Streetwise - Street Photography and the 1960s

Streetwise builds on Swiss photographer Robert Frank's snapshot aesthetic, which gained attention following the release of his groundbreaking book, The Americans in 1959. Frank's focus on a more personal documentary style influenced a new generation of photographers, including legendaries such as Diane Arbus, Lee Friedlander, Jerry Berndt, Ruth-Marion Baruch, Garry Winogrand, Bruce Davidson, Danny Lyon and Ernest Withers.
Streetwise is open February 5 - May 15, 2011 at the Museum of Photographic Arts.

Most likely the picture of the white and black girls at the lunch counter was staged. Who would sit there and photographed ? Besides that, even then, a black person or anyone would sit a seat or two away. Even now, no matter the color or gender I would give the other person space and choose another seat if available. I don't want to sit right beside someone I don't know. It was staged.
