Imagine going thru life trying to gain a feel for the mood of a room or situation, that everyone else can almost instantaneously know; not realizing that someone else is furious with you before they’re unleashing anger on you, while coping with all the sensory input without being able to relegate any of it to background noise. It’s not difficult to see why he’s become a tax collector; since experience probably taught him early that he may never have those easy connections that those around him so obviously enjoy, and would always know that feeling of being an “outsider” , he may as well use his gifts in life to do a job that would at least keep him physically comfortable and give him enough power to make some decisions at times. About Mary Magdalene’s character: I think it’s grossly unfair to say that she was a prostitute, and a strange departure from the compassion with which you discuss characters so far. There’s actually nothing that I can find in the scriptures to support relegating her to the worlds oldest profession. She’s said to be oppressed of a demon (or something very close to that). It would be very easy to argue this to mean that she lived with the terrible burden of mental illness. This would leave her vulnerable to others’ abuse-possibly even rape, but the two concepts are far removed from one another. The Scriptures have very clear ways of stating that somebody worked in prostitution, and imho, this description doesn’t hit that particular mark. The fact that a man in a bar scene, which was purely artistic licence, had intent to impose himself on her, until he saw that she had a friend who might defend her, in no way makes her a prostitute either. If you doubt this, consider an informal survey among your female friends, as to whether any have ever had a man try to take her from a party or have ever known a friend to be “rufied” during an innocent night out dancing. The commentator states…“Upon you (Peter) I will build my church.” This is a Catholic view relating to Papal succession however, It’s Peters confession NOT Peter that is the focus. “If we were to go beyond Peter’s lifetime, and consider the writings of the church fathers from Origen to Chrysostom to Augustine - we would likewise find that the vast majority of ancient interpreters did not view the rock in Matthew 16:18 as a reference to Peter. I love what you said about the Hebrews not afraid to teach their children these stories. Even about death. I just spoke to my husband about this with Christians. Not to be afraid to teach them Biblical, sound Truth! Just as Jesus taught in the Chosen, with understanding. I love how Jesus speaks to the children or my favorite scene of JESUS healing the Leper. He couldn't be touched ir loved on by neighbors or Family. Shunned and forced to live alone. Here comes JESUS. He not only heals the man but TOUCHES AND EMBRACES. This scene as well as Mary Magdalene, just melts my heart. I cry to see The True Compassion of Christ. The compassion the moved Him to heal and deliver all who came and believed. No other movie or show of JESUS ever showed that. I love this.
This was 1 of the most touching scenes of this show so far!! HIS PRESENCE CALLING HER BY NAME AND SAYING PART OF THE PRAYER HER FATHER TAUGHT HER! And her melting into HIS arms at the overwhelming love and compassion, and thankfulness of what HE did for her! WOW I melted with her! Brandon Robinson, you explain things that I don't hear from other preachers or teachers, things I would only learn if I go to school or intentionally look for them. You Also motive me to study The Word more and search deeper into the historical context and socio-economic factors behind the "scenes"Thank you, and God bless you 🙌🏽🕊
I’m really glad for “The Chosen”, it’s success and your decision to continue to make videos. Obviously, “The Chosen” has brought me back to my childhood Christian education, but your ability to elucidate on The Word. I was given my first KJV Bible when I was 6 years old. I remember hiding in my closet with my Bible, my cassette player playing gospel to drown out the sounds of my inner city neighborhood and help clear my head of the distractions of ADD. I never realized that I was blessed with an inquisitive mind and, if I had a tutor like you, I would’ve been a preacher or more.
Thank you so much for these teachings! They bring so much clarity not just to the show, but to my appreciation of scripture. The scenes with Lilith from Season 1 Episode 1, from when Jesus places His hand on hers to the part where he calls her by her real name...these are the most profound for me. They touch me in a way that words fail to describe, as they are deeply personal, reminding me that Jesus actually sees me, and knows me. I am not inconsequential. I have watched that episode maybe 8 times and played those scenes a hundred times in my mind. What a blessing to be loved by Jesus!
