What makes this card busted imo is that unlike other leylines, having multiples copies of it in your opening hand is not that bad because the effects actually stack. Other leylines are mostly meh because copies on the battlefield after the first are pretty much dead cards in most situations, that was a nice drawback for being able to play them for free on turn 0.
Yup. This, in addition to copying for no additional cost (even leyline of lightning has you pay 1 to deal just 1 damage) Copying a pump spell for free is so far beyond that it's insane. I'd have less of a problem with leyline of resonance if it cost you actual mana to copy the spell.
@@profozpin227 Plus the copying doesn't just copy the pump. As we saw with Witch's Mark, it also gives insane card advantage for red. Play 1, discard 1, draw 2 is normally 'equal' with the upside that you're getting rid of what you don't want on top of the other effect. But play 1, discard 2, draw 4. That's 4 new cards, and two roles. I know in some colors this isn't out of the ordinary. But this is basically monored aggro with a slight green splash. It's supposed to die when it runs out of gas.
True but the real issue is that it multiplies the value of all other parts of the deck, the other 3 leylines are utility cards that enable minor functions that don't win the game outright. Tribal synergy, gy hate and cost modifiers are not even in the same universe as double every spell. The effect of that leyline is essentially 2R worth of value for free for every single spell because that's what is usually costs to duplicate a spell (or have that stapled to a planeswalker)

When I was 10 my local game store had an alpha black lotus for 300$. I asked my father for it for Christmas. His exact words were “I will be dead and buried before I spend 300$ on cardboard”. I love to show my parents the price of that card every couple of years.
imagine playing this format in paper. you collect the cards, sleeve them up, go to a location, interact with other human beings, sit down, shuffle your deck, and get to play 2 turns. Magic is dead.
51:00 You didn't get the proliferate because the Scamp died in combat. Means you couldn't sacrifice it, so the "if you do" part of the trigger prevented the effect.
I definitely feel something needs to happen. Control isn't even a option anymore and most midrange strategies are to slow unless you have all the answers immediately.
@drummingtildeath I need to see your list. I keep trying different cards for b03 and always find something that just feels bad in at least a few matchups
@drummingtildeath I checked out that video. There's some things I like and some I don't. I think it's imperative to have 1 mana removal of some kind. I really do not know who had the idea that one drops get 2 drop stats and a mountain of text and abilities and that one drop pump spells get large buffs, drawing or board value. Remember when a 1/1 haste was a thing, now its a 1/2 prowess haste? Or when +3 was all you got for your pump spell, now it's a +3 manifest if it dies a 2/2? Then leyline, turning Might of the Meek into pay 1 draw two... Been KO'd by a mono red on turn 1.5. Played a tapped land gained a life and lost before un-tapping...
Winning 1 tournament is irrelevant. You can find lone tournaments where Mesa Falcon was in the winning deck. Anyone actually playing Bo3 will tell you they rarely see it. Is way less prevalent than Azorious tempo, Dimir Midrange, and Domain Ramp, etc. Doubt Leyline red is even in the top10.
I thought playing my silly raccoons deck against bats discarding my cards was bad, but at least I could beat those. RDW, auras, and reanimator just got absolutely insane cards this set. I wanna go back to bloomburrow.
Winning one tournament is a far cry from the Bo1 experience of playing it every game. Bo3 you'll see it less than a fifth of the time. Both in paper and on arena.

I dont even know if i should go through the trouble of getting all the rares so i can play some decks that are competitive anymore. I guess for now it is farming the daily wins with the most unfun deck i ever played because i dont have all day to farming the wins with the mediocre control or rabbits aggro where i am missing between 12-20 rares (lands not included).
I honestly don't know what's worse, the fact than mono red kills you on turn 2-3 or the fact that if you're playing literally any different deck you'll immediately lose come turn 4 to a valgavoth
I used to hate mono-red with a passion. But having tried the new leyline/inside out combo, I have to admit...it's actually pretty fulfilling to win on turn 2 in std.
In just about every other format, when a deck becomes so strong and so prevalent that you either play that deck or you need to devote a big portion of your deck to combat it, there are bans. This is Affinity all over again.
