    I find that putting a couple teaspoons of fine-ground sand or garden dirt into the hinge is perfect for those of us who want to amplify the intensity of the squeaking.

      But whatever you do, do not cook with vegetable oil. It is incredibly bad for us.
      Use olive oil instead.

    axle/wheel bearing grease. It lasts over 100k miles on your wheel bearings. Lightly but thoroughly coat the pin after cleaning.

    A contractors hack is to loosen the screws (slightly, not alot) holding the hinge. After cleaning/lubing of course, Super Lube is the best. Over tightening hinge screws is the #1 cause! You are welcome…

    Hoppes 9 gun oil is my go to. Has a handy needle so no need to remove the pin usually.... A few drops really go a long way.

  • @crystalken
    @crystalken 2 ปีที่แล้ว +12

    I normally use furniture polish. Remember if you can't remove the pin to stick some card behind the hinge before you spray it, else you'll get WD40 splashes on your wall paint 👍🏼

    I used "Go Gear Synthetic All Weather Cycle Oil" which contains blue Lithium. It even suggests as other uses hinges, locks, garage doors etc. Its been over 3 years since I put it on and completely silent still. Recommended if you can get hold of it, not sure they sell it in the USA though, it's a British make.

    haha, you call that squeaky? you can hear my restroom door from outside the appartment thru a closed door!
    and no pins on doors in my country, interior doors you can just lift them off the hinge as they are held in place with gravity.

    Not only WD40 - any oil will make it worse I figured. It somehow degreased it (universal oil). No oil for me ever again on such mechanical parts. Only good old grease. Lesson learned.

      what kind of oil do you use?

    • @annroda2868
      @annroda2868 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@uhi4767 that's what I am wondering. I always have WD-40 in my house because my cleaning lady's use it to shine my stainless steel.
      However, I always used to use lemon oil (Old English or other brands).
      I have always used WD-40 for hinges, and it lasts way more then a short time. Usually last for years.
      However, if lemon oil will do just as well for the stainless steel and door hinges, I would rather use lemon oil.
