Also it showcases how Steve managed to tick off the F1 duo - the two who keep telling him "aw you should watch F1" when he clearly didn't have any interest in it. Personally, I think he's right though. I think it should be a requirement at the end of a driving license (which is about ten years here) that in order to reapply, you take a test to see if you still know the rules of the road. The problem though is that North American society is so car dependent that there needs to be other ways in which other modes of transport can develop. It sounds like Adam can't function without a car, it would be what, a day to go through a quick recap over everything - if that offends him so much then he might want to see if those edibles are contributing to elevated levels of stress. (I guarantee if he thinks Steve is Stalin, he'd probably view me as Trotsky).
Steve’s absolutely right. 5 years is too frequent, but rules of the road change all the time. I asked my parents if they knew something was the law when I was learning to drive and they both said, “no, that’s not the law.” I was reading it from the damn book and they we’re arguing with me. The number of things people forget or never really learned is ridiculous when it comes to something that could effortlessly kill dozens of people.
@@Paltmonster Yeah, I was so confused on getting my license. I took the written test in 10th grade when I was 16 and then I skipped to getting a permit at 18. I took the driving test which was easy and then apparently, I can drive now.

There's actually a bylaw in Toronto that requires all residents or Buisness owners to remove snow from in front or behind their place of occupancy within 12 hours of any snow or icefall. Tape absolutely matters, but only in two ways, 1. where on your blade is taped, one common example is taping the toe, there is a huge difference between a taped and un-taped toe. 2. As mentioned if you tape in a way that affects how you old it. a knob is a decent example of this, or some people do the candy cane with a rolled up length of tape thing... more grip I guess. Also wax actually does an incredible job at keeping water and snow off your stick.
I've been watching this show religiously for 3 years and this right here is the best episode yet. So entertaining, you guys have amazing chemistry when you argue
Hi! Video game developer here, with regards to Jesse's hot take. The big reason you don't get that return period is exactly what mentioned. Most folks are gonna finish a game within 7 days. Which is why games have shifted to external purchases or long term play solutions like daily rewards. In addition some companies allow a 2 hour grace period where you can try a game. Additionally the games industry has been immune to inflation for about 30 years. A new game the year I was born could cost up to 100USD, looking at you Super Mario World. The fact that games have only gone up to 70USD is a miracle. The final reason is that compared to a movie, tv show, book, ect. games take YEARS to make. With all sorts of disciplines, plus these days launch is just step 1. If you want something less expensive you can always look to smaller developers, that may not be what you want but its an option.
Thats why I buy the standard game... yes it's still $65 but least its not $100 for gold. Or for when I had issues with CP2077 I got refunded via steam. Plus I'm not buying every game, I buy the games I like, maybe $200/yr in games. GTAV is still going strong because of the people playing it and rockstar doesn't have anything else, unlike EA that cans the servers after 8 years.. or makes you buy the remastered version. I have a stack of PC game CDs they still work without needing to be "online"
Jesse was also a little harsh on the EA stuff, the EA play trial is 10 hours as opposed to the 3 he mentioned. Also a year of EA play is $30 which all things considered isn’t a bad price
I feel like these guys need to discover some indie games. I spent under $10 American on a game called Vampire Survivors and have gotten 20 hours (and still climbing) of entertainment out of it. There's never been more options for gaming, and there's so many cheaper games that are just as entertaining as full priced ones.
Got a question for Steve about his HoF take: Should a player like ‘Tiger’ Williams be in the Hockey Hall of Fame. I think his name is more renowned than Henderson. Henderson is on display at the hall FOR that goal. His stick that scored the goal is on display. Does his whole career need to be laid out or just that one moment?
All in all they're paying way too much for food to complain buddy you're paying $25 bucks for a burger or 80 for a steak you're past being able to complain

57:21 a burger is like a coffee from Starbucks... you bury it in things and it covers up the taste and say wow that's an amazing experience for $12. My grandfather raised cattle for beef. There's a BIG difference between what goes into a "patty" and a thick Ribeye. Burgers need ingredients and fat (beef talo) to stay together... a steak doesn't and a McDouble... dude Jesse, that's not beef, no matter what the picture looks like
He kinda outed himself there lol. "McDouble" had me laughing, terrible terrible take lol. Hey more good food for the rest of us while he eats his goat cartilage or whatever the hell is in a McDouble.