The issue with power creep is that sometimes you have to find out that the power has crept too far all at once very very quickly. The fact multiple formats are having controversial and emergency bans all within a few months certainly is concerning
Man oh man. Monored is really ruining peoples time. I dont even play standard but I see how egregious that deck is. The leyline probably needs to go or something. That card seems like the primary enabler for the speed and monored is still pretty good without it lol
Eh, it was already bad. It may not have killed you turn 3 before, but being at like 3-4 life against a deck full of haste creatures might as well have been lethal. Leyline making turn 2 kills possible is just an exacerbation of the issues that were already there.
It's a combination of leyline and turn inside out. I could somewhat see the mistake if they were from two different sets (i.e. one designed without considering the next one was coming out) but they are literally in the same set.
Monored might be the worst, kill you on Turn 2 ... but every deck in standard now is some insane slam the board with huge pumping creatures, kill you on Turn 3-4, or some unstoppable combo, like lose half your life just for attacking but then also lose the other half because of course you do..??? Or mill your entire deck in one turn BS..
Exaclty. Not only are we dealing with the BUSTED aggro decks that win on turn 2-3, but if you get a game going past turn 3, you are dealing with as you said unbeatable instawin combos, reanimate cards like atraxa or valgavoth that are instawins themselves, or you deal with losing to counterspell + sunfall + dopplegang spam. Its miserable.
Yeah standard is just... RDW kills you fast, reanimator just putting miserable cards on the field, counters scaling their creatures to +40/+40 w/ trample, and control decks wiping the board until they can win with a single fish
On the match where you didn't get to Proliferate with the Cacapohony Scamp, you can only sacrifice a creature that's alive. It died from combat, even if it did damage the opponent.
Imagine if there was ever a meta deck that was actually fun 😂 Unfortunately, fun is interactive games where both players decisions determine the winner. Meta frowns upon this as your opponent being able to interact, is a problem. You don’t want your opponent to be able to interact with you because then you might lose, so the most optimal decks cannot be interacted with particularly well. The end result is that we get the decks that we do in Arena where the opening draw, top-decking, $$$$, going first etc. are far more likely to determine the winner. You barely even have to pay attention. Mythic is a quantity of time invested in play rather than skill.
Jim Davis said this meta is the best its ever been. In years. It has SO MANY different decks that are "meta". Such amazing concoctions as Gruul Aggro, Boros Aggro, Jeskai Aggro, Mono Red Aggro, Rakdos Aggro, Jund... You guessed it. AGGRO. Unfortunately, I'm with you on this one CGB. The meta is awful, Bo1 dominated by Aggro, Bo3 dominated by aggro too... Played all day today in bo3, solid 6-7 hours. According to the match tracker, 78% of it was against aggro. And I play Anoint with Affliction 4x in the main deck.
I already said this card was such a pain in BO1 that it should be banned. I could never have thought it would be good enough in BO3 to win an event. Just wandering how those who said it was actually a bad inconscistent deck will argue their position now.
The sell sword version was inconsistent though, I played the RG w/ burn build in tabletop cause it was better, now w/ leyline, RG verge and no slickshot it got better and cheaper.

Think of their tbought process for.the Meathook ban. And now think of their thought process when they add make cards like this. Two completely different worlds.
51:06 You only get the proliferate if you sacrifice. In your case Scamp died from combat damage, not sacrifice.
Top-notch content. This is arguably the most watchable magic has ever been.
50:52 Cacophony scamp received lethal damage and died before you could sacrifice it
51:00 You didn't get the proliferate because the Scamp died in combat. Means you couldn't sacrifice it, so the "if you do" part of the trigger prevented the effect.
Everyone knew Leyline is busted as soon as card was spoiled ,i said they need to preban it before release ... Its broken as hell
Hearing CovertGoBLUE say "oh great, another blue deck" definitely solidifies his new villain arch.
I definitely feel something needs to happen. Control isn't even a option anymore and most midrange strategies are to slow unless you have all the answers immediately.
What's great is when I play to counter this and matchmake only against control.
I won ten in a row on ladder with azorius control this week. Currently around 14-2.
@drummingtildeath I need to see your list. I keep trying different cards for b03 and always find something that just feels bad in at least a few matchups
@@cobblertcg it's Sloth's Azorius control from a few days ago, except I cut a couple of the impending mythic creatures and added a couple of smite
@drummingtildeath I checked out that video. There's some things I like and some I don't. I think it's imperative to have 1 mana removal of some kind. The only problem is if you slant way too hard for aggro, you have a harder time against the other grind matchups. Times like this really make me miss march of otherworldly light 😢
Skill issue
Usually watching Magic videos make me want to play the game more but for some reason this gave me the opposite of that.
Uh-oh what will all the people who claim it's only a bo1 problem gonna say now?
Just play bo5 :')
@@its_trias Real MTG-Gamers play Bo7!
@@arokan327 next it's gonna be Bo25 like in Counter Strike
awkward silence
Winning 1 tournament is irrelevant. You can find lone tournaments where Mesa Falcon was in the winning deck. Anyone actually playing Bo3 will tell you they rarely see it. Is way less prevalent than Azorious tempo, Dimir Midrange, and Domain Ramp, etc. Doubt Leyline red is even in the top10.
I never thought I’d see the day that covert would go red mono red he joined the Darkside
I want to go back to simpler times when orzhov bats and simic frogs could have a nice friendly game against each other
I thought playing my silly raccoons deck against bats discarding my cards was bad, but at least I could beat those.
RDW, auras, and reanimator just got absolutely insane cards this set. I wanna go back to bloomburrow.
The war of the spark block was the most fun I have ever had playing standard aside from back when it was announced as type 2 in 97
51:12 You didn't proliferate because you didn't sacrifice the Scamp. It traded with the 2/2.
I'm riding CGB's villain arc all the way
Winning one tournament is a far cry from the Bo1 experience of playing it every game. Bo3 you'll see it less than a fifth of the time. Both in paper and on arena.
Ngl this meta kinda sucks as an aggro main bc if your not on mono red you get dunked on by the anti mono red decks harder than leyline does
You know a format is broken when it's either THE deck or anti-THE deck, and nothing else has a chance.
@@deerseed9503 One of the listed reasons they issue bans. This won't last long.
Game 2 was outrageous!!! I saw the win literal second you did with the double strike!!
No cell sword? No problem!!
Thanks, CGB now everyone is mono red in best of 3 as well.
Picnic ruiner, my beloved.
There's a branch of communism, "accelerationism", that states that capitalism will eventually tear itself apart by its contradictions and this process should quicken, so we can enjoy communism a little longer and the suffering under capitalism ends sooner.
Looks like CGB agrees with this tactic! - He'll just play mono-red, promoting the deck until 90% of games contain a mono-red deck and WotC HAS to act and ban some key cards.
Chapeau, Comrade Go Blue!
I didn’t know you could play Magic in Black Ops 3
When i cant finish watching a CGB video i always leave it running on mute in the background, cause im ALWAYS staying till the end
I think it would be entertaining to see a showdown of the various red decks from past standards. Which standard’s mono-red deck wins?
It's like CGB is possessed in this vid. He doesn't want to win but his body is winning for him haha
> year 2025 - aggro can now win with 1 mana on turn 1
> year 2026 - aggro can now win with no lands
> year 2035 - aggro can now win by having the right avatar
> year 2042 - aggro can now win by just saying gg while shuffling deck
Excellent, time to build a deck around it now or wait for the leyline ban or auto scoop to it everytime.
I just talked about this in BO3 it’s even better because your opponent gets 21 chances to draw it instead of 7 (assuming it goes to game 3) the card is just busted doesn’t matter in BO1 or BO3
covert go red is really enjoying his new decks!
I'm conflicted about putting a like on this video. It's there for cgb, not for Mono-Red which will always be the enemy....
The last time i played mtg was around kamigawa and i liked it a lot next to other tcgs at that time. I started with arena about a month ago to witness this format.
“JuSt PlAy BeSt Of ThReE tHo!”
No one serious about magic plays bo1. It's for little kids bro. This guy proved it by making a bo3 into them playing bo1.. What a joke.
@@cyclonebee1939 the joke is that the deck wins best of three tourneys too
@@drocka36 yet doesn't show it. Cause the ones I saw that are doing well use a good about of green and don't use the ley
And here I thought my reanimator deck was nuts. Red is out of control
I remember when magic games lasted longer than two turns.
Well, you've just about convinced me to give up playing Monored: The Aggroing...
Mono red went from the best deck in the format to being even better with a turn 2 kill unlocked.
It's a combination of leyline and turn inside out. I could somewhat see the mistake if they were from two different sets (i.e. one designed without considering the next one was coming out) but they are literally in the same set.
