The fact that the government is allowing this to go on at the suffering of these animals tells you everything you need to know about the state of any federal or provincial government in Canada these days.
@@basmentbois You do realize the population of Racoons and Squirrels are MILLION times larger than whales right? Literally the furthest animals from going extinct possible basically.
What's the point of opening at all? Are they that desperate for what little they'll get in admission costs? The remaining animals should be put under protective custody by a government agency, and said agency should work at finding new habitats for these animals, which Marineland should pay for. Just my opinion.
I think the point was funds to feed whatever animals cannot be rehabilitated to the wild like the marine mammals, since even if they are reintroduced they usually just die anyways. its not a win/win scenario.
@@dyllanweich I understand that the animals cannot be left to fend for themselves in the wild at this point. Hence why I said "finding new habitats", and not releasing them. Also, I would think that what little money they are generating these days would go towards any operating costs (which includes feeding the remaining animals). I have a relatively good idea how much the fish cost to feed the whales (if they're still buying the "fit for human consumption"). Not cheap (unless they changed to low quality fish).
When I was a kid in the 70s , it was called "Marineland and Game Farm". They had a petting zoo with small deer and goats. There were pens with antelopes and slightly more exotic herbivores, but the main attraction was the "Killer Whale". They had a few performing sea lions and dolphins, but everyone came to see the "Killer Whale". There were no amusement park rides. It's been proven that these marine mammals don't do well in captivity, so I think it's time to just shut the place down.
Marineland should be shut down for good. Let the animals live out the rest of their lives in a safe environment bc they all deserve it before more animals die
Yeah you can see this when you travel to Carribean and tropical countries. Nearly every tourist town has a captive dolphin expedition advertised within a half hour of your resort.
I hope they shut this place down along with the other places like this Canada and USA lots of things we don't hear or see about that happen sadly . These animals in all of these places deserve to be in ocean or wild yes things happen in ocean and wild I agree but I feel they are better out there then being In small tanks or enclosures being mistreated in harsh environments
I'm a local. I went there twice as a kid (both times it was on a school trip) and even then, before I knew about all the animal cruelty, I didn't think it was anything terribly special. Haven't been since and it baffles me how they have managed to stay open for the last 2 decades. It's long past time to do what my mom and I as well as many other locals have been saying for years: sell the place to an amusement park company who will ditch the animals and add more rides!
I’ve never been to Marine Land and I’ve always wanted to go, however after seeing the news one day, specifically: Ottawa, 6/10/19: Canada made history today with the passing of Bill S-203: Ending the Captivity of Whales and Dolphins Act. Bill S-203 will prohibit breeding, imports, exports and live captures of whales, dolphins and porpoises across Canada, building on Ontario’s Bill 80, which was passed on May 28, 2015. Now I don’t want to help fund this illegal operation!
They made billions of dollars over the years and the only upgrades we saw were new rides and different animals… the money never went into the animals welfare, well being and overall comfort… the amount of land that marineland owns vs how much they use is the biggest slap in the face on this planet. They have enough space to give the belugas a lake of their very own and then some but chose to keep them in decaying old bathtub sized pools… if you support this place… kick rocks … rip Kiska
Maybe they should turn this place into a Six Flags Park! They don’t need animals, they need more rides! SkyScreamer is my favorite. Plus it could be a good rival to Canada’s Wonderland.
It's under new management. They said the park is under transition. I did see where they said this was the last season but only heard it once. With so little to see & no rides they should have just left it closed until they did whatever is going to happen to the park. Splash pads can be found all over.
Then find a home for the Marine mammals left there who still need to be cared for, you cannot rehabilitate them, as proof shows, marine mammals who get rehabilitated after millions of dollars and effort are later found dead in the wild. That is also animal cruelty.
This is crazy. The Ontario Science Center was closed for a roof that could have been fixed easily but this privately owed business is being allowed to remain open after mistreating animals? So shady. Where is the government on this now?
I hope with the new owners they put the rest of the animals safely in a sanctuary as they can't be brought back into there natural habbitat and rename and or rebrand Marineland as an amusment/theme park and steer away from the wildlife. Because this place has so much potential and land that they can use without having to have animals as part of their attraction.
That’s funny but that $7m could have gone to relocating the animals; and yes, I know relocation-especially for the amount of animals this hole has costs way more. But it’s still something towards bettering these poor creatures.
Free Willy didn't work. None of these whales and dolphins can be returned to the wild. There is one example of trying and it ended badly after a great deal of time, effort and money.
Marineland should have 0 customers this year. Besides the animal cruelty (i dont mean that lightly) going to a 'park' with this little to do is not even a fun day out, now take into account the parks history ,what it has done to animals, and what is presently going on, its just baffling that it hasnt been shut down after this long. Release them. Shut Down.
@@seanwebb605 Industry here means, they use animals as entertainment. It certainly involves animal abuses. That industry has no future. They can use that place for animal sanctuary. Many zoos , aquariums around the world are moving that way.
@@heatherstarling1653 That's not an answer to the question. How do you fund the care of the animals that remain at the park? If you have some great relocation plan then how do you build your relocation facility and fund its operation?
How did no one force this place to close yet? There is now nothing to do except for watch a few poor belugas swim around in a crowded tank. No food, no rides, no shows, no nothing. I don't care if this place has new owners, I don't care if anyone is gonna try and flip this place around into something different. It will forever have a bad reputation and yeah even if they do try to make improvements, it will just be too late to win anyone back. I also propose please get the old commercials and all the commercials of Marine land from Canada off the goddamn Internet. No one needs to watch that anymore it’s horrific.
There are better places to go, Toronto Zoo for the animals and Canada’s Wonderland for rides. Many theme park enthusiasts rank Marineland as the worst theme park in North America.

