Please if there is a God in heaven, and I truly believe there is, can we give the phrase, 'they made it their own', the proper burial it deserves? You are not alone in the use, and you aren't the first I've implored to cease from using it. The phrase belongs with the other phrases like 'you know what I mean?' at the end of every statement. Or the other add-on 'you feel me?' I'm sorry if I upset or hurt your feelings. You also are free to tell me to go stick it, most people do. Anyways, I'm done now. P.S. I am so impressed with the work Diana has put into her voice. She overwhelms my senses and I am often left with just tears of wonderment. I don't mind that at all. She is an Iconic singer and belongs in the same ring of honor as Dimash, Morissette, So Hyang and Karen Carpenter who I feel is maybe the greatest natural singer ever. I do have to mention one young singer who does not get the notice that a certain young Norwegian singer gets. She is Kazakh like Dimash, but she reminds me of Karen Carpenter, her name is Daneliya Tuleshova. Maybe you could pick any song she has done and you will not be wasting your time. Again I'm done now.
This is one of the last performances of Diana at the competition where she has already sung with her voice. For the first six performances, she changed her voice and could not be identified. :)

Hi both - yes this was on the Russian version of The Masked Singer - she was hiding under the mask of the Gornostai (Ermine), which I understand was actually based on a mythical Japanese fox, the Kitsune, which had nine tails. It should be noted, she is miming to a previously recorded track - it's impossible to sing whilst wearing such a heavy and restrictive costume. This was Diana's 6th song. In the previous five she successfully hid her voice - in this song she showed her real voice for the first time. California Dreaming was her sixth performance, and the first one where she dropped the effort to disguise her voice. It was amazing that she could sing in five different unrecognizable voices for the first five songs. In the backstage scenes video she just released, she said, "They stopped hiding me. I've stopped hiding." I take it that it was scripted and directed to be so by the producers of the show. They weren't going to allow her to be the winner of this show, as she had won all the other three TV show talent contests she had been in on NTV. But if she had continued the camouflage, we wouldn't have the chance to hear her magnificent natural voice. The "I'll win you back" song, which was the seventh performance, will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. 👉 Diana as a graceful, Japanese-looking ermine in the Mask Singer Show 2023 in Moscow. Of course you know Diana's voice and you actually recognize her the moment you hear her... but everything is different here. You hear Diana like you've never heard her before... and you really ask yourself: Is that Diana? Yes, everything is Diana, live and without voice distortion!!! For 5 episodes Diana was able to hide her voice, then it became clear who was hiding under the ermine, and in the 9th episode she had to give up. Until then... Diana gave us 9 beautiful songs. Her magical, expressive voice gives the songs her impressive Diana style and of course she gives us goosebumps. I still have to get used to the new Diana with the bell-like voice... sooooo beautiful, fantastic, brilliant, grandios, gorgeous, wonderful!! At this point I must say a few words about the great work of Diana's singing teachers: Prof. Olga Donskoy brought Diana through the broken voice with flying colors, restored the lost high notes and prepared Diana for the entrance exam at the legendary Russian State Institute of Theater and variety arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS). Unfortunately Prof. Olga Donskoy passed away in October 2020 (pandemic). Russian fans helped Diana find a new voice coach: Alexandra Pismennaya (Sasha, not the Sasha Kvashenaya from the session channel). She was a student of Prof. Donskoy and also has a deep voice. This teacher of Diana's has been doing wonders for the past two years. Not only are the two friends, Sasha has also made a quantum leap in Diana's vocal development, taking her to a new, even higher level. Diana's vocal range has expanded by nearly an octave, Sasha has also enabled Diana to explore new vocal colors (timbres) to expand her repertoire with endless song pieces and genres too...whether they are mysterious and primal like Mother Nature or delicate and wants to sound clear like a little bell, then it will sound like one. The ## 6 - 9 are all stunning masterpieces sung with the full range of Diana's natural voice; it's Authentic DA. The first five songs are brilliant tours-de-force of vocal imitation and even vocal parody (#5!): Diana is unrecognizable there. You can begin with the second group (actually, you have already begun with it) and then go to the first one, just to admire Diana's unbelievable chameleonic qualities. Or you can follow the natural order of performances. The first group will give you much fun, while the second group will give you goosebumps. I strongly recommend you to watch the whole series in its integrality. It is a real pleasure to follow it.