I am excited each time another message from Brandon. Comes from the series. I know this because even though I am saved I feel like Mary Magdalene it’s easy to fall away from Bible Thanks Brandon

Thanks Brandon for ‘reading between the lines’ for us. Shows us how to be more observant and perceptive and gives a deep insight into the lives of the characters. No wonder The Chosen-is so so much more than just a serial based on Bible stories. Such an eye opener!
I’m am loving all of your commentary on each episode however I have found nothing in scripture to support your comment that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. I understand it more of a catholic tradition but not scriptural. I only see it written that she had seven demons....
I’m SO HAPPY I found this!! Thank you for your sincere and heartfelt insights that take us a little deeper below the surface. There are so many beautiful lessons to be learned in these episodes. Thanks for taking the time to teach us.

Excellent review. Your understanding of the religious, socio-economic, historical, and cultural background is impressive and very informative. Thank you and God bless.
I was so excited to find this commentary... just about ready to spread the word to my family and friends... until 18:54 on Season 1 Episode 1 (not my first; I went out of order) when you referred to Mary Magdalene as a prostitute. That assumption was erroneously made by Pope Gregory I after “combining” several “Mary’s” in the Bible (and for other reasons) but later corrected by Pope Paul VI. All other commentary was very helpful...so I will still spread the word with just one caveat. :) (I also enjoy Dallas’s commentaries, as well. Can’t seem to get enough of The Chosen.)Thanks and God bless you. Elizabeth
Hi Liz. I’m sorry for the confusion that moment has caused. I definitely don’t mean to suggest that my view is that Mary Magdalene was a prostitute. My commentary was based on how I perceived the portrayal of this in The Chosen (the area in which she lived, the people around her, the way other characters treat her). I apologize for how it came across.

I enjoy your videos explaining the historical and cultural context of the Bible. I have only one exception to something said in this one. Jesus did not say He will build His Church on Peter, but rather that He will build His Church on the revelation Peter had of Who Jesus is. That is the Rock, the foundation of the whole church. Thanks, again, for all the work you put into making these videos. I am learning a lot.
Thank you, Ethelyn! I’m so glad you enjoyed it. I’m not sure that he know. It would be cool. I’m so thankful to him and the other creators of this show!

Thanks for this discussion. I just found your channel and love it. I have watched two seasons of "The Chosen" and the healing of Mary is still my favorite scene. My second favorite scene is the one during which Jesus and Nathanael first meet. Both scenes show Jesus bringing suffering people from their lowest points.
Did you note also that when Jesus calls to "Lilith" outside the inn her calls her by her given name Mary. A really beautiful swing back to the beginning of the episode when her father is teaching her to recite Isaiah 43:1.
I didnt catch this until I watched the second time. It blew my mind, it made the scene sooo much more special. "I have called you by name, you are MINE." wow! I cried (again haha)

Brandon, I love your commentary as I love The Chosen, but I want to point out something. Jesus did not say “you are Peter and upon YOU I will build my church”, but “you are Peter (Petros) und upon THIS ROCK (petra) I will build my church.” This is of great significance because the ROCK is actually what Peter said (that is, his declaration that Jesus is Christ, the Son of the living God) and not Peter himself, who actually denied Him.
Just started watching this and so far I think it's been done really well. It shows a very relatable Jesus along with his disciples rather than erring on the side of otherworldly like Robert Powells version, even though this was excellent also. Some bits I struggle with as I'm sure many misinterpret Bible passages with the literal and metaphorical, but then hey nobody's perfect, not even Jesus, although he was closest than probably most, if not all.

Have you seen The Gospel of John: The Visual Bible? It is on TH-cam and is very good word for word of entire book of John?
This was 1 of the most touching scenes of this show so far!! HIS PRESENCE CALLING HER BY NAME AND SAYING PART OF THE PRAYER HER FATHER TAUGHT HER! And her melting into HIS arms at the overwhelming love and compassion, and thankfulness of what HE did for her! WOW I melted with her! The desire in my heart at times just wishing to do the same, run into DADDY'S ARMS!! You do such a great job breaking down every detail of this show is absolutely perfect!! God Bless my brother 🙏❤
To be told your worth,to experience the validation all hunger for, is so beautifully powerful!
