I came up with a way in which Dio could have survived Part 3. After Star Platinum's punch started ripping off his body, in an attempt to save his life, he stops time for a final time. However Jotaro isn't able to move in this time stop as he had exhausted his limit after stopping time for the first time. Dio, just like in Part 1, chops his head, to prevent his brain from being blown to smithereens. This throws his head off a long distance. After Time starts moving again, it seemed as if his head blew up. But in reality, Dio's head survived and he was able to steal another body and managed to escape. However as he was incredibly weak, and the new host would not be as powerful as Jonathan, he would take a lot longer to recover, (explaining why we haven't seen him in parts 4-6.

I came up with a way in which Dio could have survived Part 3. After Star Platinum's punch started ripping off his body, in an attempt to save his life, he stops time for a final time. However Jotaro isn't able to move in this time stop as he had exhausted his limit after stopping time for the first time. Dio, just like in Part 1, chops his head, to prevent his brain from being blown to smithereens. This throws his head off a long distance. After Time starts moving again, it seemed as if his head blew up. But in reality, Dio's head survived and he was able to steal another body and managed to escape. However as he was incredibly weak, and the new host would not be as powerful as Jonathan, he would take a lot longer to recover, (explaining why we haven't seen him in parts 4-6.