42:00 - Most of Europe has mandatory re-testing for their drivers license. It's truly moronic that a North American drivers license is a lifetime appointment.
You can't have the "tomato is a fruit" argument during a debate about vegetables being bad if you're also including eggplant in the vegetable category. Eggplant is a fruit as well, and technically tomatoes and eggplants are both fruits and vegetables.
I gotta quell the baby carrot slander. Baby carrots are not genetically modified to be that shape. They are either 1. regular carrots harvested before they're fully grown, or 2. "baby-cut" carrots which are regular carrots cut to that shape. They are no different nutritionally to regular carrots.
Also genetically modified food is not evil. Hardly any food grown on farms is actually "GMO-free". If anything, genetically modified food has pretty-much only made food safer, more nutritious and more plentiful. It's just the process of planting the crops that have the properties we want over years
I'm told early-harvested carrots (not baby-cut) are more nutrient dense (like microgreens), but that's really only helpful for small children. Adults should just cut up a regular carrot and save some money.
This should be a yearly tradition. Let them vent from the year they had for our amusement. Then they can go enjoy the holidays and ignore us till the new sdpn season.
Yup, he's just admitting he has never had a proper steak. It's the same as the conversation on veggies, burger pattie vs a steak you would take the steak every time. It only becomes a marginal debate when you have a fully loaded burger.
59:21 I feel like this take should be in the NHL. Because as someone who watches and covers a ton of ECHL hockey. Fighting is very much still in there. In my opinion it happens way too much in the ECHL which is insane bc the league has rules that if you get 10 fighting majors in a season you begin to get game suspensions. For a league that doesn’t pay the players a ton to begin with; I thought those suspensions would scare off the fighters in the ECHL. It did not. On the team I cover we have 2 players whose game is mostly fighting and one of them wears an “A”

Jesse obviously didn't grow up in the 90's/early 00's where every tape/CD you buy is a mystery surprise aside from a song or two that played on the radio. And those things were NOT cheap back then.
its funny how the "you only like what's on it" rule applied for the vegetables but not during Jesse's burger argument. Also Jesse getting to use everything in the burger experience but not allowing for the same thing on the steak (demi glace, compound butter etc) was a little ridiculous
As a beef producer. Good steaks only come from young finished animals. Making them more of a commodity. Ground beef is from all the trimmings, and can be from any older animals. Like anything over 3 years becomes tough and virtually the whole animal is for ground beef. Meaning an 8 year old bull, weighing 2200lbs sells for around $1.00 a pound live. And yields 6-700lbs of ground beef. Same goes for any cows. They’re not suitable for roasts and steaks. That’s the price difference. ✌️
my hot take: vegetables don't exist and we should get rid of the category. Fruits, roots, legumes, and leaves. (Broccoli and cauliflower go here, they're in the same family as cabbage.) Nearly everything we consider a vegetable is a root, fruit or legeume. all that remains in leafy stuff. we only have vegetable as a category to separate sweet and savory things that grow, and most things that are "vegetables" aren't!! get rid of it.
Jesse, my brother, those smash burgers you’re saying are just as good as the best steaks are made from ground beef (mostly). Ground beef makes up approx. 200lbs of the beef you get from a single animal. On the other hand, each animal only has TWO tenderloin filets that probably make up 1-2lbs of the entire cow. And that is why they charge crazy money for the filet mignon at fancy restaurants. It’s because of the cut of the meat, and the yield from the animal! PS great episode, love the concept!! 💙
That burger vs steak argument was a scorching hot take and so incredibly wrong. Cook your own steak, you'll generally figure out how you like it and will enjoy it more than the average steakhouse. Burger is literally the meat no one would eat if it weren't ground into a plop. Also, all the sides you eat with a steak are way better than a burger's. I'm 100% convinced Jesse is either trolling or an unhuman body snatcher. Steve and Adam, don't take your eyes off him for a second.
Holy Molly we need hot takes recap. That was 2 weeks ago now anyone thought more about it or still feel the same or stronger. Jesse get a good steak?????
I think the Lindros thing is legit. We're not talking about some super mystical wrap technique. We're talking about a Hall Of Famer teaching a rank amateur how to not tape his stick like a rank amateur.
