I would have failed a test of this a few years ago. It's insane how adapted my ears have gotten to this level of grammar. I haven't listened to one of these videos since maybe 2016 and the difference now is crazy. I can turn this on and just follow the stories without hesitation, unlike Banana Moon Gold where I'm lucky to get a 5 sentence combo. Listening practice is the most discouraging and I am naturally bad at it compared to people who grew up with anime.I never felt like I've made any real progress until right now.
@Inigo is it accurate compared to other resources? I've been thinking about learning Japanese and I really want to make sure all the pronunciations are right so I don't sound like an idiot if I ever visit Japan.

Will continue later on. If you want to learn it quick, everyday ir every 2 days try to learn 20 to 40 words and watch anime/japanese shows/japanese dramas. Really helps. Hell my little sister when she was 4 learnt english cause she watched nickelodeon without subtitles and constantly asked what certain words mean

My brother studied languages at the Defense Language Institute Foreign Language Center in California. The pace of study was intense. Students had to master the language course in 36-64 weeks. Psychologically it was very difficult, but fortunately he was helped by Yuriy Ivantsiv's book "Polyglot Notes. Practical tips for learning foreign languages”. The book " Polyglot Notes" became a desk book for my brother, because it has answers to all the problems that any student of a foreign language has to face. Thanks to the author of the channel for this interesting video! Good luck to everyone who studies a foreign language and wants to realize their full potential!
Thanks for this material! I always prefer studying conversations rather than single sentences. I'm a beginner and I'm writing everything down to practice (I'm one of those people who find it easier to learn things by writing them down). I'm also changing kana for kanji when appropriate. I've also noticed the translation is not always literal. For example, I've just started the video and I noticed that they translate はい、さとうクリニックです as "Hello, how can I help you?" ( 1:46 ) when they are actually saying "Hello, this is Satou clinic" (that is what I understand). So for a beginner there is a risk that they would try to understand what part of さとうクリニックです actually means "how can I help you", when it does not.
Yes, and there are many more subtle things that are harder to catch. Not sure why they do it this way. Very happy for the material but the english translation at times confuses me more than it helps.
I have been learning Japanese for three weeks. I know hiragana and katakana(though my ability to read hiragana is much better), I have been studying vocab, grammar, and conversations through books and Mango(website), and I just got my kanji book in the mail today. The first time I listened to this I couldn't understand anything, but today I understand the majority of the first conversation minus the part between the woman saying "excuse me" and the guy talking. After that conversation to about 8:43, I switch between being able to understand certain words in a conversation and guess the answer right and not understanding anything. To everyone who is discouraged in their language learning journey, every time you learn a new word or practice, you are moving in the right direction! I quit Japanese at least two times because the writing systems intimidated me. Now I have stuck with self studying a language longer than I ever had. On a side note: Right now I know a lot of words, but I still find structuring sentences hard and listening. I only recently learned in a video that Spanish is the second fastest language to Japanese! What advice do you have to increase my understanding and speaking? I can't fly to Japan and I don't know anyone.

This really helps to practice my listening skills since my strength is mostly visual. I've been using pimsleur for about 3 months and I'm already seeing improvements! I highly suggest the program if anyone is struggling with listening and speaking.

so im basically studying japanese for almost 2 years now, all by myself and mostly with books or sometimes i call with japanese or meet them if possible. it it is still really hard for me to understand it but most of the time i guessed right. Wow. My listening skills between when I started listening to this in December has jumped over 50 percent. Some of the conversations I get 80 to 90 percent, some I still need to improve on. But seeing the change is very motivating. I look forward to see were my skills are in another 3 months! Arigato gozaimasu!

