Thank you so much for sharing this, Dave! I myself have been asked to play guitar in an amateur production of this show, and I must say that this is without question the most difficult guitar score I have received yet! Nevertheless, these videos have given me the confidence I need to pull it off well! Thank you so much! 😊
I have played this show once here in Finland and hopefully again when I'll apply for college in the US. This show is super fun to play :D I'm a drummer and percussionist.
gonna be doing a production of this in the summer and I'll be playing guitar. this sounds amazing! thanks for posting this it's super helpful for me to see someone else do it!
I am playing bass for this musical in February, the music is surprisingly good and I have been practicing quite a bit. Of course since my school is not that big we don't have all the required musicians, so whatever we don't have the director/md is going to use pre-recorded. What we will probably have is me on bass, drums, my friend on the percussion book, trombone, violin, flute, maybe guitar
Thanks for posting this Dave.I do a fair bit of Guitar Pit work for various Amdram groups in the UK and it's nice to watch you and see how should be done! I was out of the country when I received an e-mail to ask if I could play for Legally Blonde. I was available for the dates in question - so I agreed. I've just received the music and though of s***t! This is one hell of a challenging Guitar part.
+Tony Williams hey mate. Yes, there's lots of spots in the chart that are stupidly written. The show moves along so damned fast I had to simplify some bits.
Actually do you have any of the charts for any of the shows? I'm going to the London College of Music come september and want to get my MT chops up. Also, is that a musicman in the rack?
Hey, I'm a little late to the party. My school is doing the musical in April. Do you have any tips to help speed up learning the music? There's a lot of quick changes that always trip me up.
Thanks so much for the vid, really helped work out the thrust of it - could you please tell me, what chords are climbing in the middle and at the end of the chorus - the chorus is something like C, Am, B-flat, Dm... What's the climby chord thing back to C? I'm doing F, G, A, B but it doesn't sound right... What's the climb at the end of the chorus, sounds like an extra chord in there? Is there an A-flat in there somewhere? Any help much appreciated!
Any chance you filmed the whole performance? I'm playing guitar for the show in July and struggling to get everything right because I don't read music. I'm just going off the soundtrack and your two videos haha
Hi Ben, sorry no I didn't. I hate to say it but, there is absolutely no way you can play this show without being able to read music. It's one of the most challenging and full on guitar charts I've ever played - it's so fast paced and doesn't stop. I practiced heavily for a couple of months to get it.
Also, there is lots of parts where guitar is playing the same lines (or complimenting lines) to other instruments. Especially the nylon and acoustic stuff, which are very exposed.
+Dave Banen cheers for the fast reply, I've contacted the musical director and I was his last resort: all the other guitarists he knows are on holiday the week of the performance. I've got the intro and half of Omigod you guys sorted. I took reading music lessons at college so I can understand the rhythm patterns and some of the notes but I'm mainly going off the soundtrack. To get the intro and half of omigod it took me 2 and a half hours. Ive got another 18 songs to go haha. I quit my job a couple of weeks ago so I'm just gonna get my head down and try and work out as much of it as possible. My social life will crumble but I will do literally anything for music. I'm going to a musical university in Manchester UK in September for 3 years so I need as much musical experience under my belt as possible.
First I didn’t write it.. second I don’t care as I couldn’t give a toss about using gods name in vein 🤣 third it’s an awesome track in the context of the show and music theatre.
