From their 1973 album, "Tower of Power" this was their biggest hit to date, making it to Number 17 on the Billboard Hot 100's. The lyrics cover the heartbreak of a relationship ending with brilliant vocals so soulful and sweet. Their superlative musicianship has the ability to effortless shift from one genre to another. The guitars so lovely and the horns, my oh my, so outstanding. 🎺🎺🎺 Great reaction Harri. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. 👏👏 Cheers from Canada 🇨🇦
Cheers Mary! I always look for your comments and I didn’t see any for a couple of days and I got worried. “Where is my Canadian friend, Mary?” So I was very glad to see your comment today. 🥰🇨🇦I’m not proud of my country right now, so I am sending a flag representing where I would rather be. 😂
@debbiechang5781 You are so sweet Debbie. 🤗 I flew in late Wednesday from the West coast and took a while to readjust. Lol Old age. 🤔🤔 Wish you were my real neighbor. 🥰🥰🇨🇦🇨🇦❤️❤️
1974 they were a"crossover" band 10 or 12 people in the band -everybody liked it -nobody did muted trumpets and solo trumpets -deep baritone saxophones like they did -you wont hear any "cover" to that song they broke the mold
This legendary singing group is still on tour, over 50 year's they should have been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, there are a lot of fans are working and trying to get this band in into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame for next year for 2024! All their Albums Songs are legendary in the music 🎶 🌎 🤩Horn section is legendary 🎶 🎶 🎷🎺
Cynthia - What a soulful masterpiece and excellent submission. I haven't listened to this in way too long...until now. Thank you, Cynthia and Harri....well done!
This is (to quote Harri) “like diamonds in my ears”! I have always loved this song and now, after all those years, it sounds even better. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. 🌺✌️
Lenny Williams was, is and will always be the man. The best frontman they had. I'm seeing them next week with a Philharmonic Orchestra. The song is from 1973. That's funny, I said 73 before I saw you look it up.-lol.
The Providence Civic Center circa 1974. It was the lineup from "Back to Oakland." If you've ever been to the Civic Center, there are isles separating the seating. I also chatted with Greg Adams and asked him how Lenny Pickett hit those really high notes. He said "overtones." It's funny how you remember certain conversations.@@mikecavaretta2621
This is a Tower of Power standard a song they do on every show! A true classic soul gem/ballad. The lead singer here is Lenny Williams whom many fans concider beeing the very best singer they ever had!
As a soloist trumpet player i would always key on the bass guitar and also the baritone sax. This baritone sax truly comes out with it's distinctive sound. There is quite nothing like it! FYI: Leonid & Friends perform a beautiful tribute to this song.
This sounded as good on my AM radio in 1973. It's all most of us had back then. Loved it then and brings back memories of my best times in the early 70s.
Such a banger of a pure soul song. I might be biased since I grew up in the era, but between the great radio hits and album tracks, I do believe the 70's eas the best era for music.
Great song! Great band! If there was a music format equivalent, to the EGOT, let’s say the VECD for fans, I have it for this song. Over the years since 1973 I bought it on Vinyl, Eight track, Cd, and Digital. Somehow I didn’t buy it on cassette.
And "Soul Vaccination" and "Squib Cakes" might be worth a listen, too -- though for vocals, the latter only has a little two-word 'quote' of the title. But Chester Thompson's pedal-bass under his own organ solo is really something to behold. Thanks Cynthia!
The San Francisco Bay Area produced many fine bands, Tower of Power being one of them. I grew up in Marin (North San Francisco Bay Area)in the 60s, 70s, and 80s, and there was no better place or time to do that. Indescribable memories of a time and place that is still being written about.
Nice......Now can I get you to FUNK your audience ears up with some "Get Up to Get Down" by Brass Construction and "Back in Love Again" by LTD (The live versions of both songs)
Want to know where else you've heard these guy's great horn section before? I know you've all probably heard this song a million times since it's release and rise to the top of the charts.....Elton John's "Don't Let The Sun Go Down On Me". Off the 1974 album Caribou, it was recorded at Caribou Ranch studios in CO, owned by James Guercio, another guy you've heard of......the producer of all those great Chicago early hits (also featuring a great horn section!)
Hey bruh, you GOT to check out Tower of Power, "Just Another Day", this might be one of the smoothest songs ever done by ANY group! Check it out you will love it.
I always feared this song being bought by some heinous Big Pharma corporation to play in the background as they pitched some pill for prostate difficulties.
Yes, 1973. I was a 12 year-old girl in Brazil when I heard this song for the first time. Love it!

I graduated high school in 1974. It was a glorious time for music.
1974 they were a"crossover" band 10 or 12 people in the band -everybody liked it -nobody did muted trumpets and solo trumpets -deep baritone saxophones like they did -you wont hear any "cover" to that song they broke the mold
I remember this! Love it. The song was in 1973. So beautiful. Love the singing, and the sound, so much.
These guys are one of the few bands I'm ALWAYS in the mood to hear
The best horn band of the 1970's. From Oakland, CA...
I would say they are second to Blood Sweat and Tears. Maybe I'm biased. I love both bands, though.
I'll NEVER get tired of this soulful masterpiece ❤.
AMEN HARRI!!! This is Classic Music, with Lenny Williams on Lead Vocals and this Smooth Band was sheer Magic!!!
1973. One of my all time favorite bands!

now that Chicago is in Hall of Fame.....TOP should certainly be inducted now
A classic and I love the horn section.
This is one of my favorite songs! The brass section is fantastic! 🎉🎉 😊
LOVE THIS ONE!!! Just a masterpiece. Wow!
Cynthia - What a soulful masterpiece and excellent submission. I haven't listened to this in way too long...until now. Thank you, Cynthia and Harri....well done!
I saw them in concert…they were Fantastic! 😃. Singer is Lenny Williams -early 70s
This is (to quote Harri) “like diamonds in my ears”! I have always loved this song and now, after all those years, it sounds even better. Thanks Harri and Cynthia. 🌺✌️