Love the Chosen ! ! ... pay it forward folks ! !
That is what is so special about Jesus! He makes us feel special even if were not!!
Actually, we're all special, we just don't feel like we are.
Brandon Robinson, you explain things that I don't hear from other preachers or teachers, things I would only learn if I go to school or intentionally look for them. You Also motive me to study The Word more and search deeper into the historical context and socio-economic factors behind the "scenes"Thank you, and God bless you 🙌🏽🕊
I'm so glad these videos motivate you to study God's Word! That's one of my favorite things to hear. Thank you for watching.
I really like how excited you are about God's Word. So glad I found your channel.
The more I watch the chosen the more I want & understand. I love your commentary. This is wonderful.
Thank you! I'm so glad it's helpful.
Upon your confession, PETRA, the ROCK JESUS CHRIST I' ll built My church!
Yes, it was one of the first thing that came to mind during the opening scene (Deut 6:1&ff). A good plug for home schooling or Christian education.
I am excited each time another message from Brandon. Comes from the series. I know this because even though I am saved I feel like Mary Magdalene it’s easy to fall away from Bible Thanks Brandon
Very poignant and heartfelt words about our LORD and his mission. Mercy, compassion and sacrifice for all. Good critique of The Chosen, too.
Dallas jenkins is a great director and all the crew; amazing job. They are really focused to bring Jesus Christ to the world that never seen before.❤️👍👌. God bless you all.💐.
I love every minute. Continue doing the work of The King of Earth and Heaven. Amen!
John 14:6
Thanks!
This show is so relatable and brings the Bible, Jesus and the followers of Jesus to life. Leaves you wanting to watch the next episode! Never has there been anything like it!
Thanks Brandon for ‘reading between the lines’ for us. Shows us how to be more observant and perceptive and gives a deep insight into the lives of the characters. No wonder The Chosen-is so so much more than just a serial based on Bible stories. Such an eye opener!
You're welcome! Thank you for watching!
I’m so glad it was helpful. Thank you for watching!
My dad taught me the Scriptures orally but it wasn’t until I got older that I realized he was doing it.
I think it's especially good when you can be able to audibly take in the scriptures, it helps to cement it into the mind. I, myself, am an audio-visual retainer of information input. 😊🦻👀
@Troy Mitchell, I love that so much!
Always obsessed ….. towards this noble and amazing art you paint 🎨 by n through within Holy Scripture. Dad it’s wunderschon
Thank you for adding more depth to our understanding of this beautiful show!
Until “recently “ many cultures educated their children through memorization. Many cultures still use memorization.......a great brain exercise
Excellent review. Your understanding of the religious, socio-economic, historical, and cultural background is impressive and very informative. Thank you and God bless.
Thank you so much!
I have viewed this Chosen since it burst into the scene and have contributed my share of the importance of the Chosen!
@@BrandonRobbinsMinistry I understand and do appreciate your commentaries and looking forward to more. I can’t get enough of The Chosen - viewing, commentaries, cross referencing with my Bible, and so on. What a blessing.
7th episode is my favourite. I watch this episode with goosebumps. Dallas Jenkins God bless you abundantly.
This was just excellent. We have watched all of The Chosen last year and will be watching it all again tomorrow with friends who have not yet seen it. I have sent them a link to this video to watch before they begin to see The Chosen. Such clear and great insight and reminder of the love and compassion Jesus had for those cast aside but also for us. Thank you Jesus.
Thank you for watching!
Love your review and understanding of the culture in Jesus’ time. Thank you so much!
🙋♀️ your commentary makes biblical stuff make more sense
Gods has given Brandon wisdom of words.......
Praise the Lord
Blessings to my Sisters and Brothers
🙏 🙌 🙏 🙌 🙏
Thank you so much! I'm honored to be able to do it!
Brandon it's the very best program about Jesus I've ever seen.watched both seasons paid it thru after watching 6 times I've learned more each time. I love when Nicodemus sites Psalms Kiss the son....less he perish in the way. And what did Jesus say? Yes I've cried and laughed best ever show.TY.
