Whoever decided what to redact in these documents is an absolute mad man. "It's fine for everyone to know that we have a magic talking tree, but it's essential that they don't know its vocal frequency range." I imagine Trench handled the redactions, and would just start leaning on his marker whenever he felt a bit paranoid.
I remember reading about the tree and being reminded strongly about the music boxes of Dishonered. Through rigorous trial and error the Overseers were able to mathamatically devise a dull plonking tune that disrupted all supernatural abilities within a massive radius of the music box. Pretty interesting in my opinion.
The cassette question raises a lot of questions of what would count as "speaking" to the tree. Does a recording work? How about speaking through an intercom? Does the speaker need to understand what they're saying? Would text to speech software count? The real missed opportunity, however, is that during her Hiss nightmare, Jesse isn't forced to record herself reading the dictionary. A altered tree which has an auditory effect? Does that mean it is... all bark? The repeating of words and phrases sounds oddly familiar to the hiss. Regarding the volcano imagery, to me it appears to be a very fitting location for a place of power. Volcanism is as much a destructive as a creative force. It changes the topography and at times creates islands in the middle of the ocean. They are earths crucible. So what location would be bettter suited to alter items?
I love using Volcanos as a creative symbol. There is s reason Hephaestus had his forge in a volcano as his Roman name was Vulcan. Magma being the melted down raw components of physical matter ready to burst forth to make something new.
Regarding the question of whether the sound of, or meaning of, the words is significant between languges, the researcher is advised to control for the comprehension of the speaker. Whether the speaker understands the words they speak, vs repeating sounds, may be significant. This includes determining whether the speaker is fluent in the language they are speaking, or from being told what the sounds they are repeating mean.
Very good point as well. For me, it would seem very odd of it only worked in English personally. But I've seen that in literature where the speaker needs to understand what they're saying in another lamgiagebfor it to work.

Now that i think about it. Its probably a good thing the fbc switched from esoteric to scientific. That was probably a directive from the board to insure they dont inadvertently cause multiple consecutive house shifts by accident. I shudder to think of the kinda damage the hiss could of done if it knew about the Bureau's more esoteric practices and how theu effect alter items and o.o.p's. Also when can we expect another video on the archivests journals.
Well we see a few altered items affected by the Hiss. Pretty much all the Langston Runaway items fall under this category. And I try to have these ones come out every alternative week between the main lectures.
There was one Altered Item in the Panopticon, the crowbar, that has no documentation of any kind. Do you plan to cover that? If so, how will you do it with no documentation to pull from?
There are a few items with no details on it. Besides the crowbar we have the salt lamp, fondue set, cowboy boot and the hip flask. Some of these have tangential stuff. Flask sounds like a retconned version of the Home Safe OoP. Yous ee it in the opening title sequence and can read some of the report there. Albeit a bit blurry. Frankly, the only way they would be covered is in passing. Just saying they are there nut we have no info.
I've seen it said in some versions of the cosmology that Erebos is that shadowy plane before the River Styx/Acheron that souls collect if they dont have the coin to pay the ferryman. Trapped in the shadow and unable to cross into Hades properly.
8:46 Whilst you may have potentially chosen this visual for Erebus at random, it does make me wonder the creation of Magic The Gathering may have been either a) a side effect of an AWE or b) been created in partnership with the FBC as a potential recruitment game, considering the game involves the concept of a Multiverse and encourages players to cause shenanigans within the confines of the game’s rules and resource systems
Each department has different 'need to know' situation. But I have the idea that sometimes it is less about information nut more they dont want certain 'ideas' floating around in the collective group think

long ago and far away, but as a kiwi I feel it is my duty to say: Erebus is pronounced "ear-eh-bus" basically the first bit sounds like the word "era" then just "bus". But you kinda trip over the a of the era? The emphasis goes on the first E. We have some weird pronunciations down here.

Just watch. There is no actual reason to redact it. The guy with the sharpie is just a giant troll.

Havent played Dishonored so I won't read the whole comment sadly. Look forward to playing it eventually though.
Just absolutely amazing! I love how you link real live events to the games story elements. I can only imagine how much time and effort it takes
Honestly the research part of it is a lot of fun. Glad you enjoy the finished product!
Ah, the mountain caldera in Washington, and the thermos. Good bad times
That sums it up. Caldera in Washington? Good times lol
I love this archivist playlist ❤
I'm glad you enjoy these! Definitely a fun series to work on. Next one is already finished!

So good to see another Archivist episode.

Another well done FBC Archivist video GU! 👍
Got the next couple in the works. Something fun planned coming up.
There releasing a new collection addition Psychonauts that’s apparently going to have exclusive cut content
I saw that! Trying to figure out how exactly they will include it. Just so you know this week we are editing Hollis's mind. Will be up next week.

The Isu lore in Assassin's creed franchise is pretty awesome too.. It would be great if you brake it down your way.
Never played assassins creed games. Seems like a big undertaking to get caught up
But it has a bunch of the good stuff from creation to extinction, cultists, symbolism.. good stuff good stuff
Question is, did the volcano's paranatural properties end after Doomguy hit the exit teleporter on E3M6? :)
Two digits for AIs feels rather low.