@@CATSWITHKYLA Earth Why freeing Willy was the wrong thing to do By Catherine Brahic 28 April 2009 New Scientist. Science news and long reads from expert journalists, covering developments in science, technology, health and the environment on the website and the magazine. Keiko, star of Free Willy, in playful mood (Image: Sam Barcroft/Rex Features) Keiko, star of Free Willy, in playful mood Willy was never really free. The killer whale star of the Hollywood movie Free Willy had to be cared for by humans even after he was released and he never successfully integrated with his wild kin. Researchers now say attempts to return him to the wild were misguided. “We believe the best option for [Willy] was the open pen he had in Norway, with care from his trainers,” says Malene Simon of the Greenland Institute of Natural Resources, who participated in efforts to reintegrate the cetacean in the wild and is lead author of the study. “He could swim as much as he wanted to, had plenty of frozen herring - which he was very fond of - and the people that he was attached to kept him active.” The killer whale, whose real name was Keiko, died in December 2003, at about 26 years old. Despite efforts to integrate him with wild killer whales in Iceland towards the end of his life, he proved unable to interact with them or find food. Advertisement “While we as humans might find it appealing to free a long-term captive animal,” the researchers say in the paper, “the survival and well-being of the animal may be severely impacted in doing so.” The only cetaceans that have successfully been returned to the wild have been young and only kept in captivity for short periods. The team’s comments contradict those made by members of the Free Willy-Keiko Foundation, who declared in 2003 that his case had challenged the perception that whales cannot be returned to the wild. But Simon’s account of Keiko’s last few years shows just how unsuccessful his release was.
We also don't have freak shows, or slave fights or public executions anymore either. The world of humans moves on, it always has and it always will right up until we strip mine and pollute ourselves into extinction.
True, but look at how many still defend the past or even atrocities in the present. That will be our great filter and all that will be left are stains like Marineland and all the fighting against progress.

Use to go here on the 90s as a kid a lot. Place really turned into a dump , close the park. Either sell the land or make a water park or something like that
Nothing but a field of sadness but the sadness costs money. Happy commercials don't fix being mean to animals. How is this still allowed. Not a good place for kids.
They opened this place not only later than usual, but also with only the Beluga exhibits, no dolphin show but dolphins being shown regardless, and the Arctic Splash water park........but leave everything else closed? Why open this place at all when only those three attractions are offered? What is going on with this place?
Great comments below! Animals should not be exploited. Now, if we could just get people to extend this courtesy to also stop eating animals. If not, we may as well be eating Dolphins.
At this point you’re better off building one jumbo-sized Costco if you’ve taken out all of the joy and awesomeness of what makes the park so fun to go to. I might be a weirdo but I actually really liked going to Marineland as a kid back in the early 2010s and found the experience to be pretty memorable but now the place is on life support. This is murder!
I never liked it the 2 times I went in the 90s as a kid. Something just felt "off" about the place and even at 9 years old I didn't like how the deers, bears and whales were treated. The tanks were small and even though it was busy there it had a weird empty feel when walking through the park.
Well this makes sense, close down the Science Centre which many people love and would actually want to visit and instead reopen the one place in Ontario which less people would want to visit.
I hope that some investor can buy this place up, fix it up, free all of the animals, and turn it into a SOLE amusement park! It’s a lot of space and I hope it can be put to good use!
You know, SeaWorld had similar controversy back in 2013, but unlike MarineLand, they have found a new audience and let go from its past emphasis on animal tricks. SeaWorld is really doubling down on roller coasters and non-animal based attractions. MarineLand needs to take some notes from the other parks and end all the animal tomfoolery. If it requires a rebranding or renaming, so be it. As long as both sides including the animals are on good terms.
Why that many Beluga's I bet they were sold from near Churchil or Norway. They have companies that specialize in un scarred specimens for display racket.
They were boycotted and lost a lot of revenue. They had legal battles and it cost them a fortune. No wonder they cannot properly look after all the animals, the rides, and the grounds. I think they’re under new management who are putting all they can into the wellbeing of the animals. No more animal shows. The tanks are an exhibit now. They need a proper GoFundMe at this point! 🐬
This place used to be amazing so sad I hope stuff like this never happens again in Canada yes preserve wild life to educate people but do it properly by just leaving them in the wild
I remember going there in the 70s as a kid and their big performer was an Orca name Shammoo. I went back around 2005 with my little boys and in a pretty small tank there was a big orca just floating there not swimming. I asked an employee what was going on with that orca and she said....oh thats Shammoo he's retired. Doesnt perform anymore. So its appears basically when they retire from performing they stick them in a small tank too small to really even swim and they float there until they die. We were disgusted and left

