I have had Michael Bublé as a guest at my old restaurant a million times. Let me tell you, that guy is an absolute legend. He once dosed my owner with weed brownies by asking for his opinion as a chef on the brownies he baked. Immediately after my boss finished it, he died laughing and told him "have fun buddy" 😂. He swears like a trucker and is one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet.

So the thing with Europe time difference is u can actually do fun things with because if ur'e in school like I was for the Sochi olympics u get to go to school and watch the game with ur friends because the teachers dont want to teach and will use any excuse to not teach. Because the Olympics are in Italy which is six hour difference (i swear the timezones in europe must be huge) that makes it a perfect time to watch for school.
I can kind of see where Buble is coming from, wanting the Oilers in the first round. Because if you beat the airings in round one, and then you have the Oilers who trounce the Knights in five in round one, maybe you have more self-doubt. But if you beat the zoilers in round one after the stretch they have been on, what do the Canucks think after that series, no matter how narrowly it’s done? You think the rest of the playoffs are a formality because you are destined to win the Cup. I experienced this as an Oilers fan during the 2006 cup run-they were low-key a really good team that was sunk by awful goaltending (where have I heard that before?) and they were stabilized by Roloson down the stretch but the goal-scoring dried up a bit. Analytics were just getting going, but a lot of the early pioneers of that stuff had that team as better than they were showing. So the 2006 run may not have been a complete accident, but also, how much of that was that they beat arguably the cup favourite that year, and they felt like they could beat anyone after that? They might have won too if they hadn’t lost Roloson in game 1 of the finals too, but we will never know in this lifetime I suppose. So as a Canucks fan, take on Goliath early if you can, because does the route to the cup not probably go through the Oilers anyway? So I do see the logic.
Assuming that is the logic, I don’t know a man who goes around insisting that we change our pronunciation of a popular flavoured carbonated water to be closer to his last name can be trusted to come up with sane, logical takes.

I think I have a better idea for a best on best tournament than the mini tournament that the league proposed and it would truly be the best on best than the Olympics even. An original 6 Cup tournament. It wouldn't be the original six teams but each tournament you could name the team's after legends from the original six teams. It would just be six teams consisting of the absolute best hockey players in the NHL.
Let's be honest, there isn't a player outside the NHL that would beat out the talent in the NHL for this idea. Each team has 25 players, like the Olympic rosters. Not every team in the NHL has to have a representative because that's stupid. Just what the talent pool of a league would look like if the NHL still had 6 teams. Just the absolute best players and goalies. You could do a draft selected by 6 Gm's and coaches who are viewed as the best. I think it would be fun for all hockey fans. The only hurdle I see is getting the players to actually care for it. It's easy to get them to care about the Olympics or a World Cup. Every player wants to represent their country.
I think this idea would really would be the best on best. The Olympics isn't a best on best. You have countries with rosters with few to no NHL talent and also some rosters mixed with players that wouldn't make any NHL team. I think it would be a great way to showcase the league's talent to grab new fans and get more casuals to maybe even fall in love with the sport where they become dedicated hockey fans. The tournament could be every team plays each other once in a round robin and the top 4 teams go toa playoff structure where the semi-finals and finals could be a best of 3.
It's really a pipe dream because the NHL would never go for it and neither would the players. This would take almost a month to do and I doubt the players would be into doing this right before training camp or after the Playoffs end. The risk of injury would just be as prevalent as the Olympics and World Cup. The only driving force to get the players to care like they would for the Playoffs or a world tournament is their competitiveness and a big cash prize.

I don't blame the NHL and the owners for not going to the Olympics. I blame the IOC entirely because they will not allow the NHL to promote it in any way. The NHL is not allowed to advertise and promote it to help grow the fanbase in the NHL. They are just told to shut down your season and give us your best players regardless of the impact on the teams. The Islanders lost John Tavares for the season in a Canada/Latvia game in 2014. What if that was McDavid/Pasta/Mathews/Petersson and it cost their team a Stanley Cup. Given that the NHL cannot use the fact that they are going to the Olympics to promote their own league, it is basically like having these guys getting injured going skiing as it does nothing for the NHL.
Bring in an original 6 player, or family member of same, and have them act as GM for the draft.

At this point I don’t think most people care that much about the Olympics so I get the NHL view, juniors international is interesting but doesn’t make sense for pros.