Thanks for the video, its good practice. I want to make the suggestion that you include the hiragana/katakana characters with all the videos, not just the begginer level ones. Without telling me what anything actually means, frequent program blips, and just making it impossible to overview certain parts. It is generally used as a possessive particle when connecting nouns to one another, but it is also used as an “-ing” particle, like ことorもの. I totally understand why it is so difficult, I still struggle sometimes. However, time and listening will be key! Good luck!
Japanese particles are a bit difficult sometimes. In my opinion if you're serious about improving Japanese language, read books or watch TH-cam specifically discussing about particles, so many out there.
Really like the videos :) But some of the translations are a bit loose especially for language learners. E.g. 新しいのと古いのは、近くない方がいいですよね。 was translated as: "Okay, then, I think we should put it on the other side of the room." In the context of the dialogue this might be correct but this is actually not the real translation. Something like: "Okay then, the new one shouldn't be near the old one" would be better, I think. Maybe it would be better to stay a bit closer to the literal translations but this is just a suggestion :)
You must have only listened to the first few beginner conversations. No way in hell you can understand the N3-N2 stuff that come in the later parts of the video with just Genki.
@@SilverArro I said I can understand most of this, not all. Also, people learn differently. I'm pretty good with languages and once I learn the basics, I pick up the language quickly. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to but that's the truth.
@@AnaSnowWhite I don’t believe you. I also pick up languages quickly and I am perfectly willing to believe you could understand the first half hour of this video from just Genki. I repeat, there is no way in hell you could understand the latter half of the video from just Genki. Those conversations use an abundance of grammar and vocabulary you would not have encountered, and it’s not stuff you can just intuitively grasp upon a first listening lol. So either, you did a lot more than just self-studying Genki, or you didn’t listen to more than 30 minutes of this video, or you’re a liar. Take your pick. It’s so weird to me that Japanese, more than any other language, attracts self-learners who are so eager to rate their skill far higher than it really is. I see it all the time.

just listening to podcasts in another language really help learning new words and phrases

I was able to understand most of it. I couldn’t get the whole sentences, but I caught a few words here and there and was able to put them together!

I studied the dialogs one sentence at a time. I would become familiar with each word in the sentences and listen to each sentence several times.
i had no plans of learning to speak japanese but now i have to finish what I started or i will regret it later.
4 minutes in and I realize just how much that Rosetta Stone course taught me... Without telling me what anything actually means, frequent program blips, and just making it impossible to overview certain parts. It was a bad course I REMEMBER nothing from but I guess the info is still there deep down if I'm understanding most of this without thinking

の's confuse the hell outta me. I feel like I have to read the sentence backward before my mind understands the sentence.
It is generally used as a possessive particle when connecting nouns to one another, but it is also used as an “-ing” particle, like ことorもの. I totally understand why it is so difficult, I still struggle sometimes. However, time and listening will be key! Good luck!
Japanese particles are a bit difficult sometimes. In my opinion if you're serious about improving Japanese language, read books or watch TH-cam specifically discussing about particles, so many out there.

Really like the videos :) But some of the translations are a bit loose especially for language learners. E.g.
新しいのと古いのは、近くない方がいいですよね。
was translated as:
"Okay, then, I think we should put it on the other side of the room."
In the context of the dialogue this might be correct but this is actually not the real translation. Something like: "Okay then, the new one shouldn't be near the old one" would be better, I think.
Maybe it would be better to stay a bit closer to the literal translations but this is just a suggestion :)
I have only been studying Japanese for 6 months (self-studying textbook Genki, didn't watch anime ever) and I can understand most of this!
You must have only listened to the first few beginner conversations. No way in hell you can understand the N3-N2 stuff that come in the later parts of the video with just Genki.
@@SilverArro I said I can understand most of this, not all. Also, people learn differently. I'm pretty good with languages and once I learn the basics, I pick up the language quickly. You don't have to believe me if you don't want to but that's the truth.
@@AnaSnowWhite I don’t believe you. I also pick up languages quickly and I am perfectly willing to believe you could understand the first half hour of this video from just Genki. I repeat, there is no way in hell you could understand the latter half of the video from just Genki. Those conversations use an abundance of grammar and vocabulary you would not have encountered, and it’s not stuff you can just intuitively grasp upon a first listening lol. So either, you did a lot more than just self-studying Genki, or you didn’t listen to more than 30 minutes of this video, or you’re a liar. Take your pick.
It’s so weird to me that Japanese, more than any other language, attracts self-learners who are so eager to rate their skill far higher than it really is. I see it all the time.
