Everyone is talking about Gibernau V Rossi but can we appreciate how strong Barros was in this race? That Yamaha was nowhere and he dragged it to a podium finish, fighting with two of the strongest riders at the time. I really do think he is one of the best 500cc/MotoGP riders to never win a title.

No, he is far from that. Barros was given great opportunities: he rode for Cagiva, Suzuki, Yamaha and Honda factory teams (Pons was also excellent) and never got to fight for the championship. The likes of Cadalora, Biaggi or Pedrosa, to name a few who didn't make it, are way above him.
