    Hi Billie,
    Another great topic and video....
    I noticed in you IPTC template, you are only using variables for the date fields. I include the (City, Location, State, Country) in mine as I shoot more than one stadium and then only need to update the Event and Location section. Same goes for the Event field, use a variable to populate the Headline.

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a good call, Peter! My question - how does it know your location?

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@billieweiss7681 You already filled that in in your PM template at the right hand site at Event and Location.You can use that variable, or those variables too

      @@billieweiss7681 The right side of the panel Events & Locations are drop-downs, have all venues, etc I use listed there. It is easy to select, there are then automatically populated in the Description/Caption section with variables.

    Question. How can I later search through my photos utilizing keywords, like players names?

  • @zavoina
    @zavoina 3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    I use PM and Code Replacements. Question, when I identify the athlete in the Description/Caption box, "Texas Rangers pitcher John Doe (1) throws a no-hitter..." is that enough to be found in metadata searches, or should the athlete's ID also be in the Keywords box and or Persons Shown box? And thanks for the videos.

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question Andy. Personally, I include the athlete's ID in both the caption and keywords field. I'm not sure it's totally necessary, but I believe it adds another layer of data, which helps make your archive more searchable and "smarter". Hope that helps!

    How can i edit Quicktime metadata like wrong created time, change UTC time -1 or +1 hour in summer time in winter or wrong time zone?

  •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hi Billie, great video. Can I ask where and how you organize and archive your photos?

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I use photoshelter! It's a great online archive service that lets you access your photos from anywhere. And it's fully searchable, so any metadata you put in when you upload to photoshelter all gets put to good use. This is one of the industry standard solutions for a lot of sports teams, but also for individual photographers!

    Heavy topic you've broached here, but this is a great overview! I started using PM last year to 1) ingest faster and 2) use code replacements to let me get captions done faster.
    Question: on the IPTC template screen, what is the difference between the load/save options and using the lightning bolt? I've been using the bolt so far. I don't know how they differ and if I'm going to regret it later.

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Definitely a heavy topic and a lot to unpack! Yeah so good question. My answer would be the lightning bolt is for saved templates that you would go back to time and time again - for example I shoot for Red Sox every day, so I have that template saved in the lightning bolt. Whereas using the load option would just be more for a one-off assignment for a client with a different template. And then saving that metadata file will just save it locally to whatever location you choose, whereas the lightning bolt gives you that quick easy access right within the photo mechanic window.

    May I ask you a question, In one of the video's that you did you set up a "Say Hi To the Camera", may I ask how you did that and what gear you used

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Sure Steve! That was a Nikon D5 body with a wide angle lens being triggered by pocket wizards. So there was a pocket wizard on top of that camera, and then the second transmitter in my hand. And I just kept an eye on the setup and fired away when players walked by.

    G'day Billie, thanks for all the great vids, really enjoying them. Yes, PM is a program that one might think you need a science degree to get your head around, & this is very true, but after prob 10 years of using, I am still learning how it all works!! Would I use any other prog for this.... Hell No !! Cheers from QLD, Australia.

    Hi Billie, enjoyed the video, thank you. Can I ask will the date field you have in your IPTC template and mention in the video work in Adobe Bridge? Thanks Paul

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Paul, thanks for watching. Yes, the date you enter in the IPTC should carry over to work in Adobe Bridge. Once the metadata is in there, it generally carries through whichever program you use. Good luck!

    Do you apply metadata to only the JPEGs you edit or do you also apply them to any raw files you might shoot.

    • @billieweiss7681
      @billieweiss7681  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I apply the base, standard metadata template for that shoot to all the RAW files upon ingest. Then I go into the final JPEG selects with the specific captions and keywords needed for each photo. Let me know if that helps!
