There's an example of that in Lego Marvel Super Heroes. The Destroyer is a boss you fight but when you unlock him you get the mini Destroyer who's not all that impressive. He's not even a big fig despite the fact this was the game that introduced them as playable characters.
And Venom got two forms so it would have been possible to do the same with Destroyer but apparently not.

I don't think Lava monster, Sauron, Destroyer, Kraken, etc. were supposed to be playable like showcased in the video (tbh, i don't believe in the majority of the characters showcased)

There were plans for a wave 3 but they got canned

Wave 3 actually planned to have Vortech be playable, alongside a 5x5 scanner to put whatever you want in the game, The Flash being playable and new dimensions based on Minecraft and Angry Birds.

I mean, you (probably) weren't supposed to ever play as them, only face them or see them in a level, many to these were never supposed to be playable, just AI characters.

You actually can play as Han Solo (frozen in carbonite) in LEGO Star Wars II, all you do is go to the Jabba’s Palace level in free play mode, turn on extra toggle, and hop around as him as long as ya want!

Honestly, he looked kind of lame. If he was in the game they could have done a lot more with him then what was seen in this video. They could have given him the little disks, skates, and a nike with neon streaks.

The lava monster and destroyer would have been such dope characters to play as. I wish we could custom big figs
2:15 strange, most of these creatures have nothing "Legoish" about them, they look too detailed.
Its mostlikly because they were modeling lego figures on top of the original model then just gave up.
They were actually used in a boss fight with the arena on geonosis iirc. That game in general had this very odd mix of realism and lego, again, iirc.

In LEGO Star Wars: The Complete Saga, Damaged Anakin Skywalker is an accessible character in the ios port of the game. I don’t know if you can still get it though.

For LEGO Batman 2, there were two other unused characters: Nora Fries and Darksied.
There are more unused characters. Man of the year Lex and Bruce Wayne, Vixen, Superboy
Nora is probably the best as that is the only lego version of her.

Fun fact: You can play as Carbonite Solo in The Complete Saga by using the Extra Activator in the first level of TROTJ
The Dragon Dance figure reminds me of what I used to do. I take a minifig and remove the legs before placing the torso onto a 2x4 brick and then place the legs underneath it with a second pair of legs at the back for a Centaur.
This gives me so much nostalgia for the Lego games I used to own and play with my little brother
It's still crazy that there was some characters unique to the portable versions of these games

Lava monster still has to be one of the coolest lego characters (unusable or not) I've seen so far from the games
Huh, I distinctly remember being able to play as some of these, specifically the Dementor and Sauron(the secret level in Lego LOTR allowed you to play as him)
That was a minifigure version of him.
