"Perfection" just doesn't matter when it comes to boogie woogie. But the groove was there, the timing was there, and both the boogie and the woogie were there. Excellent job.
I haven't heard anyone in modern time play Pete Johnson and Albert Ammons songs with the power and steady beat that you do. Your piano playing is a true inspiration man and definitely "decent enough to be shared" lol. Thanks for sharing your covers on TH-cam!
Great video sir that was awesome!! I've subbed. I am 19 currently learning this song and I am halfway through but since I can't read sheet music, (Although I've bought it) I've been messing up on some parts and having to go back and forth. I've been learning by watching TH-cam videos by Dr K. I was just wondering what chords are you playing on the left hand, in the turn around at 1:04 and once again at 1:33 - (I assume they are the same) oh and one more thing what are you playing on your right hand after A,G,A,G at 1:49 - 1:56 don't worry about what comes straight after, I have that down already..thanks, plus could you give me your email? I might have some quick questions.
You got that bass line down and that's the most important part! It's not easy and takes a while for your brain to lock in and your left hand not to give out.
Hi @reveirter this performance is just awesome! Congratulations is the best Boogie Woogie Stomp i've seen in my life! But can you please make a tutorial for the ending please? I'm only missing the ending to complete it....
Hi. This is based on the sheet music of Colin Davey (www.colindavey.com/boogiewoogie/products/), but it's only available in paper format. I highly recommend the following page if you want high quality boogie woogie sheet music as pdf files: boogie-online-us.npage.co.uk/
Here is where you can get it. www.google.com/search?q=boogie+woogie+stomp+sheet+music&oq=Boogie+Woogie+Stomp&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.3572j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
How to learn boogie-woogie? Is it good idea to start by traditional classical music piano lessons and then transfer to boogie? Or start boogie from the very beginning?
just 1 more question. when you play the CE, are you sliding your middle finger from the e flat like a grace note? or what fingering are you using? thanks again for the excellent video.
No, I don't slide it. It's a little hard to explain with text, so I recommend you to check out this video: th-cam.com/video/YWxmqohrfIs/w-d-xo.html . That's the same left hand that I'm using in this video, except that he in the end plays EG instead of single G. I see we use different fingering. I use the middle finger where he uses his ring finger.
The links in the description don't seem to be working for me. Is it possible for you to send me a pdf of this music or at least tell me where else I can find it?
Hi there, I know this is late, but you wanna start by getting used to the repeated bass line in the Left hand, without swing. Practice it by adding a few notes to the right hand when you play and when you're confident with that, try the written Right Hand Melody, finally add the swung tempo. Oh and practice slowly!
Thanks. This helps a lot :D I was already doing it like this, but progress was slow. I'm glad to hear I was on the right track at least. Gives me more motivation to continue. :)
No problem! Yeah it takes a while to get used to but practising it everyday for a few weeks/months should nail it! There's a lot of improvisation to these kind of Boogies so learning jazz and blues scales and chordal progressions is always good fun. Good luck :)
Beeing a total beginner ... I can spot some tempo issues BUT this attempt has soul, much more than "perfect" performance, hence is way better anyway. Wish I could play like that!
This doesn't sound half bad. You should give this song a go around on a standard string based wooden piano just to see what it sound like over a digital keyboard.
More than decent indeed. How long did it take you to learn Boogie Stomp good as that ? Did you "start from scratch" or did you already have some piano / jazz / boogie background before ? Honestly, man, it's good enough to enter most any bar with a piano in a corner, and get the whole establishment clap hands and stomp feet. I bet you won't pay a single beer yourself the whole evening.
Thank you! I started pretty much from scratch. Luckily, at the same time as I started, Brendan Kavanagh's boogie woogie channel on TH-cam had just started, so I learned a lot from his first tutorials. After learning the basics I got my hands on some of the classical pieces and gradually learned parts from them.
Nonono. You are getting this wrong : thank YOU !!! You just multiplied my motivation by a huge factor. My (electronic) piano should be delivered tomorrow. I guess I'll give a try to Brendan's tutorials then and see where it leads me. But all in all, it is totally doable without any previous background (you are proof of it), and if I can get to the point you are, I'll already be super happy :) Thanks again.
"Perfection" just doesn't matter when it comes to boogie woogie. But the groove was there, the timing was there, and both the boogie and the woogie were there. Excellent job.
Far from perfect? You must be joking! Thank you very much. It was pleasure listening.
I haven't heard anyone in modern time play Pete Johnson and Albert Ammons songs with the power and steady beat that you do. Your piano playing is a true inspiration man and definitely "decent enough to be shared" lol. Thanks for sharing your covers on TH-cam!

wow thanks brother!
This piece was Ammons's version of Pinetop's Boogie recorded in 1928 by Clarence "Pinetop" Smith.

My goodness!
You got that bass line down and that's the most important part! It's not easy and takes a while for your brain to lock in and your left hand not to give out.
Hey I was just wondering what notes your playing from 1:40-1:42 I can't seem to get that sound
Hi @reveirter this performance is just awesome! Congratulations is the best Boogie Woogie Stomp i've seen in my life! But can you please make a tutorial for the ending please? I'm only missing the ending to complete it....

Absolute Perfection!! I got a long way to go:(
Me too :( At least it's not very long, only four pages and fairly easy to read notes. Just gotta get it up to speed.
Love to have the sheet music to that......? 😉
And great playing, looks like fun
Here is where you can get it. www.google.com/search?q=boogie+woogie+stomp+sheet+music&oq=Boogie+Woogie+Stomp&aqs=chrome.1.69i57j0l5.3572j0j8&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8

Would it be ok if I used this audio as background music for my videos if I link to this video onscreen at the end of the video?
sick
Wonderful !! Me, I am still working on the Minuet :)

Nice.
did you get the sheet music (for Boogie Woogie Stomp) from Colin Davey?
or Piano Sheet Music?
Thanks
I got it from Colin Davey.

Sweet, body u have the midi file to this amazing song :)
Hi, do you have any CDs available for sale?
I'm trying to get into playing the Boogie Woogie, but it's hard to get started. How did you learn this? Cause it sounds amazing.

Just practice each hand separately. It's really not that difficult, the tempo is the hardest part.

Where did you get the sheet music?
😂❤
For how long have you been playing now?
excellent. i don't suppose that you could write out 1 measure of the left hand?
Thanks. C, C, EbA, CE, EG, C, FA, G

A. H. May I ask, how long it took you to get to this kind of level?
At 2:42 the noted are A,D,E and A. Just a tip. But great playing.
were did you learn this song?!
The sheet music is all over the internet. A great recording is by Albert Ammons on "The First Day." (Meade Lux Lewis is also on it.)
Sheet music?
Where do you find the sheet music? I can't find it anywhere 😡
Here: boogie-online-us.hpage.de/
You are like the only person playing the base line properly.
imbaAntares uh.. Nope
