Omg, I can't believe you actually did this back in 2017. I completed a similiar set up with a 2.5 gallon jug of water to a USB powered pump, then I connect the pump to a garden hose and that's all. Battery power, mobility, leak proof, and small foot print. The most difficult part was finding something to connect between the pump and the garden hose without leaking and I used a O-ring in the 3/4 to 1/2 adapter and it did the job. I'm so thankful that technology came a long way and people out there actually thought of way to make our life easier ;)
Pro Tip, when using that metal clamp, put some electrical tape or cut a 1" of the hose cut a slice in it, and wrap it around the existing hose so that it won't eat through the hose and cause a leak.
There is simply no other way to say it...This gentleman is a expert on the subject of car camping in a Toyota Prius. Period. The videos are done with a true understanding of knowledge and experience and thought. Five star rating 🌟.
Vanlife is my someday dream, but I have absolutely NO skills except for sewing and I want to self-build if I can. I have watched a million videos to get the how-to of what I want to do. This is exactly it! And you have put into such perfect layman's direction that even this old lady can do it. This set up is perfect for how I want my fold away shower. Now hopefully I can find a video to help me incorporate the exact same idea into just a home made copper pipe sink faucet with a with just a garden hose hand turn valve - I have no idea how to work the mechanics of that! Thank you so much for doing this video!!!
Than you for showing the process in such detail. Seeing the potential problems at each step, and how to counter them, really makes this accessible to viewers with no experience. Your Prius and other expertise and teaching ability are outstanding. 👍👍
I have been researching different water system setups for camping / boondocking & this 5yr old video popped up in recommended, which is by far the best one I have seen. I am rolling with this setup. The pressure is what sold me. Outstanding bro this is brilliant👋👋👋
Did you seal the top opening of the water container? Don't. If you do, a vacuum will be created in the container, which will collapse the walls. Instead, insert a piece of tube as a snorkel so that air still can go inside. The height of the snorkel will prevent water from spilling out.
Just watched two of your videos and like how you show each and every part you are using and where you got them, they were easy to follow and that is great for some of us older campers. Thanks
II am impressed with your ingenuity, so I subscribed! Using a hair dryer to soften the hose is a good idea. When working on my yard drip system, I soften my 1/2" and 1/4" drip hose in hot water in a tea kettle to get it to go onto barbed connectors without a struggle. Squeezing the hose onto the barbs makes a better connection, but I need to wear a glove to protect my hand from getting burned.
Excellent ideas and a well explained video. I see this was made about 3 years ago. Would you mind doing an update to let us all know how your invention worked, and if you made any changes? Thanks!
Dude, you are brilliant! You've earned a subscription from me. I'm going to try this for my SUV camping conversion. Now I'm excited to watch more of your videos.
@@timdillen i think I will have fun doing it. But even more fun using it afterwards. :) There are just so many possibilities that it's hard deciding exactly what to do.
I love your way of explaining, your voice is very clear and the filming is great. I am in the process of several projects getting ready to go on, you have helped me to see what I need to get to get my submergible pump going.
I've watched a few of your videos, and I'm so impressed by your thoughtful attention to design and rigorous testing! Thanks for sharing your process in such helpful detail. Keep up the great work!
Thank you!! This helped me with some road blocks I was facing. I built the same thing except I used a kitchen sprayer with a brass quick disconnect instead of the hose attachment. I have everything hooked up to two 6 gal water jugs with quick disconnects that I modified to lay down in the spare tire bay of my Grand cherokee.
GREAT Idea; project which resulted in a VERY NICE boon-docking necessity for cleanups and a convenient shower. Also, your Vid is well presented step by step and what to anticipate resulting in your message being clearly received. Too many times other channels are NOT well thought out losing confusing the viewer. Thx for Sharing and I look forward to many many more. :))
Thank you for your kind comments. This turned out to be a great little modular system that is easy to put in other vehicles. I try to be detailed but sometimes I get engrossed in a project and forget to stop and include everyone. Glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching!
I just came across your TH-cam Channel as I own a 2007 Toyota Prius. I was going to BUY a Honda Element for camping and now I don't need to! This has been a total game changer this Saturday Morning. If I can do what you have done I am SET!! Thank you so much for posting these videos. I don't know how the electrical works with this Prius so I am going to have to learn, but thank you.
