@@Just_niaxx In a 2017 SDCC interview, Sugar stated that when she started writing "Love Like You," she thought of it as about an alien who is loved by a human but doesn't themselves have the capacity to love. However, after people had frequently thanked Sugar for creating Steven Universe, she felt both confused and inspired by their gratitude, and she instead thought of "Love Like You" as about the people who love her and her difficulty expressing love to them in return due to her insecurity. Now that you think about it, rose being pink diamond is a good thing because she isn't displayed as a Ultimately perfect person, It also opens more plot points and "Single Pale Rose" actually makes me more excited about more episodes. I like Rose's character more now! 🌸🌹

Rose is one of the best cartoon moms ever and she hasn't even been in a same scene as Steven. She loves him so much and still continues to love him and watch over him in spirit. She gave up her own life just to be apart of him and so he could exist, that really shows love. In fact Greg is a great father too. He isn't an idiot, he cares about his son, he's a great role model, and even though the love of his life is gone and had to give up all his dreams, he's still happy because he can spend time with his favorite person in the world: Steven. There both great parents.....

Please enjoy "Rose's Farewell (Love Like You)" - a mini-medley cover of the Steven Universe ending theme (and more) by Luke Thomas and myself! This is my interpretation of a goodbye sung from Rose Quartz's perspective using the show's lyrics, hence some of the adapted tenses.
We were very much inspired by Aivi & Surasshu + Rebecca Sugar's excellent melodies and Susan Egan's portrayal of Rose's character, so I hope we've done them justice! Thank you for listening. :)

It was night. The breeze came in the temple's windows, making Rose's hair dance with it. It was tonight. She could feel it was the last breeze she was going to feel as herself. The rest of the Gems were in a mission and she was alone there.

Rose's voice were in perfect harmony with the beach, the night, the mod. All she could think were the friends she was lefting behind. Pearl, Amethyst, Garnet... She though of Greg, the human she had loved with all her beeing. But... She wasnt sad. Because they were going to gain something better, better than her. They were going to be with Steven, and she knew he was going to love then as much she had done.

+Lion The Mood We don't know enough to say that. What we do know is that Rose was very immature before and during the Rebellion, and what we can deduce from her actions and dialogue is that she sincerely thought she was doing what was best for everyone and likely didn't think things through.
I mean, teenagers often don't have much forethought either, but it would be ignorant to call _them_ evil or deliberately selfish right off the bat. We know some actions, but not definite motivations: we don't know enough yet to decide morality, and it's against the very themes of Steven Universe to paint everything with white and black strokes.
Through flashbacks, we have seen Rose mature and eventually conclude that, ironically, she wasn't good enough, wasn't able enough, to grow into the person the Earth needed. That's likely why Steven exists: not because Rose was escaping her actions, although I'm sure that was a contributing factor, but because I don't think Rose thought she was good enough for the Earth, and Greg innocuously made her realize the flaws and weaknesses she still had as a perso. It's problematic but sympathetic: Rose, not knowing Homeworld would return, put her hopes in Steven, in the fact that his humanity might help him overcome the limitations she felt she couldn't.
I see her more as a tragic hero, so far: one felled by her own flaws, despite her intentions.
@@AlashiaTuol one of the best facts i'd ever encounter. Rose thought what she did was best for the Earth. I mean, her knowledge of the unknown world (Earth) is limited. Especially it was her first colonization. She had been saw herself as 'not good enough' as a diamond. "Her status means nothing to them". If we were in her shoes, we would make the same mistake as she did. I guess that's why she choose to use Rose Quartz to create the rebellion. If she create the rebellion as a diamond, it might be worse case scenario but I can't pinpoint it out too. It's my assumption. Because Rose/Pink might be locked in the tower again and one of the diamonds take over the Earth. Again, It's my assumption tho. But overall, I think Rose/Pink may blame herself for the fake shattering causing the corruption since she never imagined this would happen. "wasn't good enough". great choice of word Alashia. I think it's mostly drawn to that message but it depends on viewers sees it. Thank you.

There is actually a theory going around saying that Pink Diamond is voiced by Rebecca Sugar and this song is Pink Diamond singing to Rose before she gets shattered! Some lines do make sense, like when Sugar sings "I always thought I might be bad". She (PD) sees that Rose loves the Eartha and PD sees that it is (Earth) beautiful and wants to loves the Earth too and thinks that she is the bad guy for colonizing the Earth.And after the song ends we get a mysterious music end cut and this could be after PD is 'supposedly shattered' and she stops singing and every turns south! XD also, the line "Love like you" can also fit in because PD want to love earth like rose!

