Letting them tell the stories of their successes and failures is more interesting than doing the same audit format from scratch as though you’d never met them. I feel like both Caleb and us as the audience have been unfairly lenient toward Joseph. I’ve seen people who’ve made far less mistakes on this show get dragged in the comments for their financial decisions and we don’t bring that same energy for Joseph. He’s on his 4th audit, without much significant improvement. I think, from the limited knowledge I have of him/his life, he enjoys the feeling of having community and “friends” around his financial situation and there may be part of him that feels like if he fixes the situation, the friendship and attention he’s getting because of it will go away. I say this from personal experience. When he said he held off calling Caleb about the thing with the collections people around minute 27 so that he could share it on the show, it showed me his focus isn’t on fixing his situation, but talking about his situation with his “friends” (Caleb and us, the internet cheer squad). It might not be a conscious “decision” to do this but I think it’s something he should explore in therapy. He doesn’t need any more audits, he needs to work on the mental and emotional issues preventing him from getting to where he wants to go.

    • @jadelovely24
      @jadelovely24 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +15

      it would be a great success story. But it's not a realistic one. With four times on the show and seemingly nothing getting through, Caleb is lying to himself if he thinks he can talk him out of his own destruction.

    • @SunshineMena
      @SunshineMena 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +12

      @@Whatwouldjimmybuffetdo and this is what I mean when I say we’ve been unfairly lenient toward him. There were lots of other people who could equally be success stories but Caleb (and us, to some degree) is highly invested in him because I think he sees himself in Joseph and that’s not fair to the other guests who were also on the brink of a breakthrough but didn’t get this many chances. And it stops being fair to us as viewers as well because we want other examples, of people who are doing a bit better and may truly be a source of inspiration to us etc. Not saying Joseph isn’t an inspiration to some, but there’s 4 episodes on him already. I would like to see a different situation, or an update with someone who’s made more significant progress. And if there isn’t anyone else, then maybe it’s a sign that there’s something in Caleb’s approach that could be improved cuz this approach may not be working if people don’t want to come back and show improvement, especially when there’s a financial incentive to come back as well. Just some thoughts.

      Previously he said losing his work card )$150) had him spiral losing days of work but this time he said after the car wreck he paid things off, enveloped money and figured out the bus schedule. It may not look like progress b/c he's not answering everything logically, is creating his own account work arounds (not following exactly what Caleb says) and is still making mistakes and BS spending but if you look at the overall picture of how much debt has changed in a year, no longer paying 500% interest payday loan habits, there is progress.

But I cannot for the life of me figure out why people are so keen on this guy. There are so many more deserving guests who have been on this show, people who are trying harder. This is a rare case where a guest is irritating me. I wish Caleb would stop bringing him on and start giving time to other people who are working harder and more serious about their commitment to growth. But clearly we're the minority here.

      @@TonyCox1351 Watching this it just feels like he doesn't care, has zero will to fix anything. Just kinda going with the flow and only choosing to take care of the things that come to him, as opposed to him being proactive and fixing them himself, for example "accounting for tax payments in my bill sheet" instead of actually using it to pay it? Just waiting for things to happen then taking care of it then.
      Same with the damn car, instead of getting rid of it, was thankful he got into an accident and had the car totalled. Literally waiting for things to take care of themselves and taking zero action. wow.

    I have a MOUNTAIN of tax debt for various reasons and the main thing I have learned is that you need to stay in contact with the IRS. He needs to call them immediately and say that he wants to be put on a payment plan. I am this same kind of person who just ignores things when they get too overwhelming. The IRS does not play if you ignore them. On the other hand, if you call they are incredibly friendly and helpful. Don't be afraid to call them, as overwhelming as it seems. It's much worse to try to get money out of your bank account and realize the IRS has frozen it. Believe me! You got this! Definitely look into that offer in compromise as well.

Even at my poorest, married with a kid, in college, I never even thought about getting a payday loan. My go to when I needed more money was always cutting unnecessary spending or selling things. That's the biggest thing these guests need: a complete mindset change about where to go and where you MUST NOT go when you need more money.

This also shows how complex it is to work on financial success when you are navigating these challenges (low financial literacy, responsible for the whole family and the general exhaustion of being lower income). Been watching My 600-lbs Life and also many of Caleb's videos. There is a huge correlation between Joseph and others like him on this show and those that seek Dr. Now for weight loss. Many of them think that just seeking help will somehow magically solve all their issues. When in reality, it requires a lot of will power and discipline to get results and goals that they want to reach.
    Like Joseph my guy. Do you know the definition of insanity is? It's doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result. What you're doing with constantly coming on Caleb's show with very little to no results is insanity. I live STRONGLY by this rule and to not be insane. It's how I managed to get a small cheap house by the age of 35. When I was 28-29, I had a lot of debt in collections that I managed to swim out of. All because I didn't do the same thing over and over. If one thing fails, try another way. You just can't keep doing the same thing over and over, constantly keep coming on Caleb's show and expecting a different result. Just not how this works my man.