Jessica Sampson I’m so glad I could help! They sure don’t give you much for trade in on a gen 2 Prius that’s for sure. The Prius would be a cheap way to get started. The Element is great for space but I love getting the crazy good mpg. Thanks for your kind comments and for watching!
I am learning so much, the reason I am so excited is because I love the Prius mpg and what it can do, and I don't even know everthing yet, but I will learn and this is exciting. Thank you for responding and I look forward to seeing all you have accomplished with your prius, this is a whole new world.
I like the way you do your conversions and how you actually put the finishing touches to your work. Have been following your channel for a few of your videos now. Great videos.
I thought about the same thing. This one is modular and can fit in odd places by selecting any type of container available. The pump fits in small places too. Glad you liked the video, thanks for your comments and for watching!
Great lubes for pushing on the tube is either vaseline (or lithium grease) or temporary slippery is Windex. Ammonia is basic (opposite of an acid), a property of bases is they are slippery--however, when it dries it's no longer slippery. With ammonia or Windex, there's usually not much residue left, so it won't get slippery again if gets wet. I don't know if it would be good for drinking water, but for this I wouldn't hesitate. Nice project. Thanks for being our guinea pig...
If you didn't want to have two sprayers...What about just taking the outdoor spray nozzle off and stick it in something to catch or absorb the water left in its head, then just turn the flow regulator to closed. Then all you have to do is put that spray nozzle back on and adjust the flow regulator to allow flow again. A great product for camping fixes is Sugru. If you don't know about it , you can get ideas online. We love it. That is what we'd try for dealing with the spaces in the lid / hose. Thanks again. Now back to finishing watching the rest of the video.😁
Greater Alexander This turned out really well. I am adapting this to another vehicle and it’s easy since it’s small, modular and scalable. I think you will like it. Thanks for your kind comments and for watching!

There is a better idea and save all the building. Submersible pump with a shower head or kitchen sink head. Charges with USB car charger. $30. Drop it in any container and push button to start.
does it maintain pressure when you raise the nozzle? I am considering this pump to make an outdoor shower on my camper, it would have about 6 feet of head though.
m setting up my van and bought the same pump maybe a size bigger. My application is for a mini kitchen and regular house faucet. Im hung up on the on/off switch. It doesn't appear that you have a on/off switch in this video and my question is do you need one? Does the pump regulate on automatically on the faucet is turned on? Thanks in advance for you response and time. (Equip seaflow self priming pump, 7 gallon water jug)
Hi Novice DIYer here and your video is giving me light. regarding the water pump, can you leave it plug for a long time as long as batttery would support it? I am wondering if there is a max time to leave the pump plugged in before it overheats. I really do not have an idea how the camper water pump works. Thanks for the help!
Glad you are finding the videos helpful! The pump can remain plugged in and won't draw down the battery. It might have an LED light on the plug but that would be very minimal and not impact power. I like to turn it off or unplug just in case it gets triggered going down the road!
If you want warm water you could always run some tubing inside a black plastic bag in the sun on your roof and cycle it back in to the water container or heat up a quart of water and dump it back in the container. The one thing about having stuff under the seat on the floor its great in the summer for keeping food and water from getting hot even when the car is 120 degrees inside it very insulated area.
Can this pump be submersed? I saw a different project that did that. Seems like a great way to guarantee no leaking and make the whole thing more contained. I ask because I wasn’t impressed by the pressure created by the pump in that video.
Can you share if you have to have your Engine running to work this setup? If your 12V runs while car is off how much battery does it pull? If my Jeep has to be running are their any ways to change that?
The filter would be a good idea if you will be places you are not sure about the water quality. If you do, make sure it is easy to get to to replace. I just didn’t have the room. I don’t drink the water in the bin, I bring bottled water. I put a little bleach in each jug just to make sure nothing grows in the system. Thanks for your comments and for watching!
Very cool, were you able to seal up the hose that enters the water jug the round hose to the square fitting where it doesn't splash water out in your car?
The imperfect fruitarian Thanks for your kind comment. I imagine some things could pull on the battery so I installed an energy monitor. I unplug everything else and see if there is any draw. The pump does not pull power when up to pressure but I unplug anyway if not going to use for a while just to be safe, for now. Thanks for watching!
