When crossfit began, form and technique were a huge deal. Completing the reps correctly was a huge deal. I remember literally being told to do the movement correctly and finish the reps no matter how long it took me. Things changed when anyone and everyone could become a crossfit instructor by taking a test on a computer.

Mobility and flexibility is just as important as muscle mass and strength if not more so

All exercises have skill limitations, skill and technique is one of the most important things worth testing. Ring muscle ups, proper running form, olympic movements, lifting a sandbag from the ground, hand stand pushups. I think one of the things we miss is actually testing people's ability to learn movements. What I mean is if you asked people to compete in shotput if no one had ever done it or knew how to do it, then it would just be power, coordination, and your ability to quickly learn a movement pattern, but if one of them threw shot in high school it is a huge advantage. If someone rowed in college that's a huge advantage, if they did olympic lifting its an advantage, if they got proper coaching on running form it's an advantage, but when you put enough things in those advantages in one even don't mean a lot because the variety is so high.

I think it's less the high skill movements and more the constant man on man butt sex. I had a guy try to get me to do CrossFit, he was telling me all about it for about fifteen minutes. About ten years ago I walked into a restroom at a quick trip and two dudes were banging in the bathroom. After the fifteen minutes of having CrossFit explained to me, seeing two men have sex is now the second gayest thing I've ever seen

The high skill movements are part of what makes me enjoy it. It's things I've never done before, and I've always got something else to work on. People are over training because they are driven to do more and do better. Runners overtrain all the time, because they know if they run more, they will perform better. Ultimately, it is about learning your boundaries, and not making the same mistakes while training.

A lot of the lifts have to be learned because people generally aren’t flexible or healthy.

Completely agree. The idea that a random guy/girl walks into a CF box, and before they can lift, they have to improve mobility to be able to do the highly technical lifts. That's about 6 months of paying money and not getting the benefits of just doing deadlifts and squats and bench press.
If your box has plastic bars for your members to practice, you're delaying their progress. Squats are functional. Deadlifts are functional. But going into a squat and lifting a bar over your head simultaneously is insane. I cannot fathom when a random person would be utilizing that sort of technique.

It isn’t all about looking good. High skill movements train the neurological components of fitness far more than low skill. Coordination, agility, balance, and accuracy are just as important as endurance, stamina, strength, and flexibility. Also, without neurological development, you can’t maximize power and speed.

Doesn’t matter. It doesn’t get trained well because crossfitters do them in a bullshit manner, as fast as possible.

    • @spencergsmith
      @spencergsmith 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

@@Anonymous-jf2gy “It doesn’t get trained well because CrossFitters do them in a bullshit manner, as fast as possible.” Tell me you don’t know enough about CrossFit without telling me… CrossFit’s charter has ALWAYS been “mechanics, consistency, THEN intensity” so no, we don’t always do things “as fast as possible” nor any other “bullshit manner.”
And yes, the kipping pull-up increases power output, which in turn increases fitness. Should we never perform strict pull-ups? Of course not, we do them often, but kipping pull-ups are useful and can be included as part of an effective training program. If you think otherwise, I suggest you watch a video of ANY high-level gymnast performing dynamic movements on bars, rings, vault, or pommel horse, and tell me they’re wasting their time.
Limiting training to ONLY simple movements that don’t take much neurological engagement will obviously limit the fitness you can produce. If that’s what you like, fine, but don’t call it CrossFit and certainly don’t claim it makes you the fittest, most well-rounded athlete.

Pretty sure if I ever did cross-fit I'd be injured in no time.
If you gonna lift heavy and practice skill moves like handstands or muscle ups which are hard on the joints, you should take your time, take more rest than you think you need, and spend a bunch of time strengthening the joints and ligaments required for those exercises.
Why in cross-fit they don't only lift insane weights, but also time that shit and combine it with cardio is beyond me. I imagine gyms who promote that will lost customers fast - Maybe its to keep the cross-fit population low and therefore exclusive?
If all I wanna do is get exhausted yet ripped the same effect could be achieved with running, squats, pull-ups and push-ups.
You do that long enough at high intensity you'll end up vomiting which I understand is the ultimate goal for a cross-fit enthusiast.
This guy's got the right idea.

So it's not crossfit it's your ego & pushing your limits further than what you can take. Not everyone is this obsessed or want to be a bodybuilder or compete. Some people just want to strenthen their body, be active, be flexible. The group setting help motivate lots of people, more than the isolation of the gym. That's why I'm trying cross fit, at the same time i know my limits, i won't push myself to injury & i don't expect major results other than being active, lighter, lose some weight that's it.
Even if someone wants to compete & have major muscle gains, you can do that while being carful & logical in your expectations to not injure yourself. It helps having good coaches that knows what they are doing.

You are supposed to practice the movements . CrossFit is basically a sport , you will not learn movements in a wod. You have to be training for it. If u can not complete a movement safe , then you would scale to still get a great workout and build strength. It sounds like he didn’t not have a good gym and coaching.

Exactly, by his logic sports like basketball should get rid of three pointers and lower the rim so people can play the sport without having to learn proper technique and fundamentals before they can actually start to play

The fact he is talking about people looking so much better shows he isn’t really aligned with CrossFit. Do functional bodybuilding and gpp they have their place alongside and within any good crossfit program. Where I am from there are a million and 1 of these types of gyms but a lot of people get bored with the repetitive nature and lack of skill progression and then end up trying CrossFit

The problem with CrossFit is they do zero advertising. Zero. The affiliates get choked out bc too much negative press has muddied the water.
CrossFit should have chased down NCAA and Olympic Games. That’s where they screwed up. The CF Games is dying, and the NCAA’s need another revenue generating sport. Gymnastics and diving are super sweet sports, but they don’t generate any revenue whatsoever. I believe CF events could draw a crowd, using the football or basketball stadiums.
CFHQ has the wrong staff. Bunch of wokies working there. That’s the problem

Squats, deadlifts, presses and cardio are “bodybuilding”?
lol - funny cuz it could also be powerlifting… or just plain getting in shape depending on sets/reps/weights. But calling those three basics bodybuilding is just dumb