Alot of times ofc not all zoos take i endangered animals or injured ones unable to return to the wild. While it may not be as big and wonderful as the wild I think theres been alot put in to ensure the care of animals in need@VoidHalo
@@Hulachowdown No there aren't. All zoos are bad, they all thrive on the exploitation and imprisonment of animals. You know, there used to be human zoos and I guarantee people said the same thing about some of those human zoos; "there are some good human zoos". All zoos are bad. Stop spreading misinformation and lies
The fact that the government is allowing this to go on at the suffering of these animals tells you everything you need to know about the state of any federal or provincial government in Canada these days.
"These days" we'll just ignore the passivity of the last 60 years of government too?
Meanwhile racoon and squirrels getting road killed everyday but no one cares cause it's not a whale
@@basmentbois You do realize the population of Racoons and Squirrels are MILLION times larger than whales right? Literally the furthest animals from going extinct possible basically.
Those animals arent held in a cage and make their own free will @basmentbois
It's not possible to return them to the wild.
I’d like to know who these people are who showed up, and what motivates them to support Marine Land.
Immigrants who don't know better and tourists are the majority of Marineland's customers
They literally don't care and turn a blind eye, as long as their kids have fun
non-vegans. The fact they already support animal cruelty with every single meal, they don't see anything wrong with this
The durr crowd.

Turn this land into a giant amusement park. It has no future with animals!
Cedar Fair bought out Six Flags. LOL😂
They wont build another park in between 2 parks they own to compete with each other in that close proximity
@@carlosribeiro3821Which is a real shame because Canada's Wonderland desperately needs competition
It's under new management. They said the park is under transition. I did see where they said this was the last season but only heard it once. With so little to see & no rides they should have just left it closed until they did whatever is going to happen to the park. Splash pads can be found all over.
Oh wow! An amusement park without rides! Sounds so much fun. Seriously though, how his this place still operating?
Attractions like Marineland are from another age. I`m no Liberal hippy and even I can see that. Shut it down.
my opinion is , no zoos should exist, wild animals need to be in their natural habitat.
Close this down now animal abuse
Then find a home for the Marine mammals left there who still need to be cared for, you cannot rehabilitate them, as proof shows, marine mammals who get rehabilitated after millions of dollars and effort are later found dead in the wild. That is also animal cruelty.
This is crazy. The Ontario Science Center was closed for a roof that could have been fixed easily but this privately owed business is being allowed to remain open after mistreating animals? So shady. Where is the government on this now?
Because Doug Ford wanted to sell the Science Centre land to his buddies
And that’s the way it should be. Keeping animals in captivity for human entertainment is wrong and I immoral
Go to Tadoussac Quebec and see the belugas in their natural habitat. You can even see the babies from the shoreline!
Whats the point of keeping it open if there’s literally nothing to do there 💀
No animals and no rides? what's left? mini donuts? or have they cut those as well?
Mini donuts and funnel cakes.... 😋
No food LOL
Haha driving out to eat mini donuts in a parking lot. The highlight of the summer! 🎉
Global news, define ‘without’ and ‘animal’, please.
That empty splash pad cost 7 million to build😂
Christ
That’s funny but that $7m could have gone to relocating the animals; and yes, I know relocation-especially for the amount of animals this hole has costs way more. But it’s still something towards bettering these poor creatures.
Close it down, and free Willy.
Free Willy didn't work. None of these whales and dolphins can be returned to the wild. There is one example of trying and it ended badly after a great deal of time, effort and money.
Stop exploiting animals for money and " fun" ! 😢
🤔 The people who charged Marineland with animal cruelty should be monitoring every frigging move they make with the remaining animals, right?!
Shut Down.
Shut it down now!
This industry has No future . Close it already.

