“California Dreaming” has a special place in my life history so I’m attached to the original Mamas & Papas rendition. Diana’s unique vocal style (is it throat singing or is she singing two notes simultaneously?) led me to believe it wouldn’t be suited for a cover of this iconic song. WOW! Was I wrong. She’s transformed everything & created a unique creation. She has blown away my previous prejudices. She owns this song for me now. Thank you for this mind-blowing experience.

Diana'a voice is just amazing! This was the first time in episode 6 where she used her full voice first. She hid it for 5 episodes completely. There are some huge masks, costumes, impossible to sing in them. They record the singing in a studio, and on the stage during performance they use those soundtracks. There are some distortions and pitch changes sometimes, but we all know Diana's voice can't be hidden unless she sings differently. Don't get me wrong 99% is her voice, only some effects are also used sometimes (distortion, delay, etc.). There is an explanation about the second voices you hear, on this show all performances are recorded on studio, they are not live because it is impossible to sing with the mask on. Diana has sang this live of course multiple times both in her concerts and on radio and it still sounds the same minus the reverb. Keep that in mind for Sweet dreams too, the song is prerecorded in a studio, it is not live so that enables many effects with multiple voices overlapping but all these voices is still Diana, there are videos that show her recording sweet dreams in the studio and she does all the vocals herself. C6 is not Diana's highest note, she has gone higher in her original song "The day you..." it is worth for you to check out her duet with Brandon Stone where they sing this for new years.
@@SirHairless No i wasted days trying to find a way to pass these videos through copyrights because this show (Masked singer) is extremely copyright protected. Most people that have reacted to my videos had no problems but it seems that in some countries even the versions i made still have problems. I can give you links to the original videos if you want through mail so that you can try your own filters with them but be careful because channels have been closed in the past because their protection was less than what i used.
@@SirHairless No appeal works with the masked singer by the way. I do not know if your case will be any different because you stop the video for your analysis but i have not seen anyone vocal coach or other managing to make a successful appeal for this show.

(Keep in mind that before California dreaming she was trying to disguise her voice so that they do not recognize her, she still made all those voices herself without digital altering but she does not sound like Diana at all, she sang these songs acapella live to prove that it was indeed her that she was singing.)

She disguised her voice for the first five performances on this show. Nobody had a clue that it was her. Beginning with this sixth performance, the producers told her to stop disguising her voice. While she performed on this show at age 19 for a couple of months, she kept a vlog of her experience. I think it may have been her first competition under pressure without her mother with her. Her mother couldn't come with her because she might have been recognized. I think it gives insight into why her fans love her. It did bother me to see her cry. In the same show she did a fab version of a more operatic classical piece.. that fited with costume perfectly.🧙🏻♂️😎🇬🇧 Trying to hide her unique voice and getting the best out of a secret costume performance is a bit like packing a pint into a quart.. In a a more recent duet performance she really got to stretch her range and perform naturally...and boy does it show. She also looks like a grown up star.

You should check out the behind the scenes video of this Masked Singer series on Diana's official TH-cam channel called, "The Secrets of Ermine" (the ermine is the weasel-like creature mask Diana wears). You can see her practice many of the songs and you get to see the ups and downs of a TV special project like this one. It's not too long and it has excellent English subtitles.
Oh I love that she went back to low. Her low will always remain magical to me. Also regarding the repeat of lyrics, I don't know if you remember, in "Can't help falling in love" she sings twice the first verse, and she never sings the actual second one. Incredible song as always. Lupe.-

I've never understood what happened to the first two lines of the second verse. If it had not been pre recorded i would have assumed Diana had mixed the words up.
I was thinking she might have just made an error, but as it's pre-recorded there is obviously a reason. The fact they're about a church and praying can't be coincidence? Or maybe it can... who knows 😅

In Masked singer, at least in Sweden, the artists typically doesn't sing the whole song but rather a shortened version, leaving out a verse and a chorus. And I think, as an amateur, that they usually sing over a backing track so it's partially live and partially not. That could explain the doubled voices you heard.

Great analysis as always, but I prefer the live, more straightforward version, which she sings when she is unmasked. I am afraid my ancient ears are unable to discern the complex nuances of the studio recorded masked version, which becomes a little muddied in my brain. The live unmasked version, albeit with a little reverb I find easier to follow in spite of the judges joining in over enthusiastically. It goes without saying that Diana is the greatest singer on the planet, but sometimes simpler is better.

She disguised her voice for the first five performances on this show. Nobody had a clue that it was her. Beginning with this sixth performance, the producers told her to stop disguising her voice. While she performed on this show at age 19 for a couple of months, she kept a vlog of her experience. I think it may have been her first competition under pressure without her mother with her. Her mother couldn't come with her because she might have been recognized. I think it gives insight into why her fans love her. It did bother me to see her cry. Trying to hide her unique voice and getting the best out of a secret costume performance is a bit like packing a pint into a quart..
In a a more recent duet performance she really got to stretch her range and perform naturally...and boy does it show. She also looks like a grown up star.

The best version her encore version without the mask. It's out there if you want to see it. You should check out the behind the scenes video of this Masked Singer series on Diana's official TH-cam channel called, "The Secrets of Ermine" (the ermine is the weasel-like creature mask Diana wears). You can see her practice many of the songs and you get to see the ups and downs of a TV special project like this one. It's not too long and it has excellent English subtitles.
Oh I love that she went back to low. Her low will always remain magical to me.
Also regarding the repeat of lyrics, I don't know if you remember, in "Can't help falling in love" she sings twice the first verse, and she never sings the actual second one.

I've never understood what happened to the first two lines of the second verse. If it had not been pre recorded i would have assumed Diana had mixed the words up.
I was thinking she might have just made an error, but as it's pre-recorded there is obviously a reason. The fact they're about a church and praying can't be coincidence? Or maybe it can... who knows 😅

In Masked singer, at least in Sweden, the artists typically doesn't sing the whole song but rather a shortened version, leaving out a verse and a chorus.
And I think, as an amateur, that they usually sing over a backing track so it's partially live and partially not. That could explain the doubled voices you heard.

Great analysis as always, but I prefer the live, more straightforward version, which she sings when she is unmasked. I am afraid my ancient ears are unable to discern the complex nuances of the studio recorded masked version, which becomes a little muddied in my brain. The live unmasked version, albeit with a little reverb I find easier to follow in spite of the judges joining in over enthusiastically. It goes without saying that Diana is the greatest singer on the planet, but sometimes simpler is better.

She is a talented young singer, but No comparison to the gorgeous, natural, organic version to the original song. So many changes from soulful sound of Mamas and Papas…. 🤔 I think they are trying to make female version of Dimash, out of her but without any success unfortunately. Her beginning debut was amazing though..! I n my personal opinion she sounds so much better with more simple songs without any riffing where she can really show her range and colors of her voice…. 👍
