This one was amazing - so many small finds and a wonderful farmer who called in the Time Team to try to understand his land. Loved the glass recycling experiment.
I'm fascinated by archaeology, but also amused by how this show progresses. The diggers look at faint blobs and tiny shards of flint, using phrases like "that suggests that..." and "this might be..." but by the end of the program we hear a bazillion "absolutelys."
I can't wait to see how the geophys technology evolves and improves over the years. The unidentifiable 'dark patches' are frustratingly basic. Terrific show.
When you talk about Rome being in Britain for 300+ years, North America was colonized / invaded only about 450 years ago and The United States is less than 300 years old. So things surely changed so much in that time.
How awesome would it be to start ya garden and find an ancient Roman villa!!! And here I thought it was cool to find an arrowhead rite off my back porch!
Doing a bit of my own technological archeology, I'd say this was filmed sometime in the early to mid 1990's. The extensive use of pre-windows DOS based Autocad in which the final version to support DOS was in 1994, 3.5" floppy disks, optical pen based digitizing tablet, general clothing fashions and quality of the video artifacts all support this hypothesis.
They were there, you just have to look. In some episodes cows and chickens help dig along with various dogs. Farmers mow the grass for them, or harvest the area where they are to dig, and in many episodes including this one you meet the farmer who owns the field.

I continue to be amazed at what our distant ancestors created.
Straight up, I wouldn't have made it out of the cave!

This is such fun! Just a little escape from the present and just be happy with some bits of pottery
Incredible pretty hat on Phiil's head!!
The stripey jumper remains a classic

Been watching this series since it first appeared and it never gets old!
30:50 IDK about that... He's gotten pretty "ripe" then ;)
'Try not to get too much drool on it'........................A classic from Robin Bush there!

Love all the finds, to this site and that they were able to make a small piece of glassware form over 2,000 yr old roman glass shards. Interesting.

Well, that is still cool.

Wow. And Tony with lots of hair!
One of them says that their wine pot has "1995" on the bottom
I think they started filming this series in 1994. And this is an early one, the guys look so young!(compared to the ones in 2000s)
One guy looks at the Roman replica cup and sais, "Its a good thing he signed it..1995...So...made that easy!
@@aw4483 That's prof. Mick Aston on 16:03...
27:13 'Try not to get too much drool on it..." ROFL!!!!
I really wish there was an exact copy of Tony's epic jacket on sale in Time Team shop. I'd totally buy it.
We see so many fields in so many films. Where are the tractors, cows, sheep, harvesters, mowers, etc.? Love the series!

What a cracking programme and such a nice farmer/owner
The kid getting a free ride at 42:29 made me smile.😃
Thank you.
Mick Aston's sweater looks so new and bright. But is it THE sweater?
He had several of them.
This episode is as close to the Romans as I am to this episode!
Lol
those are the coolest farmers
Yeah, but I'm first to comment on Tony's impeccable *drip* in this episode.
Nice
Libby, help a poor dutch man out, can you?
What do you British mean when you say "drip"?
@@blablabla-qs5io As a Texan, I'm flattered to be mistaken at British - and the kids say "drip" when referring to a particularly fashionable ensemble.

Guessing it a old work site for making potter and glass from the looks
Wow this is an old episode late 80s early 90s?
My fat ass thought the piece of pottery in the thumbnail was chocolate and clicked without even glancing at what the video was about 🤦🏻♀️
Ya I can see how you could see that as chocolate. 😆
Mmmmmm pottery......
@@Fugginshidmypant Must be a pandemic on.
Came for the chocolate, stayed for the Archaeology... ☺️
Was here December 2020

Funny I remember seeing this in the 80's don't recall you being there?
You've gotta love Phil's Australian'nes
You’d think, but he is actually from Southwest England. He has a Wiltshire accent.
Born in Oxford, raised in Wiltshire and currently living in Salisbury.
Sorry....I just can't get excited about pottery.