Just like Richard Garfield intended! Peak MTG.
I’m glad you finally admit that best of one isn’t real magic
Damn i hate that ive barely ran into it in Bo3 but i bet it will run rampant now
So glad to see him not play a toxic blue deck.
Overt Stop Red, really enjoying the content.
I think if I were a kid right now seeing the state of Standard, I wouldn't even start playing the game
15:37 It’s so fucked up that mono-red gets to play Ancestral Recall now
We'll all huff the ban copium with you CGB
@@WitnessedOne my big question is why is standard faster than modern? They used to do bans to keep modern from being a turn 4 format.
@@atk9989 Probably because modern has better answers to these threats.
Yeah standard is just... RDW kills you fast, reanimator just putting miserable cards on the field, counters scaling their creatures to +40/+40 w/ trample, and control decks wiping the board until they can win with a single fish
I guess this makes all the pre-leyline mono red players technically right in that Bloomburrow mono red wasn't that bad.
CGB on his way to finding the best mono red deck to hate lol
On the match where you didn't get to Proliferate with the Cacapohony Scamp, you can only sacrifice a creature that's alive. It died from combat, even if it did damage the opponent.
Ah that makes sense
You could play Rakdos for Deep Cavern Bat and Ashnod's Intervention
Along with Not Dead
Imagine if there was ever a meta deck that was actually fun 😂
Unfortunately, fun is interactive games where both players decisions determine the winner.
Jim Davis is right.
Jim Davis was paid to say so. 😂
Lol Jim Davis is a shill
Yeah he’s a toxic person
Yes this is exactly what wizards want. They said they have people test it so no way they didn't know this would be the outcome.
I like standard content *and* the collab videos :)
The confidence to take a 1 land hand is absurd
50:58 You didn't sacrifice it, so no proliferate. The death effect is detached from the sac/proliferate option.
Watched the pioneer RCQ today. Pioneer seems great right now, maybe jump into explorer?
I already said this card was such a pain in BO1 that it should be banned.
I could never have thought it would be good enough in BO3 to win an event.
Just wandering how those who said it was actually a bad inconscistent deck will argue their position now.
The sell sword version was inconsistent though, I played the RG w/ burn build in tabletop cause it was better, now w/ leyline, RG verge and no slickshot it got better and cheaper.
@@estelaguarda5423 Most of the thing I've red stated that leyline make the deck inconscistent and bad. It seems they were wrong. That's all i'm saying.
@@estelaguarda5423 Yeah honestly, the sellsword part of it was the inconsistent part. Sellsword sits in your hand and does nothing until you can win with it. Witch's mark and protection give you more consistency, and also double up from leylines as a benefit. Witch's mark doubling is a huge card advantage for a mono red deck.
It's incredible to watch a man's will to live disappear in real time. Just remember the good times when mullstone was a legitimate wincon CGB, it will all be allright
Truthfully, I thought that Screaming nemesis was going to be a red staple. With all the life gain and all. Haven't seen it played once.
"Wizards did it, they let Hearthstone be the best game. Yu-Gi-Oh! players are laughing at us"
Me who plays all three - Laughs at myself with excellence
Would like to see the statistics on the Standard-only enjoyers
thanks for the decklist
Modern magic doesn't even feel like a card game anymore
as both hearthstone and magic player I can attest this game is out of control in the most hearthstone of ways these days
Silencing everyone going "But red isn't that broken cause bo3!!!!"
I keep coming back to CGB because it's fun to watch him progressively lose his mind.
15:30 bro actually just ripped ancestral recall off the top in red in standard
Love coming back to magic after a hiatus basically starting with commander precons getting in the scene and everything is burning around me AND I'm still annoyed by the mana system.
Still, the brewer in me is like oooh look at these weird cards I've never seen, what can I do with them
A hand of four ducks would be pretty bad...there are no obvious ducks in MTG so far, but if you want to argue that something in MTG is a duck, I guess Yanling's Harbinger is probably your best bet? Four of those would probably not be a great hand. Closest relatives are The Goosemother and Swans of Bryn Argoll.
I made the assumption that a duck would have the bird subtype and include blue in its color identity, so if there's a non-blue duck I could have missed it.
It was about time you played a deck that requires skill.