As a former junior goalie, goaltending is easily most difficult. You can do everything right and still get yanked in the first period. A half second lapse in judgement can lose a game, you might get to make 2 or 3 mistakes a game before you lose the net. Shutouts are significantly rarer than hat tricks for that reason. A goalie can steal a game his team had no right to win, a goal scorer can’t. Follow Steve’s example and get in the net Jesse, you’ll change your tune 😂
Adam's opening argument against the driver licence debate is that it is too tough a task to manage. The heart of Steve's argument is around safety through continuous education. When I was a kid, I would hear collision reports on the radio and would think "wow, another one." As an adult, I see how people drive and think "how are there not more collisions?" I like when Adam and Steve got heated about whether 2% of drivers were the problem. This is a silly way to look at it. Any one of 100% of people driving can have a bad day. And people still drive when they have a bad day because alternative modes of travel do not come to mind. It stands to reason then, that we are not trying to weed out a few bad apples, but rather a systemic problem. And that's where we need Steve's point.
One thing about the stick tape. If you tape it from heal to toe when you're shooting the puck it will ride "against the grain" when leaving your stick when it goes from the heal of the blade to the toe of the blade upon release.
Jesse agreeing with Steve about the bullshit driving test requirement makes sense since he's never left the confines of the GTA in his life and can just take albeit shitty public transportation everywhere.
No SHOT the at home experience is better then the in-person experience. When you are at the game it FEELS like hockey. When you watch it at home it feels like capitalism shoving commercials and ads down your throat.
Most fights are Austin Watson type fights. 2 guys spinning in circles, grappling, zero punches landing and then they fall down. I agree with Steve. Brady Tkachuk vs Jacob trouba at center ice throwing hay makers earlier in the season was such a treat. But it's so rare.
I loved live games at maple leaf gardens, the fans now are so quiet if you try to get loud and they tell you to be quiet the true fans that get loud are highest up seats.i loved being in the greys at the gardens it felt like you were closer to the ice even though you were in the greys.
Oilers fan here when you can see McDavid do McDavid things live there is nothing… nothing like it, you hold your breath and don’t believe your eyes and just shake your head in the awesomeness that is McDavid
Loved the episode while in Estonia! Please explain further the freezer pants @adam. I know you said you don't wear jeans often anymore. But what did you used to do and more importantly WHY???
Steak = processed ground meat is objectively worse for you, and perhaps you can't taste the difference as well as you think? Stick tape : different techinques make huge differences on grip and for goalies ability to pick the stick up off the ice. Blade taping less significant, but I agree with jesse that rituals in and of themselves are valuable to players.
I completely agree that people are a little nuts about taping their sticks... However: People waxed their sticks to keep ice from building up on the couple cents worth of crappy tape on their blade (not sure if this is still necessary with modern hockey tape though), goalies often have a big knob at the end of their stick so they have a stopper to keep the stick in their hand when doing pokechecks and a player with a big knob on the end of their stick can't handle the puck as well as someone without it because the proper grip of a hockey stick involves a sort of handshake grip with the very end of the stick around the middle of your palm... So it's not nearly as important as people make it out to be but there are plenty of reasons to care about how you tape your stick
Jesse idk if you will see this but the way my dad makes his steaks pound per price per flavor I think goes head to head with any burger regardless of price. We had just about 4 lbs of choice cut filet mignon (not top cut beef) and it was cooked perfectly and seasoned perfectly. It was a leaner cut than most cuts you find out there but regardless was really tender and soft. You don't need $200 to make a good steak. If you know how to grill properly and season your steaks, then your flavor journey can begin.
