    What an absolutely horrific death this is. Thanks to these men who risk their lives to rescue others who are just trying to make a living.

    At the top could they not put a grid with gaps for the grain to fit through but small enough that no one can fall through

      @@laurenanderson7330if someone falls in they can’t sink any lower than the grid. and because it holes it would have a minimal effect of the volume* of grain that can be stored. just a safety precaution.

    seems like there'd be a simple solution to grain bin accidents.. just simply have metal grating 2-3 feet below the top or whatever, so grain can still fall/pour through, but if someone manages to be inside when the grain flows, at least they will only be sucked down to their knees and able to escape.

      Because they need to be able to break up clumps and establish flow at any level of fulness, not just at the top of the silo.
      Plus breaking up clumps well enough for an auger to work is a very different task than breaking up every single little clump small enough to fall through a grate.
      The only way your idea would work is if there were grates at knee depth from each other all the way down the silo, and in that case it would take exponentially longer to empty the grain because you'd have to address every clump at every grate level by hand rather than break things up enough to get it flowing knowing the movement and the auger will continue to break up clumps as it empties.

    • @crd7876
      @crd7876 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      No, people panicking in it will sink deeper regardless if its on and create air pockets below, the issue isnt if its flowing, that just makes it a lot worse.

    • @bhuff8695
      @bhuff8695 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Panic has nothing to do with it. you can walk in grain without sinking past knee depth. You should never be in a grain bin with discharge equipment running. Grain bins empty from the top down thru the center column that develops as grain flows.

      You can do it 100 times with it on before you finally end up getting sucked in one day. Many of the victims have a false sense of security because theyve done it many times before.