I can so relate to Mary's desperation, her crying through the scripture as she begs for release! No wonder she did not shy away from the crucifiction... she knew torture & torment just as Jesus would/did & overcame!
Really good point.
She was no stranger to suffering.

I love you brother! You open our eyes and hearts like very few do. The Holy Spirit does miracles in your words 🙏
Brandon thank you so much for this site. I have been so blessed by your teaching. Thank you for the chosen, God gets the glory!
I'm so glad it's been a blessing to you!
thank you, Brandon, for your short exhortations: I forward them to young people preparing their wedding ! I keep you in my prayer as I offer mass in the church of my village here in Brittany. Far away only on this earth, yet so close in Jesus ' 'heart.
I'm honored. Thank you for passing them along. Praying for you and your ministry.
These videos mean so much to me....a perfect accompaniment to each episode. Thank you, thank you!
I'm so glad it's helpful!
Thank you for the beautiful prayer that you shared. I said it with you . God Bless you
What a great commentary! I’ve been wanting to watch The Chosen but just haven’t been motivated enough. Now I’m excited to see it, and I know your commentary and sermon series will enhance my experience and my understanding.
A beautiful and touching explanation...all of the info was so useful to get a deep dive really since we don't understand many aspects when we're just watching it! Thankyou for the good work🙏
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for watching!
True and great explanation. Really appreciate your input on these characters. True that Jesus pick the unwanted, rejected, low in life people. I'm one, who was outcast by my family, and abused in my marriage. But I'm so amazed how Jesus was always there with me. He's still with me.
My friend and I were extras on the Sermon on the Mount scene in the last episode of the season. It was filmed near Dallas Texas on 2-10-2021. We had to be at the local football stadium at 6am for a covid test. Then we were bussed to the set. We didn't start filming until after lunch. There was between 2000 and 4000 extras that day. It was very cold and we were all bundled up until filming. Then, we were in our 1st century garb that we provided ouerselves. We were @/thefrozenchosen but it was an AWESOME experience. @/getusedtodifferent @/sotm @/thechosen @/freezingforareason @/chosenextra
what a privilege :-)
Was that filmed in Midlothian by chance?
@@sharonwiseman9401 Yes! And it was FREEZING!!! LOL!
I love the insights and background you provided.
I love how you break this down ! Thank God for people like you who do this for us
I just found your channel and I LOVE everything you ae doing! Keep it up, this just shows how God is using you to reach people who are lost and have questions but no answers.
Thank you! The first episode has such a dark background during the film, it was distracting to me. I really appreciate your insight and commentary. I loved the film, just found myself frustrated with the dark background. ❤️🙏
Thank you so much for digging deeper into this show. There is so much I feel I'm missing. You opened up a bit more
I'm so glad it's helpful!
Utterly brilliant ! Each episode so moving. Fantastic production.
I dig you , Brandon. You do good work for our Lord. I believe we'll meet one day we both have eternity with our lord Jesus
Thank you! That sounds great!
God's mercy endures forever
This is one of my favorite episodes! I am really enjoying your commentary and other things on your channel! Thank you
I enjoy your videos explaining the historical and cultural context of the Bible.
Now I want to watch it...thank you...and bless you hugs
I really appreciate your teaching to clarify scriptures.
Thank you for watching!
People who love people, or people who love things. Choose.
Thank you so much for sharing such video. So profound! God bless and power to you!
I usually don't watch videos about Jesus I like how you use science to watch and understand the scriptures. 👍
Love your showing to us, does Dallas know what a great service you offer us and to the show? Thank you 👐🏼🙏🏽☮️
Thank you, Ethelyn! I’m so glad you enjoyed it.
I’m not sure that he know. It would be cool. I’m so thankful to him and the other creators of this show!
Praying that any who are lost and watching this show will be lead into salvation while we are still in the dispensation of Grace 🙏 1st corinthians 15 vs 1-4
Thank you Jesus!!!
👍 Wonderful commentary on this Beloved series!!!
Amazing you should be part of the show and the message it imparts!
Great segment!