I've come to believing that the original "Love Like You" song is not really about any character, but by Rebecca Sugar to her brother, Steven Sugar, who the show's protagonist Steven was based on. The gems are Rebecca's representation of the different ways she's acted and felt towards him. As someone who has grown up separated from her younger siblings at several portions of her life, I think I feel a resonance between the way it feels and the feelings expressed in this song.
Perhaps she's expressing how proud of him she is, and wants to live up to how he looks up to her.

The show will end where we find out Rose Quartz shape shifted into steven's form for a joke and to hide from annoying Pearl along with the publicity.
This gives off such a bittersweet feeling, it's so happy but at the same time you know she's saying goodbye. It's makes me think of someone who's dying soon but is ready to accept it. Especially when she started "now they'll be the crystal gems". I really hope we see some kind of flashback of Rose singing something similar to this because I love the idea.
I have always thought that Rose first considered humans as 'talking , intelligent animals' that's why she found Greg 'adorable, amusing' and he's 'fun to play along with' . This song really expresses what I thought Rose felt as she soon learned that humans are something more with Greg's relationship to her, and as adrisuarus have put it, 'But I think I learned how to love like you'

I'd just like to point out that while "Love like you" fits Rose very well, especially when used like this, it's not actually part of the show like the other songs.
Rebecca came up with the song sometime during or around the time Steven Universe was being developed and wished to use it (who could blame her) but it has no canonical ties to the show in its current form.
The show (like pretty much every show) went through many forms and styles before becoming what it did, so maybe the song could have a connection to a scrapped idea.

Well, it sorta fits.
I mean, she learned how to love when she met Greg. She got to learn what's it like to be in a relationship and what's it like to love, to the point of giving her life to Stephen.
Well since nightmare hospital, the lyrics change into nothing like you that's actually continued lyrics of the song. I think it it's connected to someone, most likely Rose Quartz as we get closer into her past. The song might pop up canon and whole on the show.

I like to imagine that this was Rose's song to Pearl before she left. Rose knew she had been ignoring Pearl's longing for a monogamous love for thousands of years. But its not like Pearl's fierce, loyal and sometimes selfish love went unnoticed and unappreciated. Rose did love her but she had her own nature. Then she met Greg and for once she understood the meaning of Pearl's love because now she felt the same about a human. She knew she had messed up in her life but by making Steven into a bridge he wouldn't only be the bond between humans and gems. He'd be her promise and all of her love poured out into one tiny fragile human. Each of the gems represent a different form that love can take. Steven who is already overflowing with unconditional love that was left to him by his mother has to learn how to express that boundless love even to people who love differently than him. Rose learned to love like Pearl. Thats why Steven can love so unreservedly and trust so deeply. Like mother like son. :)
I'm not gonna lie, I personally believe that love like you is Lapis singing to Steven, but DANG NABBIT THE FEELS YOU BROUGHT IN THE VERSION WHYYYYYYYYYY.
This version is beautiful, and though I still think of Love Like You as a Lapis singing to Steven song, I simply adore this version just as much as the original.

Rose was the best leader for the Crystal Gems, but then she needed to give up her physical form to give birth to Steven. Maybe Greg taught Rose how to make music, so she made all of the lyrics. The Gems heard her singing this and loved it. When Steven was born, the lyrics were passed down to him. Whenever they hear him singing, they will continue to miss Rose but still appreciate making Steven. Now she's gone, so they need to train Steven with becoming their leader. When Rose sang the Crystal Gem portion, she knows that Steven will not be a simple bystander or assistant, she knows he will become part of the team as a leader and a Quartz warrior.
When everyone else is defeated in war, he would stand up for them. Just imagine, Pearl is stabbed and trying not to poof. Amethyst's gem is cracked slightly. Garnet is split up and cornered. Connie is badly injured, trying to fend back. (If they join) Jasper is outnumbered in war, Lapis is hiding in fear, and Peridot is the only one poofed. Steven's gem glows and Rose appeared behind him, both of them with their shields. Everyone reunites and after they won, Rose would sing this whole song then go back into Steven's gem.