The reality of the situation is that they don't belong in tanks, and these places don't want to even try to release them, because they are making tons of money off them and if one survives and does well with release.... then they won't be able to say that it's not a good idea to release them because they won't survive. Why freeing Willy was the wrong thing to do

Keiko, star of Free Willy, in playful mood
Willy was never really free.
“He could swim as much as he wanted to, had plenty of frozen herring - which he was very fond of - and the people that he was attached to kept him active.”
The killer whale, whose real name was Keiko, died in December 2003, at about 26 years old. Despite efforts to integrate him with wild killer whales in Iceland towards the end of his life, he proved unable to interact with them or find food.

“While we as humans might find it appealing to free a long-term captive animal,” the researchers say in the paper, “the survival and well-being of the animal may be severely impacted in doing so.” The only cetaceans that have successfully been returned to the wild have been young and only kept in captivity for short periods.
That will be our great filter and all that will be left are stains like Marineland and all the fighting against progress.
ill always have deep nostalgia for the Marineland commercials every summer... as a kid i got so excited whenever the commercial aired because i knew it signaled the start of summer 😭. Sad to see how poorly the animals were treated
Why on earth would u go here anyway waste of time and money
They opened this place not only later than usual, but also with only the Beluga exhibits, no dolphin show but dolphins being shown regardless, and the Arctic Splash water park........but leave everything else closed?
Why open this place at all when only those three attractions are offered? What is going on with this place?
then whats the point
Better to go to Centreville. It’s charming little place that’s perfects for kids and adults. Beautiful parkland in a lovely island setting.
Not enough ferries running to handle demand.
They need to improve and update this place Seriously this place is very outdated
With no rides or animals..... What is the point?
As far as closing it.... Unfortunately, you can't release those animals back into the wild...
Rebrand, keep the rides and scrap the enclosures? Seems pretty simple
Marine land was never really known for rides barely has any.
Great comments below! Animals should not be exploited. Now, if we could just get people to extend this courtesy to also stop eating animals. If not, we may as well be eating Dolphins.
I've tried dolphin. It's alright 😒
I agree, but unfortunately people do eat dolphin, it’s called mahi mahi 😢
No point keeping it around everything's being taken down and out only thing left are the animals
so pointless
Basically, it's a park with nothing to do. They might as well just shut it down forever.
Well this makes sense, close down the Science Centre which many people love and would actually want to visit and instead reopen the one place in Ontario which less people would want to visit.
I love nostalgia. But marine land is one thing from my childhood i want to see gone forever
I hope that some investor can buy this place up, fix it up, free all of the animals, and turn it into a SOLE amusement park! It’s a lot of space and I hope it can be put to good use!
I can understand the animals but why shut down the rides?
You know, SeaWorld had similar controversy back in 2013, but unlike MarineLand, they have found a new audience and let go from its past emphasis on animal tricks. SeaWorld is really doubling down on roller coasters and non-animal based attractions. MarineLand needs to take some notes from the other parks and end all the animal tomfoolery. If it requires a rebranding or renaming, so be it. As long as both sides including the animals are on good terms.
Why that many Beluga's I bet they were sold from near Churchil or Norway. They have companies that specialize in un scarred specimens for display racket.
Really sad they ended up changing. I won't be going there anymore.
the only fish that should be on display are small aquarium type fish ..if they are properly cared for
I don't think they can even keep a gold fish alive.....
They mine as well close this place down and redo it as a regular amusement park with actual attractions not acres and acres of empty land
What a dump
They were boycotted and lost a lot of revenue. They had legal battles and it cost them a fortune.
No wonder they cannot properly look after all the animals, the rides, and the grounds.
I think they’re under new management who are putting all they can into the wellbeing of the animals. No more animal shows. The tanks are an exhibit now.
They need a proper GoFundMe at this point! 🐬
This place used to be amazing so sad I hope stuff like this never happens again in Canada yes preserve wild life to educate people but do it properly by just leaving them in the wild
everyone loves marine land! Just not the dolphins and whales
and bears
Just close it down and replace it with an amusement park like Cedar Point or a nature reserve
Turn it into a water park, with aquariums around the property, get the rides going and better. Put up a bandshell and have summer concerts. Tourists would still come.
What do you mean you don't know what happened to the bears😮😮!!