Yeah Jesse just lost all credibility with that garbage take. Just talking out of his ass about something he clearly know nothing about. Hmm kinda like the whole podcast... what a muppet
I gotta agree with Steve on the driving thing. Something people don’t understand is: driving is DANGEROUS. It’s a big responsibility every time you get behind the wheel. It should be more difficult to obtain a license than it currently is. I don’t know about every 5 years, maybe less often. I also see Adam’s point about the government and proving it with your driving record. Maybe a compromise would be harsher penalties for unsafe driving. Like speeding etc. not just getting a ticket, but also your license suspended for a certain amount of time. And I’ll be the one to say it: JESSE IS RIGHT ABOUT STEAK. Steak is good, but I would never pay more than $40 for one if I’m being honest. I’m not a huge burger fan, but if I’m being honest I usually prefer a chicken dish over steak. Overall I prefer poultry to beef or pork, like I’m also not a big bacon fan. It’s average at best
As a Penguins Fan, Steve Dangle is honestly one of the few people who respect Sidney Crosby the amount he really deserves. His game is far better than Ovechkins he’s better at everything else
With Steve's point about the hall of fame. They should have hall of fame moments, almost like how the UFC has hall of fame fighters but also it has hall of fame FIGHTS that may include a fighter that is not in the actual hall of fame. These players don't deserve the SAME recognition as the true greats of the sport but they do deserve some kind of recognition.
A big knob at the top of a goalie stick isn't only legal, it's required. From the NHL rules: Goalkeeper’s Stick - In the case of a goalkeeper’s stick, there shall be a knob of white tape or other protective material approved by the League. This knob must not be less than one-half inch (1/2”) thick at the top of the shaft.

✌️
Absolutely hilarious episode
And I agree with Steve about driving tests every 5 yrs. Absolute complete agreement
my hot take: vegetables don't exist and we should get rid of the category.
Omg I’m old and I’ve made that drivers license argument for decades. I’m with you Steve.
"People go..WHaaaAAAaaaAAA.. what is this...bullshit" 😆
Also I really enjoyed the holiday off topic of hockey episodes, great job on that content!
Steve doesn't bring up a Green Bell Pepper in this and I am shocked.
We need this SDPN!!!
When steve and adam were losing it on one another and jesse smile while watching i was in complete joy.
HUGE LIKE FOR THE DRIVING TEST HOT TAKE! Most people shouldn't get a licence in the first place.
I have been a fan of the Lightning since 1992. #1 reason, Manon Rheaume, inspirational. 100% agree with Steve's take.
I think the Lindros thing is legit. We're not talking about some super mystical wrap technique. We're talking about a Hall Of Famer teaching a rank amateur how to not tape his stick like a rank amateur.
40:59 I agree with Jesse’s point about don’t be angry that someone didn’t consume something but I am allowed to be surprised.
Lol I love the angry Steve rant about driving.
"It's a gazebo" I caught that Steve. Fuckin hilarious.
Great ep guys, you hit it out of the park with this one.
The still at 45:52. Jesse just laying back and assessing the argument lmao
Adam had the most BASED take about the government and adding more driving tests 😂😂
That was legitimately shocking from him of all people.
Eps. Triangle, all trivia, and hottakeapalooza. Are epic i need to finish most recent one
Jesse agreeing with Steve about the bullshit driving test requirement makes sense since he's never left the confines of the GTA in his life and can just take albeit shitty public transportation everywhere.
So far this ep and last 2 were the best
I guarantee that Adam has never had Punjabi eggplant bharta. That is one of the most delicious things I have eaten.
And Green Bell Pepper is the most disappointing vegetable. It pretends to be a pepper, but it tastes like grass rolled in a fart.
No SHOT the at home experience is better then the in-person experience. When you are at the game it FEELS like hockey. When you watch it at home it feels like capitalism shoving commercials and ads down your throat.
The driving license thing might be the first time I’ve ever agreed with Adam over Steve on anything.
adam bro.... you literally say goalscoring is the hardest so often
He does. Constantly.
That driving take from Steve is actually 100% correct. We need people to take more than 1 driving test in their entire lives.
You can return games on steam
Drivers should have occasional check ups to prove they are safe
But what did you used to do and more importantly WHY???
jesse missed his calling as a lawyer
Jesse wants free video games, got it. What an absurd take.
However:
People waxed their sticks to keep ice from building up on the couple cents worth of crappy tape on their blade (not sure if this is still necessary with modern hockey tape though), goalies often have a big knob at the end of their stick so they have a stopper to keep the stick in their hand when doing pokechecks and a player with a big knob on the end of their stick can't handle the puck as well as someone without it because the proper grip of a hockey stick involves a sort of handshake grip with the very end of the stick around the middle of your palm...
This was spicier than I thought it was going to be
With Steve's point about the hall of fame.
