My guess to why these sets are so affordable is because they have to license it from Epic Games. Epic Games notouriously likes to invest a lot of money in order to keep growing and growing (think the weekly free games on the Epic Games Store). So they might see this as a way to reach an even broader audience for Fortnite.
Fortnite is massive, LEGO is definitely trying to pull in some of that market. When this line continues with more sets in the future I think it'll be slightly less affordable but still a good deal
I wonder if Fortnite gave them a break on licensing fees considering they have a devoted Lego game mode. This deal is much more than just IP license. Brilliant move, no one wants to pay $175 for a banana, even if it has intestines.

Its actually incredible. A bus drops you on an island with 100 other people. You have to find loot quickly and survive, all the while marxists steal your time on this earth with their dumb colportage and effectivelly steal your testosterone and gray matter, propelling you into dementia while they introduce communism to everyone in reality. I'd put myself somewhere between "doesn't care about" and "actively dislikes" Fortnite, and I have to admit that these sets are mindblowingly good even without the amazing price. Compare to the recent Harry Potter or Star Wars releases and these are just much more thoughtful and unique, with very little to dislike or gripe about. I wonder if these are meant to be almost a loss leader for Lego, getting new fans into the hobby etc., but even if they are, the amount of effort put into these is incredible. 10/10 lineup.

This lineup reminds me how it feels to look at some new Lego sets and say “yeah, that’s a good deal! I’d pay full price for most of those!” I feel like so many Lego sets have felt overpriced and don’t seem that they should command the price they ask for what they offer. The battle bus is such a good deal for 2024 prices, you have to wonder how much Disney is charging in license fees, cause a star wars set of a similar size with 9 minifigs of that detail is unheard of

There was a potent confusion in the "What? How is this possible?!" When mentioning the Llama's price. I felt the exact same way when i saw it for the first time
So bad news for anyone hoping to do what's suggested at 6:53 - the left train door hasn't been made in yellow in the modern version (43967), and in the older variant (4181), it turned up in yellow in exactly ONE set, set 7735 Freight Train from 1985. Used copies of this part with wear/scratches average £5 each, and don't even bother looking at new cost (£17/each). You need three of them, and since the set only contained one left yellow door, it's not viable to track down three copies of the set either.
I don’t play Fortnite, but I’m glad LEGO put aside door in the middle, which is an emergency door for the side of the bus which is a cool feature on the bus
Peely Bone is the kind of set I've wanted for YEARS! I have always been obsessed with the half skeleton / half normal concept. Fortnite is not my thing so it doesn't completely resonate with me, but I think I'm still gonna have to pick it up since I don't know if/when they will ever do something like that again.
Good question. That might be tricky since the non-skeleton side seems to be what’s holding the skeleton together. But with some extra white pieces to complete the skeleton, it might be possible. A full banana Peely seems more doable though.
I have no strong opinions on Fortnite either positive or negative, but it looks like Lego went really hard with these builds, and I'm even tempted to get that peely bone figure.
yeah Fortnite is very fun actually and they work with many brands and figures such as singers, TH-camrs, tv shows, and they partnered with lego last year and made a whole game mode plus that peely character is a character you can play as the mascot of the game

Was big into Fortnite when I was 14 and the Battle Royale mode was just getting popular, I'm delighted at the Battle Bus especially and am amazed at the minifig selection, detail and price. Definitely getting that one!

Never played the game nor do I take interest in the whole "battle royale" styled games, but the Battle Bus seems like a really cool set and one I'd like to get. I just always liked the design since I first saw it when Fortnite came out, it's nonsensical but in a fun and charming way with it being used like a balloon basket with some cool greebly detailing that I'm a sucker for.

These prices are not only LEGO, this is Epic probably forfeiting any revenue from these sets. The deal between LEGO and Epic is a partnership, not LEGO licensing some IP. Epic can use LEGO IP for the game, LEGO can use Fortnite IP for sets. Is an incredible Win-Win where everyone gains! If only Disney did a similar partnership to be able to produce LEGO Movies in exchange for forfeiting their share of LEGO sets revenue, we would all gain with that.

It would be a challenge! Not impossible but the Banana half of the body supports the skeleton. Remove that and you’d have to come up with brand new ways of supporting the whole thing.
Idk how achievable this is but I would love to see a set with editable build pieces. I am a creative nerd and I would love to make a model of my favorite highground retakes. They could make a set with 1 of each build in each material and then people could just buy as many as they want. Edits could be made by just snapping off parts of the pieces in premade fashions. A wall for example could have options of a window edit, or peanut butter edit which if you just remove the other half is a bottom corner edit. Any Fortnite creative nerds in the comments that can back me up on this???

I am not a Fortnite fan in the slightest, so naturally I’ve not been interested in this line of sets. But it’s nice to see the affordability and overall quality of the line, even if I won’t be buying anything from it myself.
The only drawback or criticism I have with this range is so far only the Battle Bus set is a playset, and even that's being loose with it, and it's the only set that has figures. Everything else, while awesome looking and great value, are really mainly display sets which is rather odd for a theme revolving Fortnite.
