Digimon Adventure: Last Evolution Kizuna hit me hard in a way I didn't expect, and I simply had to explain my thoughts to you. Don't worry, there are NO SPOILERS in this video! This is not a formal review with a score at the end but rather a first impressions where I unpack my feelings towards the 20th anniversary film.

If I remember correctly, the main people who worked on this movie, is the main guys who worked on Adventure, Tamers and Frontier. After watching the movie, I get a feel for all three of the series in this movie. And considering Tamers, Frontier and Adventure are my top three favorite seasons, that's awesome.
I had a hard time getting into Frontier, but I was getting older and moving away from Digimon already before that. I think it was that and the change in not having partners that turned me off of it. Tamers I look back on fondly, but didn't care for at the start. Looking back it deserved a lot more respect than I gave it.

I really liked aspects of Tri personally. However it was flawed some parts were too slow others felt too fast and rushed. Plot points with Tapirmon or Dark Gennai felt like there existed to be thrown away. So I am excited to hear this. I finally got around to watching Tri and Final Evolution is ordered and set to be here by Saturday. Do you have any suggestions on how to buy Adventure, Adventure 02, and Tamers on DVD or BluRay? I really want to share Digimon with my kids some day and show them why it was so special the same way my dad shared Star Wars with me.
@@Sirg17x you can try amazon or ebay but digimon adventure 01, 02 and tamers were recently brought back on hulu or crunchyroll i think

There's something I wanted to point out from Last Kizuna that I found amazing
Without spoiling, Last Kizuna actually took a plot element from the english dub of the Digimon movie
where someone actually tried to make a digimon and that digimon ended up becoming the antagonist.
which was the plot element the dub tried to use to tie the Our War Games movie and Touchdown Hurricane movie.
but imo they not only took it, they BUILT UP from it and made it work
Personally, I wasn't a massive fan of Kizuna. There were some amazing points in it, but due to its short run time it felt like they were trying to squeeze all the fan service stuff in without allowing too much story development for each part. In spite of this, as this was likely a 'final' movie it was still very much the Tai and Matt show again. Some characters of the original DD we barely saw which was a real shame (but then again, they wouldn't have had the time for them) - which is why I liked Tri better, despite it's flaws. I also did not enjoy the new digivolution forms. It'd be better if they biomerged at least to create this form, but it was kind of a weak link as to how these new forms came about. And then that ending just hit me so hard. There's some peace in knowing the 02 ending is still canon, but I was broken for ages after that. If your adult audience is still into your anime, don't tell them to 'grow up' lol.
@Gatomon Sophie literally same. I thought they were going to and I was so bummed. The bond forms even look very humanistic. Wasted opportunity!
The overall plot of the story is almost a carbon copy of what we've seen in previous iterations of the Digimon movies. I'd try not over-analyze the story or the themes but curious to see what you come out with. I think the most salient message is one of simply coming to terms with growing up and being able to be okay with change and things coming to an end. Something akin to "while one chapter ends, it's the beginning of another chapter". I do think they somewhat left the door open for the digimon to possibly reunite with their partners again but slim chance of that imo at least in this adaptation/universe.
Just finished watching this movie and goddamn I've never cried so much watching anything ever... Goddamn this movie was absolutely amazing, I'm so moved specially because I have also just finished university, this hit like a truck!

I am looking forward to watching this. However the crying part not so much. I teared up a bit when all of the original Digi Destined showed up on part 1 of Tri. So I have a feeling what awaits me here is going to hit hard.
It's a great movie even for not hardcore digimon fans (although they will enjoy it more of course)
Honestly this movie is just summed up as "if Tri was good".

@@thedigiknow thanks a lot!! Also I forgot to say in my first comment but I really enjoyed your review of this movie. I've seen some other reviews and they just seemed harsher on the film than I personally was because I guess they didn't like the ending and how they felt it seemed as though the 02 ending was changed or altered
