Piper was one of the greats.
Amazing talent, giant heart, and an actual good human being.
I've always said that Matt's Doink was a cross between Roddy Piper and Krusty The Clown, which was always bad ass.
Naw it was Krusty the Clown and Betelgeuse to me.
I like these old clips of Matt Borne. Good story teller.
How haunting were his words when he said, "excess in this life will take you over, it'll kill you".

Wow!! Roddy gave Matt a notebook that was filled with ideas and pointers for cutting promos ! Forget about the chick-flick movie that’s already been out, THIS story is worthy of being a movie and worthy of being named THE NOTEBOOK!! As for Piper being recognized as wrestling’s greatest on the mic, this notebook is damn near biblical! Lol. Rest In Peace fellas

The evil clown gimmick, was amazing....the biggest mistake they made, was turning him face. Doink was one of those characters, that should've never turned, because it took so much away from the gimmick

@@FreddieBlaze Well, Matt Borne was a heel the entire time he was Doink. He was fired and when he was replaced, the character Doink was made face.

Nice interview. I like how you asked him to elaborate on his problems with Adonis. I see so many shoot interviewers where interviewers miss opportunities to ask good follow up questions. A wrestler will bring something interesting up, but only scratch the surface and then move on to a new topic. Good interviewers will do like you did here.

Rip Matt Borne
To reinforce what Borne says here, I saw a match between him and David Sammartino on TH-cam. Both second generation wrestlers, Borne had slightly more experience but was clearly head and shoulders better in the ring than Sammartino. Borne carried the match and did his best to cover for Sammartino's shortcomings, and then did the job for Sammartino. He was clearly willing to job and was a good sport about still doing his best in the ring.

I saw Roddy Piper wrestle Matt Borne in Williamson, WV- would have been ~1982, I guess (headline on the card was Buzz Sawyer vs. Tommy Rich- lots of “color” in that one!) Anyway- I was a HUGE fan of Piper on the mic and had seen him hit Jack Brisco with a roll of dimes in Mid-Atlantic, haha. I couldn’t wait. Piper beat Borne in

I always liked Matt Bourne and I think the doing the clown character was a rib from Vince to see if Matt could get it over or if he would quit. But Matt is a great talker and could work. He got the character but it was incredible how he did it.
Matt seems genuine in this interview. The other one I saw he seemed a little pettier and holding a grudge.
here is an interview trick.... the word "um" from someone who is a native speaker is "usually" a telltale that they are making stuff up. If he were French, or Japanese, and said "um", that could be overlooked... watch these wresterls, and not so much as what theya re saying, but HOW...
A clown and a drag queen get into a fight. Sounds like the intro to a joke. Eighties were crazy man.

Adonis was one of Piper's best friends ever. Not Matt Bourne. Piper was definitely trying to stir shit up.

Borne and Piper were about the same size, did drugs and their voices were a bit similar. I can definitely see how they would have made good friends. I could see them as brothers.
I know Matt was tough obviously. But Savage would have beat his ass. Adrian was tough AF as well.
