This man faced the toughest and strongest from the 50’s 60’s and early 70’s while under-sized mostly, terrific speed and technique, eternally under-rated, a great boxer !
Unfortunately he was around when Sonny Liston was at his Brutish best. Plus I have a vague memory of him fighting a Swedish guy, Johansen. Floyd was/is a gentleman
Very good. Had no idea Floyd visited Ireland. People were so much more well spoken and articulate back in those days. They were thoughtful and considerate in everything they said. Sad when you compare to today's generation
I never knew he visited Buncrana. I remember it was a very warm and friendly place. Strangers driving by in their cars would wave hello and things like that.
What he liked most about Ireland was the people!..... Telling. Pity our government doesn't value our people and treats them as if they are interchangeable economic units without an important culture to maintain.
Floyd Patterson was one of the most skilled boxers that ever lived! It's a shame, he came into an era where humans in general were getting a lot bigger so naturally heavyweights were getting a lot bigger, and he was of a slightly earlier era where heavyweights were similar size to modern day middleweights. But, he was undisputedly one of the most skilled boxers of all time. And he was a true gent!
@@RogerYeahmonAmateur he was middleweight. He fought as a light heavyweight as a pro, just natural weight range was around 175. The move to heavyweight wasn't as big a leap back then. Still, so impressive that he won and held the title two times. Second youngest ever heavyweight champ after Tyson.
@@RogerYeahmon Back when Floyd fought, most Heavyweights averaged around 6'0-6'2. And usually weighed 180-200lbs. Liston, Ali, Norton and Foreman were all considered part of this new era of bigger Heavyweights. The gradual increase in heavyweight sizes to today where Heavyweights are typically 6'3 and above 230lbs started way back then.
@@RogerYeahmon Just before Floyd's era, the dominant heavyweight champ was Marciano who was 5'10 and only 180lbs. Floyd wasn't considered a small for the time.
I wonder how many people think Ireland has marvellous people since the floodgates have opened,it did use to be a lovely place but it’s not the same as it used to be.
It’s funny and coincidental that Floyd Patterson mentioned about his wife, mother coming from County Offaly, believe it or not Barack Obama‘s great great great grandfather came from County Offaly?
A well spoken man and clearly very intelligent
A gentleman and a fine boxer.

People were more polite and humble in those days 😌
More articulate in general as well.

The greatest P4P boxer of all time🎉❤
I remember he was the Late Late Show circa 89 or 90.
Peak Tyson was similar to him in style, but had the power of Foreman or Liston to go alongside it.
Same trainer. Cus D'Amato.
Liston and foreman were way stronger than Mike but get what u mean
A gentleman
Brilliant video ❤
Happy days
I see the old diving board ,long gone now .
Is that Eamon Homles interviewing him? .True gentleman and great boxer.
No 😅, but they look similar.
No it’s not eamon Holmes’s and eamon Holmes’s was never a great boxer 😂😂😂😂
The reporter is Alan Green
There are pictures up of him in a hotel in Belleek.

HE called Ali - Cassius Clay! lol
Great boxer Floyd. Ali called him the RABBIT. HI THINK .PEEK A BOO STYLE. INGEMAR JOHANSSON BEAT FLOYD. FOR THE TITLE . AND FLOYD WON THE RETURN...
Floyd also won their third and final fight.
Invented the gazelle punch
Floyd was a great fighter and he was beating Ali in that rematch
The original peak a boo D'mato fighter
Sounds like benicio del toro....
notice how small he is.. no heavyweight.
