During the unrest in Algeria in the mid-1990s, some Raï musicians were shot dead by the fundamentalists who long loathed Raï music, thus, some Raï musicians fled to the Western world. Sting once recalled that he first heard Raï music in a UK pub. He explained that he did not really know any Arabic music, but he wrote Desert Rose in what he imagined to be an Arabic melody and then asked Cheb Rabah to write some Arabic lyrics-melody to add to the song. Faouzia actually adjusted a few notes in the Cheb Rabah passage making the tune slightly less Arabic yet more contemporary. I love Sting-Cheb's original, but I love Faouzia's version just as much.
Her Arabic roots are apparent in the songs that she covers as well as in her original music 😁 There's so much more to discover when it comes to her catalogue.
Shes raised in canadia but is Moroccan and sings with alot of arabic influences in her voice. She grew up listening to alot of arabic music. 💜 You can tell by her agility and her unique vibrato.
I think you did a fine job with her name, but folks from different parts of the world say her name differently. And yours was the appropriate reaction to this performance. And I support the swiping. Who wants to see Yellow and Adam Lambert? 😂 Sting released this with Algerian Cheb Mami in 1999. So it’s older than she is. But she’s been singing it a long time.
@@kevinty7BTW her hair is usually about waist length. There have been recent video clips with her hairdresser adding extensions to make it appear longer.
It's a song by Sting. The original is terrific too, though Faouzia sings it magically. What a voice!
👍🏽cheers Dave
Song performed by Sting and Cheb Mami an Algérien singer 😊. Faouzia cover is insane😊. I like it
MERCI POUR LA REACTION, BIEN VENU AU CLUB.
my pleasure 👍🏽
Faouzia won one of the worlds biggest song writing contests at 17 years of age, can't wait until you get into her original music.Thx Kevin.
definitely will follow 👍🏽 thanks thanks for the support ❤️
Thank you Kev for your beautiful reaction 🥰🥰 this made me very proud of being Moroccan 😊😊😊
Beautiful Leila❤️❤️

MOST IMPRESSIVE SINGER TP COME DOWN THE PIKE.

It sounds quite tribalistic if that makes sense sort of reminds me a bit of eivor and dolores o riordan (rip) the way she uses her voice
I see that Ali ❤️👍🏽
Your comparison to Dolores makes a lot of sense.
