    I think during the eclipse Griffith was reminded of the people who have fought and died for him, he was confronted by the guilt he supressed of helping them find their demise
    Everytime Griffith realises that his soldiers are people and not tools he breaks down, like when a little kid died in battle he sold his body to better equip his soldiers so they would have a greater chance of surviving
    So to become Famto he basically threw away his humanity

      Good observation. Check out my other video about Griffith. I covered some of these topics you spoke on. Especially the young boy.

    A thing to note is Griffiths own disposition toward his underlings is his undoing. As Guts would have felt no need to prove himself as a man to him. If he hadn't voiced his position that he was essentially a trained dog to him. And his arrogance keeps him pushing the only person capable of stopping him to reach that goal. Because his pride could not stand being beaten in anything. Their lives parallel on every level and divide only in areas of disposition. Both most likely abused. Stuck into wars at young ages. One used that abuse as a weapon to attack and bend others with. The other simply sought out enough power to no longer be victimized. Where the other sought out power to be the one who would get to choose what was right. There tends to be an extreme amount of fear in the one. With far less in the other, of these two ways of thinking. Fear will make you bend to others. Because you aren't willing to die on any hill of principle. And funny enough the pride does not extend enough to cover their fear. And the shame they feel tends to smother any sense of pride they could ever have in themselves, as an actual being. Beyond that of their status and social power. People like Griffith, no matter what they may accomplish in the world. Are cowards drenched in fear and shame. Guts had too much self respect, and had no fear of death that he would sell himself for anything other than what he already wanted to do. People like Griffith are drawn to people like Guts. But they hate them, and envy them as well. He is, whatever he is. Not burdened by the fear and cowardice of Griffith.
    It is essentially the righteous kings mindset Vs the evil kings mindset. Or a brave mindset Vs a cowards mindset. One justifies their actions and actualizes their entire world from their victimhood. And other relates to other for their benefit. While the other understands it as common affection and relates to others for everyones benefit. Or at the very least not to the detriment of others.
    It's a pretty simple warning. Be careful who you follow. Because some mens dreams aren't dreams, they're nightmares. And you aren't anything but a lamb to be slaughtered in pursuit of those dreams. You might not be smart enough to see it. But when good people leave. That's your last chance to ask those questions.

    TLDR: Griffith is basically Zuko if he never had uncle iroh lol.
    VERY good video. I need to reread Berserk just so I can analyze griffith more. Dude was a fucking WEIRDO. We never got to see what HE really thought. We got to see guts' inner dialogue all the time. By himself. In his own thoughts. We know who guts is. But griffith? Nahhh. The only time we ever get some inner dialogue from griffith is when 5 demon lords are trying to convince him to be one of them. And this is after a year (or was it 2?) Of being tortured in the worst ways imaginable in a dark ass dungeon. Never have we had an even keeled view of this man.
    You'd probably say we saw the real him talking to the princess. I disagree. Think about it. He's talking to the PRINCESS. First of all, he didn't even want her for real. It was a political move. Secondly, it's the PRINCESS. OF COURSE he's gonna say egotistical ass shit. He HAD to flex for the hoes in that moment. Anything to say "Honestly, I'm the hottest nigga out here." We never hear him say anything like that before or after that moment. Unless, im forgetting something, he was flexin for coochie, I'm tellin you lol.
    If you don't believe me, look at when he sold booty to a king just for military funding. You're telling me that the same dude who was just selling ass yesterday is the same dude who's too high and mighty to have equals the next day??? Nahhh bruh. He says/does whatever he gotta do in the moment to get what he THINKS he wants.
    Which brings me to my last point. He THINKS he wants to be the king. He BELIEVES he needs to have a kingdom. He SAYS he wants these things. But does he really though? Guts used to think he was supposed to wander until he died because he thought he was a pointless life form. Then he ended up thinking he had to defend griffith's dream. But finally he asked himself, hold on... "why do I do what I do? And what do I REALLY WANT to do?" So he left the band. He probably would've just ended up joining the band again if given enough time to think. Or maybe not. But he wanted to truly know in his heart first what he really wanted. His ego never got in the way, so he never had a problem questioning things. He was never afraid of giving everything up to restart for a more fulfilling outcome. Griffith on the other hand...
    When have we EVER seen griffith question his own thoughts or actions? Or done something that truly made him happy? Besides playing around the showers with guts? Never. He only moves off of shoulds and should nots. A king SHOULD do this. A king SHOULDNT do that. That's all he does. You could replace "king" with anything. "Alpha". "Real man". "Badass". Never just "Griffith". Dudes an actor. He's playing a role. His whole life he played a role. If he stopped to think for just a second, it would've crushed the ego he built up over so many years. He was so damn competent he actually almost did it too! Remember when you were a kid and said you wanted to be a rockstar? You didnt actually know that or have the skill to achieve that. You just thought it was a cool idea, but it died right there. But imagine if you did have the skill. So you just chased this idea you had as a child, but never questioned as an adult. Look at successful childhood actors and entertainers. Prime example of what im saying. He was supposed to stop a couple times. when he first lost a child soldier. Or when that weird ass old lady told him to take the egg of the king. He was SUPPOSED to stop after he got tortured. That was his natural destiny as a human. Like when Malcolm x went to prison and reformed. That's what would've happened had it not been for the God Hand's unnatural intervention. A human isnt even supposed to have that as a choice. In our real world, griffith wouldve been forced to either be a better person or kill himself. But he always did have a choice. And he chose his ego. Underneath all that ego, WHO IS THE REAL GRIFFITH?

      Very true and accurate, thanks a lot, that is not a popular opinion at all. But Griffith actually did reevaluate his dream as a piece of junk while being in the torture chamber. He saw it finally as a play that lasted too long, he realized that he definitely wanted much more to have a secure relationship (and I don't mean a romantic one). He had time for introspection, became even more obsessed with Guts, felt betrayed again after being rescued and finally had a psychic breakdown that was Eclipse. At that point he wanted so much to stop his emotional suffering that he reverted BACK to being an inhuman mask with severed emotions instead of a living person. He already stated his dream was a piece of shit, but in comparison to his experience of being defenseless and abandoned, well, that illusion was not so bad.
      His dream is clearly a defense mechanism. One of the scariest scenes for me is so called "Griffith's dream and Eclipse" when he hears how Casca asks Guts to leave following Griffith's fake philosophy of "friendship" and he is so horrified, he cannot say anything, cannot move, he initially starts to hallucinate again about a shining knight and a castle and a child who is calling him to play. That is completely heartbreaking, I was shocked when I saw it first time. He is trying to escape unimaginable pain resurrecting his fake and dead dream. I don't know why he was so obsessed in the beginning about this castle cause his childhood is not shown in details - but we can definitely see why he is even more obsessed in the end. The saddest thing here that in the middle he was learning to be a human, but it was too painful to bear.

    Griffith trauma wasn’t helped by the fact that he spent an entire year in the gulag

  • @mightytaco123
    @mightytaco123 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    What I’ve gone through and my trauma I kinda agree with Griffith I see a deep loneliness in him. Griffith had no one but tools he didn’t see anyone as equals. He saw Everyone else get to experience love with someone else and happiness with being content where they were in life everyone except Griffith. So when Griffith had the chance to experience his own dream and happiness he sacrificed others to achieve because everyone else already got to experience the happiness he never could achieve.
    I think I’ve become the same way. I see others being happy while I rot away in loneliness. Honestly if I were in a position to sacrifice all the happy people in my life for my own happiness I would because they’ve already lived their lives and their dreams when I have never gotten the chance. I know it’s selfish and I don’t care.
