- In a 39-minute interview to Karan Thapar for The Wire, Ghazala Wahab says Indian Muslims are caught “in a pincer grip” comprising two prongs. The external is “the socio-political discrimination they face at the hands of both law-making and law-enforcing authorities”. It often amounts to physical and mental violence. It denies them equal opportunity, even justice. “This forces Muslims to seek security in their own numbers, and they withdraw into ghettoes on the periphery of the mainstream, thereby limiting their choices in terms of accommodation, education and profession.”

Back in 92, when the riots reached certain sections of Kolkata ( I was incidentally residing in one such locality, a boy of 14 years) , I vividly remember some local Hindu boys in our locality approach my father asking for donations to buy crude ammunition and bombs for so called ‘self defence’ of Hindus.. My father sternly reprimanded them and denied any donations and they were very unhappy with his approach.. hate is a self propagating deadly germ

It happens when there is a riot, I have seen this and experienced in my home town where Muslims were in minority and still as Hindu I have suffered but nobody came to talk to me, I don’t know where Karan Thapar was?
Firstly you need to probe the tenets of Islam and the character of Muhammad. Islam is an intolerant supremacist religion that cannot get along with any other religion. Islam is a proselytising religion which was spread through coercion and the sword. Islam is a fake religion and the Quran is a falsely claimed Book of God and Muhammad is a fake prophet who fabricated verses to suit his own political and sexual ambitions. The whole world is fearful of Islam and Muslims. The sooner the cult of Islam is eradicated from the face of the earth, the sooner the world will be a better place to live in. Why these journalists don't probe the root of Islam and the tenets mentioned in the Quran, is obvious they are trying to promote their own agenda.

Fascinating interview, Mr Thapar. Thanks, Ms Ghazala for writing about this. As a Hindu, this is completely unacceptable and heartbreaking to hear. Not the direction for India to go in. From a class lens, poor Hindus are also being manipulated into the fog of hate and violence. They will sadly have a lot to lose, including their own humanity, from entering this deadly fog. Very informative book. Congratulations to Sister Ghazala Wahab. She has probably described the situation sincerely and based on her personal experience. however the following points must be considered
1. The proportion of Muslim in India has risen from 9.8% in 1951 to more than 14% by 2011.
2. There is a good number of Muslims in All India Services.
3. The Muslim clergy frequently threaten the Indians with Gazba e Hind on Social Media.
4. The Muslim Clergy is daily irritating the Indians with Ajaan from Loud Speakers and Namaz on roads.
5. Sister Wahab should examine why Christians, Jews and Parsis are living happily India and find the ways to provide good guidance to the Muslim Community by the Community Leaders.
6. Situation will immediately turn to affectionate brotherhood if the Masjids which were built by destroying the temples are shifted and the temples are allowed to be restored.

And here's the thing, my Indian and Pakistani friends -- I happen to be of Pakistani origin -- are having similar conversations in the face of the exact same hatred against non-white skinned humans from white supremacists in America -- and how the cops cannot, and will not apprehend whites because white supremacy has permeated in law enforcement, and even the military in the US. And that we are scared that things will only get worse. So this is not just about India.

There is literally no comparison, Kashmir has a history, Kashmiris in valley are suffering for last seven decades.
Kashmiri Pandits had no suffering as compared to Kashmiri Muslims, So stop doing fake propaganda.

