ya, this is an excellent arrangement, chordwise.
i agree that the second (Eb 69), at the end of the first verse, a short tag or abbreviated turnaround IMO, is followed by a (D 69), but i prefer to substitute a (D 9) and its tri-tone to add a bit more dissonance. why? because i'm not a fan of 100 percent parallel movement in voice leading, too much of it and harmony morphs into tonal quality like the difference between the sound of a clarinet and a trumpet or flute. although often done by guitarists to facilitate playability. ...sound-wise, probably unnoticeable when played at speed by the vast majority of listeners.

If you want to add more color tones to those chords on the bridge, that's fine. I had already used quite a few 9th chords so I chose to mix it up. You can add an 11 or 13 if you like but, I've chosen to keep things fairly tame for these lessons. It's honestly up to the musicians playing the song to take the harmony further out if they choose. I honestly try and never play the same chords twice on this tune since it's such a legendary and commonly played song. I'm just trying to make accessible content for people trying to get into this style of music.

Thanks for the comment! I know some folks get touchy about keys but, it's always a good call to do a little research on these classic tunes. Even the best books can have mistakes in them and in my opinion, to be a well rounded musician people should try and find original recordings or, at least know a little something about where the song comes from. I imagine this gentleman could just be starting out... Just because the Real Book says something, it doesn't make it 100 percent correct. I appreciate the support!

@@MichaelMcClintockMusic There's a live video of Mr. Gilberto himself playing it in F when is his 60s (likely to suit his voice at that age). I can't help but wonder if that (and I think Sinatra's cover?) is where that all got started. Point being, the composer himself wasn't a stickler regarding which key it's to be played in.
I have to ask, though, why don't you use the bass notes he's using in the original recording (i.e., Db69/Ab)?
