  • I hope this video saves you time and frustration. If I left anything out or if you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask in the comments. I WILL see any and answer ALL, the best that I can. Sorry for the crappy camera work. I'm using a small action camera to shoot this.

    Wow sir, thank you so much for this. I inherited one of these with a property my dad and I bought. I was mowing today and heard something snap and could not go forward or reverse. Looked at the manual and it basically says, normal people can't fix the transmission belt, take to a dealer. Well I can't afford to do all that. Replaced the mower belt last week so I'm sort of familiar with the underside and after watching your breakdown i think ill be able to get it running again myself. Thank you so much for posting this, you are really appreciated.

      Hi Daryk. So glad that I could help. I was very angry after spending hours searching YT without finding any good vids on how to change this damn belt. Tip... buy belt at local auto parts store, save a little money. 77 inch vbelt for my mower.

    Thank you Slydad for this video, it really helped me out. My belt managed to come of the pulley (somehow?) and shear through the fan/blade on the rear pulley on the trans unit yesterday half way through mowing the lawns. Loaded it on the trailer and took it to the local dealer, was quoted $500! and couldn't fit it in until end of January! so I bought new belt (old one was pretty well shot) and new fan/blade ($168 for both) and thought I'd give a go myself. I used a rattle gun to loosen the bolt from crankshaft so didn't need to use vice grips, great tip though, and sprayed WD40 on the pulley and was surprised everything came of the shaft pretty good, my mower is over 7 years old too, tried bending those annoying metal guard tabs back but couldn't bend them far enough to squeeze belt over the pulley, anyway sure glad I found this video it really saved me some cash. cheers from New Zealand.

      There was a 5 min rant at the start that I edited out. Wasn't family friendly ....lol. I could have started it and maybe should have. Was just glad to have it done and over with.

    If you use an impact wrench, you won't have to use vise grips to hold the PTO shaft.
    Love the hack to use chalk to mark the path of the v belt.

    Good video. I fought with one the newer scrub cadet and will never buy another. The tabs were real difficult to bend. Yours looked thinner. Still had to unbolt the engine prop it up a few inches. I feel your pain.

    The easy way is to remove deck. Then underneath motor there are 4 bolts, remove bolts and tilt engine left and right so the belt
    Will slip around front pulley. It takes just a few minutes.

    • @Slydad
      @Slydad  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching and thanks for the suggestion, But that's easier than just bending three tabs back a little ?

    • @JohnDavis-ss4dw

    I started to mow with mine today and got part of our yard done and then the drive pedal just stopped working. I didn't notice any broken belt, but I did notice that I had a small oil leak by the drain plug and that oil had run under the motor mounting plate and onto that pulley and clutch and it's a mess. I noticed that when I tried to move - it 'wanted to' but the belt is obviously wet with oil now and it's got 200 hours on it, so I'm guessing that all needs to come out from under there and then degrease everything and fix my oil leak so when I put the new belt on I don't have this issue. What a pain. I turn 60 next week and wife and I were in a bad accident a month ago when some stupid kid texting, rear ended us while we were stopped with blinker on to turn into the grocery store. (Damn kid hit us at near 50 mph and we're feeling it a lot more now than right after the accident). I just hope I'm up for this. Ordering the new belt from Amazon today. I guess the yard will have to wait a few days. Question: I didn't catch why you had to remove the seat and it appears the gas tank and fender to move back for? I suppose I'm going to have to figure that out when I get there. Thank you and be well.

    • @Slydad
      @Slydad  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mike. You won't have to remove seat and loosen yellow deck to change drive belt. The bolt to change that idler pulley is hidden under the yellow deck. I'm really sorry to hear about that dumb ass that was texting and driving. You'll need to raise your mower up, to give yourself enough room to work. I used a small scissor jack and then a couple jack stands. Take your time and be careful. That pulley with the clutch on it is on the heavy side. Mark on the clutch pulley where the keyway is. It will be easier to line it up when putting the pulley back on. Stay safe and healthy. PS.... I used a pair of vise grips to bend those tabs back enough to get the belt off the pully. I didn't bend them back. They're not easy to bend. Never had any problem with belt coming off.

    • @RRRIBEYE
      @RRRIBEYE 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Slydad Thank you very much! I went ahead and ordered the deck belt also - figured may as well do them both. I also found the oil leak where the drain plug is, so after I soap and power wash everything, I will back that whole drain apparatus out of the block (after I drop the oil) clean well, add some new teflon tape and tighten well. I think that should not allow to happen in the future. I am the 2nd owner so I'm discovering things as I go and doing all the preventive maintenance along the way to hopefully insure it to have a long, dependable life! Thanks again my friend! Take care!

    I had a wheelhouse back in 96. And that was about 15 years old then. And the idler Pully broke when my sister was driving it. That one was located above the right wheel. And even that was a pain. Horrible designs for fixing anything

    • @Slydad
      @Slydad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Eric. Agree brother. Engineers designed this one to be a real pain in the ass to work on.

    • @Slydad
      @Slydad  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey trucker. Not really. I was doing a blade change when I noticed that the drive belt was worn badly. I had owned the mower for about 6 yrs. Good price for this mower. It's run great for me. Only 1 battery change so far.

    • @Vgp-rp4iu
      @Vgp-rp4iu 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@Slydad that's good to hear. The mower I bought shows 350 hours on the meter but the motor only has 110 hours. I guess they had some recall on the entek motors and they took it to the dealer and they put the Kawasaki motor in it. Also just had all the belts changed and an oil change a month ago so hopefully I should get a few years out of it.