some quick thoughts..coming from bangalore wnated to share my experience
I have no intention to hurt anyone. Apologies if so.
- Today's bangalore has many minorities. There are several minority "ghettos" mostly based on language, caste, religion, even place of origin, type of work they do, place of district. The poor among stay in such ghettos for the support system they offer. The more richer among these ghetto move out to live in posher colonies in bangalore. Like author's parent did. Nothing specific to muslim. When i was in usa, i stayed in place where there was more indians, and later once i had money and confident of my economic condition , i wanted to move out for a bigger place.
- Today in cosmopolitan bangalore there are people with different belief/character/habits. I had to hide my non-veg eating habits to rent a brahmin's house in bangalore. Even my relgious mother who came from orthodox family, refused to rent her house to muslim . Because she consider beef eating in house she built is bad. I have rented a house to a christian and never bothered what he eats. I know one muslim friend who was ignoring another muslim friend of mine. Later he told he belong to "syed" clan (?) and he is "superior". Saying muslim have to hide identity to get job done is wrong. Many do at times.
- Today muslim also have their dominance in some areas. I grow mangoes in my farm. The entire buying chain is dominated by muslim near my farm village. They have a total monopoly over it. If they refuse to buy I am at loss. No hindu can enter the chain without loss. The dominance can be easily seen in trading silk also near and around bangalore. Similar dominance of hindus can be seen in vegetable dealing. There is so much interdepdence on each other in villages on India. They are defnitely not feeling insecure . Like Arif Mohammed put, 90% of muslim are not even aware of the question if they should be insecure or not. Life goes on as nothing would change. Its people like Aamir khan who is so successful but still feel insecure.
- Today's many progressive muslim leader lack the courage to lead and guide muslim in education/research/country building. They love to speak about victimization or running away. I see only a few educational institution started by elite muslim pre-indepdendence still survive. Their leaders do fight nowto , currently were heard r insisting on muslim girls to be allowed with full hijab instead of just a scarf recently. None of the muslim leader volunteered to start a education institute which can provide modern education with muslim principles, chrisitian are far ahead. My sister was put to a convent even though they had monthly once bible story classes. I recently read a mugal history which talked about how women were educated and negotiated with foreign guest.
- When there were great muslim like S saint Shishunala sharieff or our scientist like Abdul kalam...symbols of coexistance and harmony. the community do not celebrate such great personality. But prefer tipu sultan who had a good and bad personality. He had destroryed temples and killed hindus and converted, though later year he had definitely supported few hindu temples + fought the great battle with british. The preference of tippu over abdul kalam was clear . Abdul kalam was not a polarizing person who can fetch vote by celebrating him. Today more hindu celebrate Abdul kalam and his contribution and every muslim should be made proud of that truth. Abdul kalam only told many times about composite culture of his talking to supreme hindu leader in kanchi temple and doing namaz in masjid next door.
- Like some BJP leader, today muslim politician see growth in polarizing the constituency to emerge as a shining party leader too. I can take example of my constituency., where long time ago, the supreme court on wakf board appeal allowed doing namaz during bakrid, on a public playground. Today based on that 50 year old permisson, the wakf with a muslim MLA support refuses hindu festival celebration on the playground. The muslim MLA was elected by both hindu and muslim. He is a growing star in national "secular" party after now.
- Sachar committe exposed the muslim issue since indepedence, even though they had a friendly supportive securlar govt. which muslim organization came together to propose a plan to improve when they had friendly government. During that time the same friendly secular government ruled my state, provided "shaadi Bhagya", a 50,000RS government gift for poor muslim girl's marriage. None of the muslim leader instead requested the same money be given to poor muslim who graduates from university Or build a universtiry for muslim poor. BTW the same offer was not offered to poor hindus
Being poor hindu or muslim or north indian or south indian or madrasi....people undergo discrimination for various reason in bangalore. Actually original bangaloreans complain about being discriminated with influx of many out of state people. so narrowing some issues to muslim alone only is wrong.

We were murdered, raped and made to run to Delhi from Lahore during the partition, and reduced from about 35% to about 1% in the present day Pakistan. On the other hand the Muslims in India have grown more than 4 times post partition, while the British India was divided on the basis of religion.

Multiple such stories happened during the the Gujarat Riots too and the aftermath of it. Even to this day one comes accross , " pallipar " Pakistan. A road devides the two communities. Scenes I came accross in Ahmedabad and Baroda. It was horrific, and the shocker, it had legal sanctity.

I don't know much about BJP's hindu agenda but it definitely testing very secular idea of congress and some media. They are struggling to figure out the thin line between BJP and hindus. In this interview, Karan Thappad thought he is politically attacking BJP without realizing he crossed the line into hindu minds.
I have never voted for BJP and there are some good things Modi has done, and also some not so good. But the
way he is attacked by the media ,local & International, I think it is anti Hindu and makes me think differently.
Have you interviewed a single Kashmiri Pandit ? Do you ask why they supported Partition ? Do you ask a Muslim why they stayed back in India and did not object to 13 percent Muslims getting 25 percent land inPakBangla ? Do you ask them about Hindu bashing in 47, 61, 62, 71, 72 and in Kashmir ?

Hindus are most tolerant in whole world. In my whole soceity one muslim family lives peacefully from last 20 years. I dont think that will work vise versa.
Malaysia, Indonesia, UAE, Yemen, Kuwait, urban Bangladesh. In all these areas Hindus are totally safe. Pakistan is terrible for Hindus. But so is Sri Lanka.

Really appreciated this conversation. India is very lucky to have minority like Muslim community, I can tell you from personal experience knowing a lot of Indian Muslim. In Pakistan minority of15% of the population will not tolerate this sort of situation lying down.
