismo 7 as you lose DR for every car you lose to and gain for those you beat. So starting at the back makes it harder to increase DR.
YES, drive safety and do passes when on but for Gran Turismo 7 qualify as far up the grid as you can and play you survive the first corner.
Just an FYI TH-cam for some reason unsubscribed me from you channel. I was wondering why it's been awhile since you posted a video and when I looked I was unsubscribed.
Funny that obviously Dave has a lot more experience in sim racing than me but i dont agree. You can definitely gain safety Rating and be competitive
Not usually in a beginner series.
@@davecamyt Suppose I am still in the Mazda's but I honestly thought there would be more incidents in the rookies
Lol jump into GT4 D
@NoChance-oz4dd
When I first got iracing, the rookies was a beautiful experience. Than as soon as I got D, I bought my GT4 and tracks for the running schedule.
Nothing but tap and crash fest. A lot of salty drivers.
@@MRD0889 exactly the experience I'm having at the moment I thought the driver would get better 😂😭
@@NoChance-oz4dd yea for me it's been a shit show, even recorded a few races to show my boys lol. They're big on dollar value, so I showed them the races so they can see what to expect if they decide to go down that road 😂🤣
What if I want to rank down?
Race at night on weekends when most kids are online,in the USA.youll rank down for sure.
What’s the point of all this? You go through all this to increase SR, but it will all be lost when someone punts you.
The only way to sort this out is make people to pay real money to fixing their car if they intend to race again.
Hi DaveCam
Hi 😁
Whats the spotter audio pack you are using?
They have to reomve the IR
not much point signing up for a race if you are going to purposely drive at the back
Depends what you're trying to gain though I suppose
Yeah fuck no those idiots that farm SR out of rookies and D class only to end up ruining races higher up is a joke.
SR naturally increases when you become a better driver
I respect Dave a ton and I love his content, BUT I HATE this kind of behavior. This is so fake. Using this strategy and avoiding racing and race situations just puts below average drivers in the mix with people of higher skills and abilities. Sure raise your raitings, but then you and everyone you race with are gonna have a bad time. What people should be doing is running lots of practice, qualify to the best of their abilities and work your way up and your skill and experience allows.
I raced in this race when I needed to, but because safety was my main priority it was clean. Nothing wrong with that 😁
