    Hi guys it's good to see you out and about again. Thanks for the videos. I am somewhat concerned about your tow set up, a 30' trailer and a half ton truck. You should for sure go through a flying J or Pilot with a scale. It only costs a few bucks and what you should be looking for is GVWR (Gross Vehicle Weight Rating)on both truck and trailer. And most important GVCW (Gross Vehicle Combined Weight) it is this that you may be over the limits. Just drive safe and keep your distance. Have fun.

    • @LukeandAlysha
      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey thanks for the thoughts Brian. We do want to take some time to try the CAT scale out but have never had the courage and time to navigate to and use one yet. Prior to heading out we did check with people about how the stats lined up and did some research and it all seemed good. Hope to check the scale someday though. Cheers!🙂🍁

    When backing in you can have Alysha on the speaker phone with you, helping guide you. You can communicate better than with just hand signals alone.

    Would be neat to see a google map snapshot of where you are along the way. You guys did awesome on your first time back in. No way I could have done that well. WTG!! OMG the snow ....ick!!!

      Thanks Tracee! And very true Google maps would help convey the area we are in a little better to see the drive and part of the country we are besides just names. Also thanks on the trailer, it did work out pretty well backing in in the end 😄🍁

    Put (1) hand on the bottom middle of the steering wheel. Then turn like normal (R) = Right (L) = Left

    Make sure your batteries ( in your trailer)are turned on for your water pump to work.

    My husband and I have walkie-talkies. He backs in and I stand in the back and guide him...goes really quickly (I always make sure he can see me in the sideview mirrors). Giving directions, I say driver's side or passenger side instead of left or right...easier for him to understand which way he needs to turn.

  • @LifestylewithSarah
    @LifestylewithSarah 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Goood job backing up! It gets easier the more you do! We did tons of practice and just takes practice. One trick we learned was put your hand on the bottom of the steering wheel then you turn towards the way you want the trailer to go.. just till you can wrap your head around it. That worked for us.
    You guys are doing great as it’s very different then a class C!! Excited to see all your adventures! We hope to go down south sometime in a few years! Chloe looks like she travels well

      Busy days here, but loving it! It is a change from class c living but certainly not difficult to the point where not worth switching. A new skill to learn and a new way to travel seems like a win win 😁🍁

    Here is the basics for navigation in the US. First choice in interstates. The second choice is US Highways. Then state routs. Then county roads. The last option is surface streets.

    We have the same WDH...love it! Don't have to remove trunnion bars when backing up. Make sure to grease the hitch (there are grease ports for that) often...and not the bars (that would be bad). We tow a camper with total length of 26 feet and GVWR of 6995 lbs, but we don't tow fully loaded.

    • @LukeandAlysha
      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I don't have any real experience with hitches, but so far am loving this hitch. Seems to keep sway way down and being built in sway control like you mentioned with not having to adjust the bars is super handy. Saw one a little cheaper that you had to ma ually adjust but with my luck and inexperience I'd either over or under tighten it for the situation and also didn't want to have to deal with it before backing in to sites etc. Definitely the way to go!🙂🍁

    Hi Luke best advice I can give you from a truck driver is when backing up take your time .when in doubt, get out and check. you are doing fine, good call on not turning on a small road . I am sure also that the truck driver was using google maps like you. an RV GPS would .you set it for the length and height of your trailer. this way it does not take you to a tight spot or low bridge. on your sun visor just mark the height of your trailer, it helps when you are not sure before going under a bridge. safe travels with you and the family.

    • @LukeandAlysha
      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and the tips! May consider an official GPS when we ever start heading to areas with multiple bridges and older areas but at least right now the trailer isn't too tall especially compared to semis and delivery vehicles that take our routes. Someday though!🙂🍁

    You might try this. Put one hand on bottom center of steering wheel. Move your hand in the direction you want the trailer to go. Oversteering is normal at first. Watch the tail swing! Best wishes!

    • @LukeandAlysha
      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      True I've heard of this trick but have been mainly just working on learning the opposites like to send it driver side turn passenger side. Also very concerned always with tail swing haha. Once watched a video where a fifth wheel's tail hit the gas pumps and took their wall out. So always vigilant!😁🍁

    Welcome to the US. Enjoy your time exploring the western part of the country, it is gorgeous! For sheer grandeur I recommend the Grand Canyon - over 1mile deep, as wide as the eye can see and over 180 degrees from your left to right. Years ago, I went rafting down it for 7 days and highly recommended that. For wildlife, Yellowstone is fantastic. Mountains, forest, and some plains areas, full of bison, bears, elk, wolves. Check out Lamar Valley, where bison graze across it’s 20mile(?) width. Safe travels and love your channel!

    An amazing video! Really loved it. Not bad for a first time parking. You know you're just gonna get better as time passes. Curious on the water situation though. Also, not sure if you have it or not, but having a rear camera on the trailer might be helpful. Did I say I love these videos?
    Good luck!

