    I grow my plants outdoors here in Nigeria, it’s currently the rainy season and they love the rain. They love outdoors and as regards pests, my plants outdoors have fewer pest pressures because there are lots natural pest predators. Praying Mantis , Lizards all help to control pest populations for me. But I can see how it can be a problem If your plants aren’t growing outdoors entirely

      This is so awesome! I guess I didn't think of the natural pest predators side of things. I just checked out your channel and I love to see how in other parts of the world brings us different plant care advice. I saw your Ficus Roy video, I'm going to keep an eye out for that plant now...! Thank you for sharing!

    I LUV rehab plants...and, I usually clean out the Clearance rack of the more healthy plants. 😍 My collection has grown because of the rescues. 😀 Now, not all plants survive but a majority of them are thriving and shooting off new growth and pups. And, I mist my plants. 😁 Clearance plants I ALWAYS repot after a week, by the time I get to them the soil is horrendous. Mainly, just over watered. I am with you on the high price of some plants. I give them away for free when I can propagate. 😎 I LUV your plants they are always so "lush" and GORGEOUS...😍😍😍 I followed your advice in pinning and now my plants are starting to become lush, too. 💝🌹💞💃💃💃 Keep up the great work on your videos, I enjoy them all. 🍃🌿🌱

    Thank you!!! Someone finally said not to mist the leaves. I have been saying this for so long lol I also don’t like rehabbing plants. It’s not worth it. But I do love putting my plants outside for the summer.

    Hello my biggest hurdle was learning not to repot a plant soon as You bring it home. I appreciate the topic today. Thanks 👍👍

    Thank you for sharing your opinion because it definitely helps 😊 and I've come to realize from experience root balls are better left undisturbed and misting is just something else a plant hover do because my leaves would always get brown spots so I stopped misting, love this topic learning and growing that's what we plant people do.

    My only experience and concern or biggest problem when I’m going holiday for months on my own to visit family , and when I came back lots of my house plants are getting funny and some of it do not survive because it’s over watering by my husband .

    I definitely repot fairly quickly (after a week or so) and remove as much soil as possible. I also mist. Everyone over here is thriving. The only issues I've had were from leaving my plants in crappy nursery substrate. As for misting, not all plants need misting, but some species do like it, especially certain alocasias and crotons. As long as you have proper air circulation you're not gonna get fungal infections. I also use a fine aerosol mister but I can see if you're just going at your plant with a regular spray bottle how that would be an issue. You also have to mist frequently for it to be worthwhile, but i like to do that anyway. I do agree about the begonias though. Yuck

    I agree on all these as well! Especially on succulents, I think theyre really cute but I find that I quickly lose interest in them :( One of the things that keeps me interested in a plant is seeing visible growth, and succulents grow too slowly for me to find them rewarding

    I buy a container of River Rocks for $2.50 at Home Depot and my plants 🪴 that need humidity that are not close to my humidifier...I put the River Rocks inside a glass bowl that I buy from the Dollar Tree fill that bowl up with water and I put the plant on top of it. Every 2 months, I throw the River rocks in a pot of boiling water just to clean them off.

    Great video!! Loved your little clip of bloopers!! Lol makes it more real. 😁
    I agree with everything you said except begonias. 😲 How can you NOT like an Angels Wing Begonia?!? Just kidding.. but I personally love mine and it’s the only one I own. Her leaves can almost cover my face!
    My unpopular opinion would definitely be: the opinionated individuals who show distaste to your personal collection. And give you the speel on the ‘right’ way to care for it. 🙄

      @ThatFoliageLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Haha Thanks so much for watching! Glad you enjoy my little bloops haha. I actually ordered some begonias in for my shop after I made this video (cos I know other people like them!), and I was looking at them and though, mmm, that could grow on me... hahaha!
      Oh my yes, I agree with you there. Everyone's collection is personal, and I would never judge someone else's collection, and only give advice when I'm asked!

    I have to say my Polly had that plug and I believe it did cause the plant problems because it stayed wet in it and rotted the stem base. The rest of the soil would be bone dry.