Thank you so much for helping me understand deeper
I'm so glad it's helpful!
praise the lord.....just amazing explaining pastor
Thank you for watching!
I cried and renided me of how much we have fallen from the truth trust love compassion family and to do help others without boasting about it.. to Judge thing's many parts of this series made me think about everything. ..
My personal experience while in a coma last word's was to tell them about me Jesus Christ i see now Christianity is under attack trying to get rid of hope faith strength family love compassion for each other without any judgement..
I cried was a personal experience to me a reminder of what matters
You all know that Dallas s dad co wrote the left behind series! He is truly talented and blessed to be a blessing. Love the extra intelligence. Blessing
That's cool! I didn't know that.
Jerry Jenkins co-wrote the " Left Behind" series!!! #FACT
@@lauraowen8142 had you know Dallas s last name?
@@cherriethomas9538 Jenkins, His dad is Jerry Jenkins 😊
@@lauraowen8142 Did you also know that Jerry has written a novel based on Season 1? It came out two weeks ago, called The Chosen: I Have Called You by Name.
Aside from the Nicodemus dynamic, Matthew is my favorite.
I love this so much! Thank you for seeing these things and letting others know.
Thank you for watching!
Aww.. That's The Nicest Thing to Hear.. Thank You❣️ Yes I Do Know!! If I was down the road from the bus stop.. my little daughter was picked on at the bus stop at just 'around' 8 yrs old, from a Mom over something that Was Not my daughter's fault😢💔 We became friends later.. The girls always were friends But she'd tell her daughter that stuff in front of mine (don't talk to don't be friends etc) and give my daughter bad or scary looks to Scare Her, she told me😢💔 (the mother didn't do in front of Me!?) The girls were friends even though that happened till I confronted the Mom again couple months later'?' when I Learned about!! It Broke My Heart when my daughter told me and I didn't know or notice till She Told💔!! But I Confront her as Soon as I learned from my little girl back in 98💕 The scary movie scream came out and I baby sat my nephew's a little older then my girl, over the summer. I caught them watching it and told them change it Quick and told them No at Aunt Cheryl house!!! So the Mom showed up Crying the next day, when I opened the door, said my daughter explained to hers something in the movie -bad part, and said my daughter like took her daughter's innocence💔!? I was Shocked and Crying saying I'm So Sorry and She Didn't watch that and it's my fault I caught it on and changed it, I explained!!. It didn't matter I guess?! My daughter was Hurt by an Adult picking on her like that, and brought up that stuff when explaining her friend years later. Ugh people don't know How Much Bad and Good STAYS When it happens to a Child❣️ Not something that's not a fault. Doing it on purpose and knowing what your doing IS NOT NICE AT ALL To A Child (a child is who They'll be as adult by age 7!? I learned in child care back then. Worked daycare infants class usually had 5 or 6 infants)💔 Notice What Your Doing and You'll get into a Habit of Treating Children with Love And Respect that They Deserve More Even❣️❤️💯 Your So Thoughtful.. I Love Your Explanation at End❣️🙏 Great Show, 2nd x watching so far❣️
So very true.
Do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind, that by testing you may discern what is the will of God, what is good and acceptable and perfect. Romans 12:2
Love your explanation of the beautiful scenes.
Thank you! I'm so glad!
Wow! I really enjoy listening to you!👍The Bible comes alive!!! The culture is so important to know, it makes it real. God bless! So happy I subscribed!😇👍👍
Thank you!
Thank you so much for these videos! So great!
The rest of the story a Paul Harvey moment we really need to know the back story, thank you all for this wonderful information that we all can be used by god. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thank you so much for your time in sharing all the details in life that matter. People matter in every way. Yeshua saw that and taught that and lived it out. Very special teaching Brandon, thank you! The instructions or The Torah, were written to all the twelve tribes of Israel, if we are of Messiah, then we are the seed of Abraham. Many Blessings! 🌳🕎🌳

Please comment on the scene in S1 E1 where Quintas stops Nicodemus' chariot and asks the riddle, "What can be under the water and never drown?" Just wondering your take on why that riddle was included.