      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks happy to hear you're enjoying them!! It didn't come with a back up camera just the wiring for the option to add one which I may do down the road. Loved it on our Class C just to be able to see you aren't backing over anything and how far back to go, also would help with seeing the angle probably. For now relying on Alysha's support works though!😄🍁

    Good idea to follow the truckers. Those guys are amazing. Well most of them are. Did you have to loosen or take off the sway bar when backing in? Chloe looks like a pretty good traveler. Stay safe guys. Cheers

    • @LukeandAlysha
      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey there Frank! Yeah they've got the road figured out so when in doubt a safe bet. Great to follow during bad road conditions too in a pinch. The sway bar set up with bought actually has a built in tension system that adjusts depending on the bend so I just have to set the arms in and hook it up. We looked at slightly cheaper ones where I would have had to get out and loosen or remove it, and also manually think and choose the right tension but this seemed like the right pick. Cheers!🙂🍁

    Safe travels - looking forward to following the adventure! Nice job on the x-chalks - those work wonders for reducing rocking in the trailer when walking around etc. Great job backing in! I was definitely worried going from a 21ft trailer to a 30ft trailer (Nash 29S) - but once we got the hang of it, backing in becomes like riding a bike. As others mentioned, using your spouse as a spotter with radios/phones is HUGE. Also, working out language like "drivers side or passenger side" vs left or right solves a lot of confusion over the radio as you may not know what right or left means (but driver or passenger is always easy to visualize). Keep up the great content!

    • @LukeandAlysha
      @LukeandAlysha  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you and thanks for the tips! Never tried without the X chalks but they just seem like such a solid buy that it only made sense to buy them and do it right. I also heard bigger trailers can be easier in some regards to back up due to less jerky motions from over correcting on small trailers but never really experienced this first hand. Loving our rig though and happy to hear you are enjoying the size upgrade too. Cheers!😄🍁

      Thanks Simon right now it's probably loosely 10 days out with the last tour video bumping some stuff back too til we catch it up. It was warm up there even then though like maybe 15 Celsius I think the snow was just more of the high elevation and then thick tree coverage blocking the sun. That has been the only real snow we have seen near the highway. Hope you guys have safe travels🙂🍁

      Hey Olivia, good to be back! Those definitely were part of the novelties of the motorhome life. Definitely loving the trailer life so far though. It doesn't take much effort to get out of the truck and hop back to the trailer on a travel day though and honestly not having the cab there is kind of nice. Just loving being able to have a separate home and vehicle, it's so much more practical. We'll have to do a video and chat about it sometime. Thanks for watchin!🙂🍁

    Google Maps has lost its mind. I get the same kind of directions from Google now, and have to check the map closely to make sure it makes sense. Here's a tip; you can load one map on Google and another on Apple or other app that's compatible with your truck. Then switch back and forth on the truck screen. That might not be as useful for you as it is for me; I travel alone and don't want to be searching for gas or to add a gas stop on the fly (and they add the ones behind you when you do that).

      Thanks for the tip! Yeah Google is a little wild at times. Sometimes it seems to choose a route that will save you like 2 minutes but take multiple turns, stop signs etc and go through residential neighborhoods vs an easy drive down the highway. Always have to double check where it wants to send you haha 🍁

      @@LukeandAlysha I don't know what happened or when, but I decided to test it when I was at home to see if it was just me. I asked for directions to a pizza place ten minutes from my house; not a campground, but a house in a regular old residential community, and obviously I know the quickest way there. Google had me go to the main road out - so far so good - then through an adjacent neighborhood, then back to the main road I was just on. Clearly they've messed it up somehow. So I do depend on Apple for the most part. But the dual maps, one with gas stops and one with the final destination, for me, works well. Great video, btw... welcome to the U.S.!

    Practice, practice, practice. A little safety advice- invest in walkies, go slow and ALWAYS, ALWAYS have Alysha spot you.

      Very true. Spotting is so important especially when available to just help prevent a trip altering accident damaging something and having to pay for it. We should look in to walkies as right now we've just been using either phone or internet calls, or hand signals when in doubt and not working haha. Keep my eyes peeled for a deal though!😄🍁

    If I'm going to a campsite without water 💧 I get as close as I can then fill up my fresh water tank so I don't Haul it miles for nothing .

      Yeah definitely worth the pre-planning I imagine on the gas bill. Been fortunate to have mainly sites with water si far besides small stay overs where hardly any is needed. Cheers!🍁

    ATTENTION: All those that make travel Videos on TH-cam while using their RV's.
    THIS MAY OR MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. You may loose your WARRANTY rights.
    Please watch the Jun. 7, 2022 video posted by "WINGMAN WISDOM",
    (NOTE: I don't get anything out of this)
    It's about a Law Suite case and the legal applications of RV
    Warranties by Manufacturers. Simple....the first letter of "RV" stand
    for "RECREATIONAL", not Commercial....... DUH !!!
    The Manufacturers Lawyer(s) now have enough "wiggle" room to argue and
    win the case and your loose! So, all these people on TH-cam that make
    an income shooting travel VIDEOS (or whatever) ....BE CAREFUL!