As others have mentioned, Diana hid her voice for the first 5 shows (this was number 6), then let loose. The judges all knew it was her by the 7th performance, but she was not unmasked until the 9th episode. In the 9th episode Diana sang an operatic aria - the voice she used was very angelic, and would make a good reaction as it is so different from her usual tones. She also did an unmasked encore at the end of that episode and sang California Dreaming again, without the mask.
Loved the reaction! She hid her voice early, this is her 6th performance where she first started to show her full voice. Hi, the sound is being manipulated at this kind of shows that you don't know immediately who is singing. The jury should not guess easily who is behind the mask. But anyway, Diana has such a unique voice she couldn't hide for long 😃.
Diana is able to sing this way. The first one "Bloody Mary". I thought they were using the voice distortion like in the US. version for conversation, but their are videos showing her singing this way without any digital enhancements. The most they do is add delay or echo. They do not change her pitch.
You say that Diana makes each cover her own - you haven't heard how she created "Sweet Dreams" yet. I think Annie Lennox would be very surprised to hear this performance. California Dreaming was her sixth performance, and the first one where she dropped the effort to disguise her voice. It was amazing that she could sing in five different unrecognizable voices for the first five songs. In the backstage scenes video she just released, she said, "They stopped hiding me. I've stopped hiding." I take it that it was scripted and directed to be so by the producers of the show. They weren't going to allow her to be the winner of this show, as she had won all the other three TV show talent contests she had been in on NTV. But if she had continued the camouflage, we wouldn't have the chance to hear her magnificent natural voice. The "I'll win you back" song, which was the seventh performance, will make the hair on the back of your neck stand up. I think it's best to read the English lyrics before you listen to it, because it's a Russian song.

👉 Diana as a graceful, Japanese-looking ermine in the Mask Singer Show 2023 in Moscow. Of course you know Diana's voice and you actually recognize her the moment you hear her... but everything is different here. You hear Diana like you've never heard her before... and you really ask yourself: Is that Diana? Yes, everything is Diana, live and without voice distortion!!! For 5 episodes Diana was able to hide her voice, then it became clear who was hiding under the ermine, and in the 9th episode she had to give up. Until then...
Diana gave us 9 beautiful songs. Her magical, expressive voice gives the songs her impressive Diana style and of course she gives us goosebumps. I still have to get used to the new Diana with the bell-like voice... sooooo beautiful, fantastic, brilliant, grandios, gorgeous, wonderful!!
At this point I must say a few words about the great work of Diana's singing teachers: Prof. Olga Donskoy brought Diana through the broken voice with flying colors, restored the lost high notes and prepared Diana for the entrance exam at the legendary Russian State Institute of Theater and variety arts (Juilliard similar to GITIS). Unfortunately Prof. Olga Donskoy passed away in October 2020 (pandemic).
Russian fans helped Diana find a new voice coach: Alexandra Pismennaya (Sasha, not the Sasha Kvashenaya from the session channel). She was a student of Prof. Donskoy and also has a deep voice. This teacher of Diana's has been doing wonders for the past two years. Not only are the two friends, Sasha has also made a quantum leap in Diana's vocal development, taking her to a new, even higher level. Diana's vocal range has expanded by nearly an octave, Sasha has also enabled Diana to explore new vocal colors (timbres) to expand her repertoire with endless song pieces and genres too...whether they are mysterious and primal like Mother Nature or delicate and wants to sound clear like a little bell, then it will sound like one. You will hear it and enjoy it and most importantly you will feel it deep inside you... I'm sooo excited!!!
Maybe I'm wrong, but I feel that Sasha and Diana Dimash studied very well, analyzed and realized that Diana too can take her skills and diversity to an even higher level... what a prospect, I'm delighted on the journey. Thanks Sasha!

As others have mentioned, Diana hid her voice for the first 5 shows (this was number 6), then let loose. The judges all knew it was her by the 7th performance, but she was not unmasked until the 9th episode. In the 9th episode Diana sang an operatic aria - the voice she used was very angelic, and would make a good reaction as it is so different from her usual tones. She also did an unmasked encore at the end of that episode and sang California Dreaming again, without the mask.
I find the second run (without the mask) even better ...

Hi, the sound is being manipulated at this kind of shows that you don't know immediately who is singing. The jury should not guess easily who is behind the mask. But anyway, Diana has such a unique voice she couldn't hide for long 😃.

I thought they were using the voice distortion like in the US. version for conversation, but their are videos showing her singing this way without any digital enhancements. The most they do is add delay or echo. They do not change her pitch.
