The age of consent in many countries throughout Asia and Southeast Asia would surprise most people from the West. Japan, Korea, and even the Philippines before they made updated changes were absolutely wild regarding age of consent. I don't know how they went so long without doing anything about it, but here we are.

Haeppy's comments about diversity in modeling felt insensitive and distasteful. I'm sure he's still a kind person but I couldn't continue watching afterwards.

My stances and the abrasive way I present them are meant to stimulate conversation, especially for viewers to give their counter arguments and opinions in the comments. The stance is valid and it's what a lot of people are silently thinking and not willing to say outloud specifically because the social backlash is so severe nowadays. I belong to one of those parties by the way (the ethnic minorities) that diversity is supposed to be catering to.
When it comes to the fashion industry, I don't feel inadequate or like I can't see myself in the clothes just because the models used are mostly white, black, and hispanic... those people are all on another plane of beauty as well so it's not like even if my ethnicity was properly represented it would relate to me either.
I also don't want to see regular people modelling clothes that I'd like to purchase. I want super attractive, top 0.1% beautiful people doing it because they make the clothes look fantastic and show them off as they are ideally meant to be seen by the designer.
Ultimately, I know it's all marketing. Do restaurants shoot the dishes as they actually appear? No. They shoot them artificially set up to look as good as possible so it makes you want to go try their food. When you get the food, as long as the portions are right and it tastes amazing, do you care that it doesn't look exactly like the pictures or videos? No. I sure hope not.
So the question is, why does the fashion and beauty industry need to cater to the insecurities of those who do not affect their earnings? The point of that conversation and my stance is: if your monetary contributions to those companies were significant enough that they deemed true diversity in representation was worth the cost, they would be doing it en masse.
Certain companies have tried and succeeded. Those companies continue with their brand of diversity. It's like asking luxury companies to drop their prices so us normal and poor people can purchase their goods.
Well, no. 2% of Gucci's clientelle make up 40% of their revenue in an article I read recently. It is MUCH easier to cater to 2% of people than it is to figure out the myriad variables that exist in 98% of the customers that make up 60% of the revenue even though 60% is a far greater amount. So instead, they raise their prices. South Korea is their largest single source of revenue in Asia. So what do they do? They started recruiting South Korean celebrity ambassadors. There was no artificial push towards diversity for diversity's sake. You spend enough money as a demographic, the companies will gladly include your demographic in its marketing campaigns to get at your dollars.
Likewise, if companies are willing to sacrifice their minority customers (fat people, ethnic minorities) because they do not contribute to profits in a meaningful or significant way that offsets the costs of catering to them, why should they have to do that just because those people are insecure?
Another question I have would be: just because certain opinions make you uncomfortable and challenge your world view, why would that lead to you being unable to continue watching? I mean, it's totally up to you and that's cool! But seems a little drastic of a reaction. It's kind of the problem with today's society. Regardless of what someone's other opinions may be or how valuable their other stances are, people latch on to one thing they are offended by and immediately shut down the discourse and invalidate the rest of what is said.
Piper and I disagree a lot during the entire podcast, that's the point of having a podcast otherwise it just becomes an echo chamber. Viewers get to see their stance being represented and defended or countered, and then get to make their own decisions about them after hearing both sides.
Piper's response to me in that subject is very insightful, but since you stopped watching, you weren't able to watch that. You also end up missing the rest of the podcast and what other topics were discussed that could've either been entertaining to you or enlightening.
Don't get me wrong! No one OWES me their view or their time. I appreciate you giving the podcast a watch for as long as you did :D
