    Very beautiful and healthy roses. You have a few roses I've never heard of before that I would love to have.

      Thanks! Some of my roses come from a local hybridizer here in BC Canada, so they are not very popular in worldwide

    I can see you love your roses....they are absolutely beautiful! I love them too. Thank you for sharing. If you have a choice of Artic Blue or Violet's Pride, which would you prefer?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your kind words! Well, that’s the tough pick, since it is pretty much close each other. All I can say they are almost the same level. But if I am under the pressure to choose, then I pick Violet’s Pride, but you can’t go wrong with both of them. That’s the reason why I have both!

    Love your garden my friend. I so wish my earth angel does as well as yours. I have some nice successful flowers on it now but will see. Good to hear your summer romance is repeating well for you this is something I struggle to establish online. This year mine appears to be better than last year. :) thanks for the show :)

      Thanks JJ, I guess your climate and my climate is almost identical, I am in Pacific North West of Canada, we have mild winter with a lot of rains just like in Uk, so I am assuming if my roses thrive, so yours do either. FYI both my Earth Angel and Summer Romance did not do well in their first year, but they’re gradually better and better from the second year. Hope both your EA and SR will be thriving soon!

    Your rose is blooming so beautiful 🌹🌹🌹I can't wait to see mine blooming like that. How often you fertilize them and what kind of fertilizer you used,?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks! Roses are pretty fast growers, I am quite sure you will enjoy their blooms even in the first year, regarding fertilizing, I always have the main one in early Spring when I prune my roses, and after the first flush I will use liquid fertilizer when dead heading and when the roses enter to hot season, I water a lot almost daily (now I have a drip system, so I save a lot of my labor on that), and will fertilize weekly or bi-weekly with very light dose of soluble fertilizer until September. Hope that helps!

    Love your roses and peonies! Were you at the APS convention in NY at the beginning of the month?

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! No I wasn’t there at APS convention, but I wish I could be there, looks like very fun and awesome event. Definitely will consider to come in the future if I can manage my schedule. Instead of going to APS, we were in Adelman field, the field was excellent at that time!

    • @lizbest86
      @lizbest86 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Adelman’s is the BEST! LOVE their peonies! Only negative is when you get that box you KNOW you’re going to be digging for a while, roots are so big they require much larger holes than norm…Hope you get to join us for a convention soon! Next year is scheduled for Minneapolis MN and the following year will be in Wisconsin!
      I just started collecting roses in the last couple of years, very interested to know you’re in a wet zone 8 there in Canada. I’m also in a wet zone 8 in Alabama. We have long, hot summers though so not a great thing with the milder but relatively short winters.

      Another question, I see that your roses are all potted along the side wall in this video. Do you have problems with drainage using traditional pots? The few pots I’ve tried so far make lakes in some of our rain! Do you have a preferred mix or brand of potting medium to use to deal with the wet conditions? Mine are in either grow bags, air pots or the ground right now but it’d be wonderful to put them in large, beautiful pots instead.

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@lizbest86 yeah, I love Adelman roots too, but totally agree with you that they are so huge for digging big holes. And no, I don’t have any problem with the draining so far, but before planting or using the potting mixed soil, I always test for its draining because I know my main issue in my climate is long wet winter, and we also have a ton of rain in Spring and Fall, an another solution I use to improve my drainage is having the layer of broken clay or pottery at the bottom of pot/container, so for a long term when the soil in your containers has been gradually compacted, it avoids to block the draining holes. Regarding potting mixed soil, I usually mix it by myself by using 2 parts of compost/top dressing soil and 1 part of perlite, 1 part of peat moss/coconut coir, I also add one cup of worm casting and bone meal in there and mix evenly. Sometimes I use Miracles moisture control potting mix and add more perlite, I have good results for this mix too!

    Your garden is amazing! May I ask what kind of fertilizer are you using please

    • @smallbackyardfun
      @smallbackyardfun  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you! I use compost for top dressing and chicken pallet 5-3-1 for fertilizing at the beginning of the season when I prune my roses, after the first flush I keep fertilizing with soluble fertilizer via the drip system weekly or biweekly. If you want how I fertilize roses please refer as below:
