very clear but you didn't mention the depth that the rudder should be in the water ie how to work out the hight of the main shaft above the water.

What are the actual torque settings ? Do you recommend a locktite product on the bolt threat prior to torquing the nuts? Just a few more questions. Would you recommend a UV fabric sealer / coating? Is the gearing a plastic composite?

Thanks for your very perceptive questions! I know Will has responded directly, but I'm sure these answers will be helpful for others as well:
1.There are no torque settings - you simply tighten until good and tight but not too tight. Surprisingly, we’ve never had any issues with this. The castings are pretty robust.
      2. No need for Loctite on the bolts as they all come with nyloc nuts. We put Loctite on the grub screws for the axles ect but you shouldn’t have to touch these.
      3. We’ve yet to hear of a UV fabric sealer that actually does much. I’ve heard of someone painting it but it eventually flakes off and gets messy. You are best to keep a spare onboard.
      4. The worm gear is Delrin on Oilon so the plastics won’t bind on each other. There is no load on the worm gear once the vane is set on the desired course so almost no wear other than UV damage over time.
      Cheers, Sarah

For the drive unit you don't us any grease like lanonil to get the mechanical smooth moveing without friction?

    Not rocket science