    I can't stand it when people instantly go to repot a plant they just bought, especially if they're upping the pot size. Let them be! Why add on to the stress they're already experiencing, you know? It's one thing if the soil is incredibly bad or it's a rehab and needs thorough care ASAP, but other than that it drives me mad.

    • @ThatFoliageLife
      @ThatFoliageLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree it can be quite vexing, but when it doesn't work out for them, they have learned something either way, right? :) Sometimes the best way we learn is by making mistakes.

    It's super interesting how taste varies. I love succulents, they thrive here in Mexico... And now that you mention it I love "weeds" so maybe that's why I love Begonias and Peperomias... But I suppose all plants are weeds if you think about it 😆

    • @ThatFoliageLife
      @ThatFoliageLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha you have a point there! I believe some ctenanthe grow like weeds in Queensland, Australia and just a few states away we are purchasing them as indoor plants haha

    I grow most of my plants in my own potting mix based on coco coir and pumice. I am experimenting with mycorrhizal fungi and it has been very successful so far. They come as a powder or liquid and they grow a beneficial mycelium that forms a partnership with the roots, trading nutrients for sugars produced by the plant. It's what happens in natural ecosystems and it forms the so called wood-wide-web in forests. Happy plants!

    • @ThatFoliageLife

    unpopular opinion, i actually have less pest outside. i have them outside all summer, then inside in winter (i live in Canada). inside, they sort of decline and i get more pests (winter in Canada is cold, dry, and not much sun). but no i agree, you can't just shove a plant outside, you have to slowly acclimatize your plant to it

      Hi Sally! I bought a bunch of begoninas after making this video, for my shop stock and I thought maybe if I looked at them long enough, I'd want to keep one for myself. It hasn't happened yet... 😂Thank you for watching.

  • @amandastrickland3181

    So I think people that refer to them as death plugs are talking about the plastic cups that get buried on soil. Not the spongey biodegradable moss plugs 😅

    I think above and beyond not buying expensive cuttings, I'm done buying cuttings at all. Rooted or nothing! I will happily swap cuttings with other planty people but I'm tired of spending money on a gamble.

    Totally agree w you on almost all your of your opinions in today's video. I can totally see your point on the ones we disagree on but respectfully agree to disagree 😉 There is one that I am 110% onboard with... begonias blah LoL I am not a fan of these plants. So many creators go on about how pretty they are...I always FF when they carry on about them 🤭 Thanks for having the guts to share your unpopular opinions...it was a refreshing video to watch 👍👍

    I don’t think you told a lie 🤷🏾‍♀️
    I’ve never been able to decide whether the plugs were harmful or not so I appreciate what you said about them. Have you noticed that they completely disintegrate overtime or do they just stay as is, harmless in the pot?

    • @ThatFoliageLife
      @ThatFoliageLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hahaha Theresa, I ordered some begonias for my shop because just because I don't vibe with them doesn't mean I won't provide the people what they want, but I was looking them over when they arrived, and I thought, I could actually get used to them haha! Maybe, I don't know lol
      Yes, the plugs I have in my plants have broken down and disintegrated. I have never really had to pick one apart from my plant roots. :)

    For the most part, I'm right there with you on these opinions and pet peeves. I'm particularly against the high prices of some plants. If they are truly that rare, keep them in the hands of horticulturists who can collectively work to build up the species. (..end rant)
    I do disagree with you on succulents. I love the diversity found in succulents. Irish Bouquet, Button Necklace, String of Hearts, Violet or Silver Squills, Dancing Bones, Pink Ice, Mongolian Dunce Cap, all the Jades, all the Peperomias and all the Hoyas - so many more! There are so many unique plants under the succulent banner. I love my others too, but I have a fondness for my succulents. Contrary to popular belief, they aren't all shaped like echeverrias and they present their own unique challenges.

    • @ThatFoliageLife
      @ThatFoliageLife  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Sally! I truly wish I could love succulents too. I appreciate each one's unique beauty and intricateness but I can't seem to get on the same page with their care. I feel like it's a whole new world I haven't quite cracked into yet. 😂 There's a lady here in Bendigo who has a STUNNING collection, her IG is @kathsuccs and her collection blows me away. You should check her out! I think you would enjoy her content. :D Thanks so much for sharing x
