Watching this again after Murray's sad passing. The intro again really gets me, what a lovely way to introdue Jenson. They're both such wonderful people, so happy for all the memories you gave me Murray, I'll never forget you. RIP.
larry brown being a good interviewer is a real skill, and he's really very good at it. I've done loads of interviews and focus groups over the years, and I think I'm pretty good, but I was in awe of this
i always thought that Jenson was one of the greatest ambassadors for the sport of Formula 1, alongside one of the greatest men in Formula 1 Murrray What a great interview
Jenson ambassador(ed) his way into every gravel trap in F1 in his 1st few seasons. he was lucky to be kept in the sport at all at one point. That said he EVENTUALLY found his feet but it took a long time. longer than just about any other driver i can remember ever. He became a good guy in F1 and ye, a good ambassador for the sport there after. but it was not always thus. People either have short memories or are just plain new to F1 and don't know this
people are quick to forget how good Jenson is and what he has achieved, the 2011 Canadian gp sums it all up really. put him in rosbergs Mercedes and I know what will happen
I think the whole 2011 season sums up how good a driver Button is, considering he came 2nd place in the overall standings, beating Webber in the totally dominant Red Bull and Hamilton in the same car. His whole career has been plagued with bad luck and bad team choices, which meant that he never really had much chance of success in his earlier career (despite outperforming in bad cars). I'm sure had he been given decent cars, he would have been one of the most successful F1 drivers.
Jenson is one of the most underrated F1 Drivers on the grid...you don't stay at the top in F1 for 17 full years/Seasons if ya not a top level driver...all JB needs is a more competitive & reliable car & he will be showing us he's full potential once again...I'm just praying that McLaren/Honda give him a better package & that McLaren/Honda also give him a brand new contract & it is fully deserved as he's stayed really loyal to the team in there hard times since 2012
I really hope it's not another DC @ Redbull situation.. When DC stepped down after all the hard work.. Seb stepped in and F1 has been at it's lowest ever since.. At least DC gets credit at Redbull for what he did.. I bet he wished he had 1 more season though.. I think Alonso should step down.. Button is clearly a better driver.. 1 on 1 battles proves it and the way he just drove away from Alonso at Monza shows his class..
thanks so much for sharing this, I smiled all the way through, these are 2 truely exceptional individuals, I've had the pleasure of meeting and talking with them both at length, Jenson at the beginning of 2008 and a year later I Met Murray in Birmingham with my dad Pete, who has since passed away, Jenson & Murray are extremely down to earth and passionate about motorsport but they are fun to be around too, I remember Murray with a tear in his eye at one point talking about the great Ayrton Senna, he is a true fan and such an interesting guy and I'm thrilled his presence is back in the media world of F1 and I love would love to see Jenson lift the world championship crown again as it couldn't go to a more deserving racer, Please keep sharing these moments with Murray Walker, he is Mr Motorsport.
Imagine if Jenson stayed after the year at Brawn and was racing for Mercedes for several years. Could have had more championships in the bag or even if he went to Toro Rosso and then went into the Red Bull when Seb won his 4 titles. Just shows you decision making is everything in Formula One.
The warmest, highest compliment I can think of regarding Murray Walker is that he is to F1 what Vin Scully is to American baseball. He's such a deep font of history, knowledge of the drivers and the intricacies of the motorsport, and down-to-earth warmth. For as long as I have watched F1, I have heard Murray Walker's voice. He helped us through the deaths of so many great drivers, and decried the silliness that accompanies the sport. He is one man I would love to meet sometime over coffee, or tea, or a pint.
If this was from 2016 it's incredible, 92 and Murray's sharpness and depth of knowledge is immense. I wish he had never retired, we lost out on another 10-15 years of brilliance.
It was 2016 indeed. Murray appeared in a 2019 episode of the Beyond the Grid podcast - which I believe to be his final interview - and, at 95, he spoke for over an hour. He certainly sounded a bit more tired there, but remained impressively sharp and articulate for his age.
What a wonderful thing to drop into my YT recommendations given the recent passing of Murray Walker. Two of the most nicest and genuine people in motorsport having a really good chat. Fantastic.
Wonderful interview. Murray Walker was a great Formula 1 commentator and interviewer. Jenson Button is one of my very favorite F1 drivers. I was cheering him on all through the 2009 season when he won his championship.
97 is a great innings while doing a job he loved - I'd take that! I wasn't his biggest fan but he was one of the most enthusiastic & passionate motorsport presenters on the planet. RIP
Father's have a powerful way of shaping us and making us the men we are today. May you forever rest dad...6 years ago. I can only feel for Jenson and Murray when they talk in this way.
Good to see Jenson button and Murray Walker having a questions with each other Jenson Racing f1 after seeing his father John race in rallycross compared to Murray Walker he follows his father graham to race in bikes and then later commentary
Jo Isten, I was born in 2001; the year Murray retired. But by god I fucking loved his commentary, I used to come home from school as a young child and watch the old motorsport channels on Sky; old replays of Michael and Mika's battles. The world is less without him. RIP Murray, no one will come anywhere him in passion and dedication to the sport.
Murray walker is my hero Thanks for the passion all the memories and every great moment I always remember in Motorsport you were their in the passenger seat riding every moment with your incredible knowledge and voice Thankyou
How can you dislike this guy. He could've been a fine double world champion, or even triple world champion, and no one could say it was out of luck. Fine driver, maybe a bit underachiever during the Honda times, should he been in a top team for longer, he would've won a second one.
Very few legitimately believe Button is better than Hamilton, and not many yet believe Hamilton is truly one of the all-time greats yet. So Button certainly isn't one of the all-time greats, but he's a super driver and one of the more important names from his respective era.
Jenson is a bit like Andy Murray in that if he had come along in most other eras he would have been a multiple world champion but he just happened to be a top class driver who was unfortunate to be in an era of all-time greats.
jaryd12345 Eh. I don't believe Jenson or Murray are the very top tier, but a notch below. Most eras have all-time greats in them. I wouldn't expect Murray to be the best in the '80s (late Borg, McEnroe, late Connors, Lendl, followed by Wilander, Becker and Edberg, and considered a brutal era), '90s (Sampras would still easily be the best, but Murray could fight for second against Agassi given how AWOL he was during parts of his career) or the earlier '00s (generation of Safin, Hewitt, Roddick, Federer with late Agassi and Sampras with a hint of Kuerten). I don't think either are that unlucky at all, and they had the talent to "get theirs" during their time. Both have achieved splendidly.
I think many commentators should watch this piece of interview. The style, the elegance, the way he gives time to answer the question.... Questions seem simple, but they are planned to get the most from the guest as a story.... brilliant!
Jenson was very honest, and very talented with that awesome sweeping style. I was probably happier to see him succeed than anyone else. The BAR was monstrously quick at times
Two nice & interesting guys joined in an excellent interview of highest class. MW is by far my favourite commentator ever , and one of the most deservable champions of F1 is JB.
Murray is 92 year old in this interview. Just a second to appreciate how good he looks!
and he still remembers everything
Watching this again after Murray's sad passing.

