  • I launched this channel with a tour of my DIY wedge pop-up truck camper shell. But at that point, I didn't have much completed inside of the truck camper. After working this winter/early spring, I now have a much more functional interior. For anyone curious about how the interior build came together, this updated full truck camper tour is for you!
    The following are products I used in my DIY build or bought to make the interior of my truck camper more functional. *I am an affiliate for Amazon, Bouge RV, and Jackery. It's a good weight, about as light as any commercial wedge camper. Good Job

    Simple and practical. Add a cabinet where the trash can is, as tall and wide as possible.

      Yes, that would be a great area to add a little more storage.

    What an incredible build! It must be nice to be able to customize everything to your liking from the ground up. Keep up the great work!

      Thank you! It has been a lot of fun to have everything customized. And I am really enjoying having some drawers and cabinets this trip.

    Good use of the limited space.

      Thank you! It is really small. I like my Tacoma and driving a smaller vehicle, but sometimes I do wish I had gone for a 6 foot bed or a full-size truck just to have a little more space in the back.

    Very well organized and good use of limited space. Comfort on the road. $5K is great in this age of $15k for a basic pop up shell.
    Bedroom window may need a bug screen. 🦟🤔

    • @WanderwithKate
      @WanderwithKate  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thank you! If I used the camper in my home state of Minnesota, a bug screen is going to be absolutely essential.
      Right now, I do have a screen on the back wall window and did end up making a screen for the window that passes into the cab. The two side windows are fixed though. In Alaska, I had the windows shut most of the time because it rained so much. And so far in Utah, bugs haven't been bad a at all, so I've been lucky.

    I like the wedge opening and the simple folding walls you put in there, is it all insulated?

    • @WanderwithKate
      @WanderwithKate  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you! It's kind of insulated. I only have plywood and 1/4 inch foam in the folding walls. If I re-rebuilt the walls, I might make them a little thicker to allow for more insulation. The roof has 1 inch thick foam for insulation, so it is warmer than sleeping in a tent. But I still prefer to have my backpacking sleeping bag for warmth if it is below freezing. I haven't slept in it in hot conditions yet.

    Hello! Thank you for the inspiration. In one of your videos you said you link to Amazon? Do you have info on that? I’m just getting started! Thanks!

      Yes, the Amazon links that apply to each video are in the video descriptions. Good luck with your build!

    Hi, great videos! I’ve built a cap style popup camper too, and am ready to put it onto the truck. At the moment I’m planning to use C-clamps, but what did you use to secure it to the truck bed?

  • @tuckerandi
    @tuckerandi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    As I was watching I was thinking how great everything was laid out but I keep being drawn to the bed and thinking there's no way she can lay on that bed she looks to be a tall woman and there's not much height either.....and then you pulled out the slide and the light came one in my head , you lay up and down the truck not across ..... sometimes I wonder how I feed myself lol.
    So now that I see how the bed works I can say EVERYTHING was well planned out 😅.

    • @WanderwithKate
      @WanderwithKate  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Haha, yes, there is no way I would comfortably fit side to side. It's only 5 feet across and I'm 5'8". And with the current wedge height, I don't think either my hips or shoulders would fit well without the bed platform pulled out. It's still pretty cozy as is :)

    • @tuckerandi
      @tuckerandi 5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@WanderwithKate lol, yeah you would have to be 4 ' 6" and 75 lbs to go across comfortably. 😆. It's was definitely a dooh moment for me lol.

    With the popup down can you still sit up right in the cabin.
    I'll bevusing alot of your build as inspiration for mine and need to be able to use it with the top.up or down

    • @WanderwithKate
      @WanderwithKate  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I can sit upright if I put a lower folding chair in the camper (one will fit in between the benches and cabinets), but I can't sit on the benches I made with the top down. It's a little too low for comfort. If you want to use it with the top down, you might want a little bit taller sides (depending on how tall you are - I'm 5'8").

    Very nice! What do you do for heat?

    • @WanderwithKate
      @WanderwithKate  4 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I don't really have a heating solution yet. So I have a low-wattage space heater that I can run for short periods of time while I am sitting in the camper or preparing a meal, etc. And when I sleep, I have lots of blankets.

    Hi there! So it's going to be interesting to see how your build will take your upcoming travels. I hope it holds up great for you because I'm thinking of doing the same thing.. I'll be following your channel for updates and content! Safe travels! 😀

    • @WanderwithKate

      So far everything is doing well, although I do need to adjust the drawer stops a bit. They have been rattling open on the bumpy dirt roads. Between the Dempster Highway and Utah, the poor camper is getting a lot of stress testing over bumpy roads, haha.