Not to mention he is a genuinely nice person.
Yes, he is. Way back in the day, I got the chance to chat with him after a show.@@the54thfloor47

Thanks for the great reaction Harri, I just love their music and it is an oldie for sure.
The great Lenny Williams on lead vocal. Classic pick, Cynthia!
@@John_Chu thank you John.
Very nice Cynthia. 1973 graduated high school, remember flared jeans and platform shoes.😂
@@clint6872 Glad you liked it Clint. That’s the year my son was born May 1973.
Hi Cynthia, Great choice! I'll have a little surprise for you soon; keep watching Harri and you'll recognize it what I'm talking about. Stay well!!!
'73 and I just started a new high school. It was a pretty awesome summer for music. This is one of my all time favorites.
Your buddies "Leonid and Friends" did a great cover of this. You should react to that one. It'll be diamonds in your ears!✌️
This is a Tower of Power standard a song they do on every show! A true classic soul gem/ballad. The lead singer here is Lenny Williams whom many fans concider beeing the very best singer they ever had!
I couldn’t hit play fast enough! LOVE this song! Gorgeous little trumpet solo…
So glad you're reacting to more of TOP! Thank you.🎉❤
Love it love it love it!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks Brandon.
My kind of music. Thanks, Cynthia and Harri too.

Greg Adams on the 4 valve Getsen Flugelhorn solo
Great reaction! I owned this album in the early seventies and its still one of my favorites. Another great from them is, You're Still a Young Man.
Oooh I'm loving this Cynthia
As Harri said "Silky Smooth"
Love and Music Always
Thank you, Miss B. ❤
Legendary singer (Lenny Williams) .
Can't Miss with Tower Of Power's inventory .
So soulful music 🎵🎶🎵🎶 beautiful ☮️
This sounded as good on my AM radio in 1973. It's all most of us had back then. Loved it then and brings back memories of my best times in the early 70s.
Fantastic!!! ❤
7:34 Everything has already been said ❤ Just beautifull 🙏😇🥰 Have never heard 🤔😊 Thank you Cynthia 🌻 Great Pick and Thank you Harri great reaction
Thank you Agnete. 💜
Such a banger of a pure soul song. I might be biased since I grew up in the era, but between the great radio hits and album tracks, I do believe the 70's eas the best era for music.
It was the 70's Tower of Power with Kenny Williams
Love them. I still have a T shirt of them from the 70's. When that horn solo starts, I am floating.
Great song! Great band! If there was a music format equivalent, to the EGOT, let’s say the VECD for fans, I have it for this song. Over the years since 1973 I bought it on Vinyl, Eight track, Cd, and Digital. Somehow I didn’t buy it on cassette.
One of my very favorites, great choice.
Such a great band out of San Francisco. Try their two other big hits the incredible "What Is Hip" and the great ballad "You're Still A Young Man".
And "Soul Vaccination" and "Squib Cakes" might be worth a listen, too -- though for vocals, the latter only has a little two-word 'quote' of the title. But Chester Thompson's pedal-bass under his own organ solo is really something to behold. Thanks Cynthia!
The next two of theirs for your listening pleasure are What Is Hip? and Down To the Nightclub. Their style of music was called East Bay Grease.
TOP are so good!
Love your coverage of TOP. My favorite band covered by my favorite reviewer. Warner had great recording quality during that era.

Yes, the remasters are amazing quality!
Yup -- definitely much better quality than the contemporaneous vinyl I still have. Must've *lucked* into a stamping from late in the run . .
Tower of Power Horn Section did a ton of session work, rightfully so.
It was the original soundtrack..Best Band
.saw them in 73❤
I absolutely love this song, thanks
Great review! This song was a mainstay during my Jr High "sock-hop at the gym" years...thanks Harri!
Love this!
Glad I grow up with this music!
That distinct voice of Lennie Williams...smooth a silk...
Exquisite soul thanks bro, with México, saludos :)
The '73 Classic Hit it is.
Hard to believe this cat never listened to TOP. They were and always will be amazing.
TOP! Straight out of Oakland with the funk!

Album number 3 with leaf vocals by the one and only Lenny Williams. Great job by Mr Greg Adams with his 4 valve Getsen Flugelhorn solo. 😊
According to the band director, he😊😊😊 was already recorded, and Lenny Williams was asked to come in and record the vocals
Leonid and Friends does a GREAT cover of this. Try it, I know you'll love it..
Shout out to Jay Spell, the blind piano player who accompanied TOP on this album
Check out You’re Still A Young Man. Be ready for the intro - headphones on and ready to go!
Legendary 🎶 off the hook 🤩
Rick Stevens was the singer on the 1st albums
1973 and 74 were the yrs for all good music
70s ,remastered in the late 90s I think....
❤❤❤
Summer 1973
it was remastered for the album you are showing.

Harri, L.&F. does an Awesome version of this!! In Fact, it may be better!!
l973 Good Sir -- Lenny Williams singing . . So sorry you weren't in your teens, then.
1973, Funk/jazz bands.
Well this track is from a great year, so what can you say? 😁
I always feared this song being bought by some heinous Big Pharma corporation to play in the background as they pitched some pill for prostate difficulties.
😂😂 I love your humour quotient
They're almost as good as 'Leonid & Freinds' cover of the same song !!! :o)
This is the original version!!!
Early 70s
Aren't most great soul songs about heartache? lol.
YOU actually look a bit like Lenny Williams!
Brought to you by the boomer generation.
Lenny Williams has quite a story.