RIP old friend, you'll be sorely missed.
Indeed, the sound of his voice is forever in my mind, he was a wonderful man
That's exactly what he was a friend wonderful man and commentator and so sharp at an advanced age. Thanks Murray
Arguably the most popular f1 driver in the last 20 years. Everyone likes Button.
Well, not due to polls.
ricciardo and massa are pretty popular too. also alonso has become pretty popular lately.
Sorry. Schumacher and Raikkonen are clearly, by far, the most popular of the last 20 years.
Lewis Hamilton holds that crown.
Apart from Villeneuve, lol
Murray is like your grandad in this asking about your school life , asking questions listening whilst brnging up memories

RIP Mr Walker. A great man who will be sorely missed. F1 will never be the same.
What a lovely intro of Murray
He even got me a bit emotional
Murry once said, without any hint of ego, "No door is closed to me in Formula One".
Such is the man's level of respect and love.
people are quick to forget how good Jenson is and what he has achieved, the 2011 Canadian gp sums it all up really.
put him in rosbergs Mercedes and I know what will happen
I would love to see that
Jenson and Lewis were such a good driver pairing at McLaren
Lewis and Jenson also get on better than Lewis and Nico
only because Lewis and nico are fighting directly for the title
I think the whole 2011 season sums up how good a driver Button is, considering he came 2nd place in the overall standings, beating Webber in the totally dominant Red Bull and Hamilton in the same car. I'm actually really surprised those repulsive Hamilton fanboys haven't ruined this comment.
Brilliant assessment of Fisichella, some drivers really are at their best in difficult midfield/backmarker equipment.
There is no commentator on Earth that will ever do a quarter as good as Murray.

Jonathan Palmer said Murray cried for hours when he found out Senna had died, apparently.

Murray should never leave motorsport. He was what kept those people interested other than the cars. He told us what was happening. #MURRAYMOTORSPORT

The way he opened this interview. Barely one minute in, just smashing me in the feels. Especially since he is now gone.

Jenson Button may not be one of the best Drivers of formula 1 History. But he such a great spoke person in the sport
why do you think he isnt one of the best? he outscored hamilton at mclaren. had button gone to mercedes he would be a 3times world champion now.