Had trouble with the pump. Not enough pressure for my hose sprayer seemingly. Plus the usual leak around the water hose fitting. Nothing new there. My simple project took more time than I thought. Lol. Need to do more research. Not sure how to install the shutoff switch to an existing lead either.
Would this work with a 5 gallon jug? Traveling with 2 people and a dog who need to shower. Also wondering with the sink sprayer in use how many minutes do you have approximately before the water tank is empty?
The 2 gallon jug will fit in the setup shown in the video next to the Dometic (behind passenger seat). A 5 gallon jug would not fit unless you put the cooler somewhere else then you have room for probably 10 gallons. 5 gallons should be fine for 2 people to take a shower with the sink sprayer. If you use a garden sprayer on the Mist setting you might be more efficient but might take some getting used to but you can always change the setting on the sprayer to what works. I would test both the sink sprayer and garden spray beforehand and see what works for you. It also may be worth getting the 5 gallon solar water bag to heat the water and then pour back into the container for a pressurized shower. I haven't tested how many continuous minutes of water I can get out of the 1 gallon jug - that would be good to know. I will have to try that out but it's terrible cold today. Thanks for your questions and for watching!
Thanks so much for your replys!! Not sure we will need the fridge so a larger water tank might work. I was trying to figure out how to get the water warm I like the idea of the solar bags.
Glad you liked the video. The pump in this video needs 12 volts, the USB bank puts out only 5 volts so it would not work. I am not aware of a pressure switched pump that runs on 5 volts but there might be one out there. Thanks for your question and for watching!
I noticed the way you got your power from inside the center console. My consul will not open without sliding the lid backwards. I went to the Toyota dealer and they said that there was no way to overcome that problem. I am willing to bet that you can figure it out if anyone can.
£20 for the same pump at Amazon Prime in the UK... there is another Seaflo that *looks identical* for £14 Prime, but is a lower PSI/flow rate, which might be OK for some? Ordering the bigger of the two today. Thanks, great video!!
Awesome! Let me know how it turns out. I really like how I can use hose attachments for showing and rinsing off car. Thanks for you comment and for watching!
I love your videos, would you be willing to make me one of these and include the extra water bottle. If so would you message me how much along with parts labor and shipping. I would love one of these for my car.

Can this pump be submersed? I saw a different project that did that. Seems like a great way to guarantee no leaking and make the whole thing more contained. I ask because I wasn’t impressed by the pressure created by the pump in that video.

This is the best way I have found to heat the water - works pretty well but needs direct sun. a.co/iaKxPjt
It doesn't work very well as a shower - you have to hang a very very very heavy bag on something way over your head and the nozzel isn't that great.

Glad you liked the video. The pump in this video needs 12 volts, the USB bank puts out only 5 volts so it would not work. I am not aware of a pressure switched pump that runs on 5 volts but there might be one out there. Thanks for your question and for watching!
PriusStealthCamper Adventures thank you.
You could get a 12 volt cup heater that you drop into a cup of water if you really need to heat the water for a shower. Just a thought.
I noticed the way you got your power from inside the center console. My consul will not open without sliding the lid backwards. I went to the Toyota dealer and they said that there was no way to overcome that problem. I am willing to bet that you can figure it out if anyone can.
Strong work
You could always keep a baby diaper underneath , just in case it decides to leak when you have it in your car.
Yup, you need an inlet vent in your water tank to let air in as the pump sucks out water.
How is the system working now
I love this Idea
It has come in very handy and is easily portable for other uses. Glad you liked it and thanks for watching!
Can ppl hire u to do this for 'em?
Raina Fortini Hehe! I wouldn’t want them to miss out on all the fun! Thanks for the vote of confidence!
Mine does not turn on🤦♀️ does the 12v cable have to have a switch
So cool!
Thanks! Very compact and can easy to move.
PriusStealthCamper Adventures I've wanted one for the longest time. Like the Prius V but not as stealhty.
My UK Amazon Prime is quoting £29.99 for Water Pressure Pump - SEAFLO 12V 1.0 GPM 40 PSI (31st Jan 2018)
I love your videos, would you be willing to make me one of these and include the extra water bottle. If so would you message me how much along with parts labor and shipping. I would love one of these for my car.
You can put the piping in hot water to soften it can't you?
I think that would be a better way to do - thanks for the tip and for watching!
@@timdillen No worries and thanks for posting 😊👍
