Dumpsters at construction sites have tons of wood in them headed for landfills that can be used. I have pulled wood from them to build planters in my yard.

Nice video! 👍🏼 Wood is 3x more expensive now.. so knowing people helps! I’d say it’s best to buy your own tools. Saws, drills, rivet gun, etc... our drills were brand new and will need replaced when we’re done. You will need the tools down the road or doing the work for a year so renting would cost much more and destroying friends tools isn’t cool.
I’d recommend buying everything in bulk.. screws, rivets, drill bits, angle grinding discs, caulking, sealants, construction adhesives, foam board adhesive. It’s way cheaper and saves trips to the store in the end.
Buy the highest quality bits.. will save much time and money and work. Every build is different. I’d say a berkey filter is a huge waste of money and space. You can either diy that or get under sink filters that are much cheaper and space saving. If you’re on a budget, maybe just do a generator until you can afford solar. Another good tip is trading things for getting work done. The skoolie community is amazing, and so is the normal community that is fascinated by bus building! We’ve traded a old iPhone for a $400 propane tank, gave away all the old seats in exchange for a guy to cut all our window skins, trading those windows for live edge countertops! Traded my truck for $10k of electrical work! I’d note it’s not as easy as youtubers make it out to be and definitely not as cheap as they make it out to be. We will be in at about $25k total which is a lot but not too bad. Inflation will be a killer in the next couple years too. Safe travels✌🏼

Great points! Thanks for sharing this ideas and personal insights ✨ like you said every build is different and that is why it’s so important to decide and honor your personal priorities!
We should have been more clear because we agree that some tools you for sure what to have like drills and such but we meant more like table saw, grinders and such!
Love the idea of trading! We did something similar for our electrical system and some mechanic work! Again, thanks for sharing all of this info!!

Your tips and tricks and budgets have come in handy for my shuttle conversion! My husband feel less stress when I tell him we don't have to have this done tomorrow its not a race! It is going to take us a year or two to get rid of all the crap one can posses over 20 years lol but loving all your videos I hope you had a great Anniversary! ❤Much Love & hugs to Kiki❤

Thank you so much for sharing this with us Carla!! No race at all! It will save you money and a whole lot of stress to do it at your own pace! The downsize process is so chaotic upon itself and so so long doing it little by little helps a ton!

Hello Tim! We actually found our bus locally on the side of the road with a For Sale sign. Lots of our friends, however, suggest Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist’s!
