    Thank you, Professor Bushkova...I wish you'd been my teacher when I first started off...I've ended up with flawed technique & bowing & am painfully self correcting...pls continue making these simple-to-understand videos, ma'am.

    I really appreciate your clarity and brevity, Prof Bushkova. As an adult “re-beginner”, who can read music and can sightread quite well, I find my teacher is racing me ahead with ever more difficult pieces, yet I feel I still haven’t done the groundwork on scales, correct posture, correct hold etc. The only good thing about that is that I have a little less bad muscle memory to forget now that I am starting from scratch with your advice!

    Thank you so so much for this video! I’m an adult beginner and I get terrible pain in my 1st finger middle knuckle after very practice.... now I realize I’m not using my base knuckle at all and putting all the pressure on my middle knuckle! Thanks so much for showing me the way so I don’t continue to train a damaging habit into my left hand!

    Yes thanks Professor! Learning again violin 50 years after I stoped violin, I did learn to put the thumb “slightly “ under the neck for a “distanciation” of the basis of first finger from the neck. I didn’t learn to place the second finger BEFORE the first....I will do it

    Very nice video. I also watched your "Milstein exercise" video and the "basic left set up" videos.
    Sorry, for questions and questions, but I am very grateful for content and answers :D
    -> as you say, the first finger touches the string on its left side, so it is a bit slant. Sometimes I would have issues with sliding up the string a bit by that. Do you have some nice suggestions of that?
    Best wishes, Myriam:)

    • @ViolinClassUSA
      @ViolinClassUSA  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      For a while, any "sliding" finger has to be gently moved back into the right place. With time, we anticipate this slight slide and prevent it before it happens. After a while, the finger gets the message and does not slide anymore.

    Very instructive, thank you so much! When starting the very first exercises, do we need to produce a perfect intonation each time or is it ok to have some +/- 10 cents for example, since I'm practicing with a tuner?

    Thanks so much for such an easy to understand video. I'm a self - learning violinist for 4 years and my second finger's knuckle tends to completely face the fingerboard.I also dont understand where to place the thumb . I have it placed it parallel to the first finger. Is that okay

    10 months since starting and my natural position seems to be with the neck resting on the the joint where the thumb joins the hand, with the thumb lying almost parallel with the floor. The joint feels "ball" shaped and pivots easily against the neck with minimum contact.

    Dear Professor Bushkova, thanks a lot for your videos, advice and demonstrations. I have this problem you are describing in this video, my first finger goes as it should not... I understand what you recommend but I am unable to correct this bad habit. I try to relax, I follow the steps you show, but I don't know how to succeed in separating those 2 fingers... and I am starting to feel pain... I feel very sad about that... thanks a lot in advance for your precious help.

    • @ViolinClassUSA

      In such a case you need to invent a mental trick to fool your hand into 'agreeing' to do what you want it to do. A lot of violin playing is a mind game and we often have to invent the tricks to get our hands to obey our commands.

  • @hast3033

    The thumb under the violin which you promptly said was wrong is how I hold it. I find it really comfortable and I can therefore easily place all 4 fingers without excess moving. Do you still recommend that I play how you describe? Fankly I find it quite difficult and uncomfortable to hold it thus.

    • @ViolinClassUSA

      You may play any way that works for you.

    Thanks a lot for the informative video. I however would like to ask, when playing on any string with 1st finger and a lower 2nd finger (e.g. A string B and C), my 1st and 2nd fingers become stressed and look like the formation you showed how it shouldn't be. Are there any ways to tackle this? Appreciate your videos a lot! Thanks for putting in the time and effort :)

    • @ViolinClassUSA
      @ViolinClassUSA  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You need to make sure that you do not have a hint of this problem when playing C# and B (whole-step). Usually, there is already this problem in that configuration - and then, of course, it would get worse in the half-step setting. Make sure you are totally free in the B-C#. Then lightly pull the 2nd finger toward the first without squeezing.

      ViolinClass Thanks a lot for the reply! I shall take the advice and practice.

    • @zeniktorres4320

      As older adult beginner I also had this problem. eg B-C# would be fine but B-C felt stressed and uncomfortable. It took me a very long time for it to feel comfortable as B-C#, but it was for me alot of practice and patience to get it there. During that time my wrist and finger flexibility vastly improved so much so that now its very different than my right arm. I hope you have easier time with it.

    So in order not to do what you demonstrated on 3:51 we should detach the inner side of our index finger from the neck of the violin? I have short fingers and a very short pinky and if I try to reach my 4th finger to its place while touching the neck with the inner side of my index finger, I cant help but have this shape of hand. Only way I found to keep this inner side of hand straight is to keep my hand very far away from the neck (like Menuhin style) otherwise either I have that bad shape of hand or I cant reach my fourth finger far enough. I’m DESPERATE for a solution and cant find any😞😞😞

      First, every rule has an exception. Second, on the other hand, sometimes, our brain does not want to open a closed door. I cannot help more because for that, I have to see what exactly you are doing...

    • @ViolinClassUSA
      @ViolinClassUSA  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      One can address tension with great patience. Find the way to play 3-4-5 notes of your passage/line/phrase with no unnecessary tension, and then concentrate on memorizing all sensations all over the body. There are different approaches to different parts of the body. If you want more specific help, contact me for a private online lesson. ViolinClassUSA@gmail.com

    • @ViolinClassUSA

      Well, it is not really "fully" supported by those two. It is also supported by the collarbone and in between the thumb and index finger of the left hand.

      @@ViolinClassUSA But the pressure from your fingers is extra, right?
      I mean, you could let go of your index finger while playing, and the violin wouldn't drop, right?
