Go,ogIe the term I posted above, it's a heIpfuI method. You don't need a leash to stop your dog from jumping up. It's more powerful when your dog CHOOSES to listen to you. Not through force or anything, but because she wants to.
Yes, that and being aware of the energy you are projecting. When walking my boxer if i have a calm expectations of him oft is what determins if hes going to be reactive to seeing another dog or not.
Researching what breed of dog you own plays a major part also. Several breeds need more training and exercise compared to others. They need to have mental exercise too.
Wrong. Good trainers use LIMA (least intrusive, minimally aversive). This principle is understood by any trainer certified by IAABC or CCPDT. Proper behavior modification understands you can use positive or negative forms of reward or punishment. The technique illustrated uses positive punishment, the worst one for training and the one most likely to cause unintended consequences, like fear of strangers or people. Instead you could use a combination of positive reward and negative punishment. Break down what the dog wants--attention and play. When it exhibits undesirable behavior--jumping on you--take away what it wants--your attention (negative punishment). Do that by simply turning away. Once the dog calms down or shows a desired behavior, turn back to the dog and give it attention and play (positive reward). If you train a sit gets him play, he will start running over and sitting excitedly in no time without jumping. No leash required at all.
I definitely have a German Shepherd that loves balls and squeaky balls are even what drives them crazy and he goes mad for so this will be definitely a good lesson for me to practice with him so happy I stumbled upon this there's the right way of doing it and then there's the wrong way of doing it and I want to make sure I condition him properly and with positive outcome thank you so much Cesar for having this!!!
