I appreciate your acknowledgment between Southern and Midwestern racism... I live a town over from the nearest sundown. Thank you Sister Nicole for being a voice towards the silence of our mistreatment. Changes to come for the future generations of Black Catholics.

Thank you for your clear and powerful eloquence, Sr. Nicole. It is only with this kind of forthrightness and honesty that we will come to bring about the KINdom of God.

I am a black Catholic and I have always felt like I was on the outside looking in, such as when I would go to mass and people would not let me into the bench or would not hold hands with me during prayer. I used to be hurt but now with Covid I feel relieved by it. I am from Louisiana but became Catholic in California. When I went home to live in Baton Rouge there was only one other black lady and she was African. The temptation to leave the church is strong. Thank you for your talk.

It's hard, I know. Hang in there. We can't create change from outside.

Attend the Latin mass. You don’t have to hold hands, shake hands, clap, raise arms. Pope Benedict XVI came out with an encyclical back in 2010 about proper gestures and postures during mass. In other words Rubrics of the mass. Simply worship and fulfill your duty as God wants you to.

Bravo, you are indeed a staunch Catholic. In God's eyes it is not a question of being black, Brown or white Catholic. It is more on the black or white souls of the church members. All the rest, such as racism, indifference and arrogance are all brought about by events in the past and still be very much so in the present. Forgiveness is the best solution to all of these.

Your witness about "sundown towns" has greatly clarified my upbringing. I was unknowingly (until now) raised in one of these towns. I'm holding you in my prayers this night and going forward.

This information is needed more now than ever. Our church has been silent and thereforth complicit. Call it what it is. Holy Mary pray for your sons and daughters of the church!

Just wondering why you don’t wear a religious habit? God bless.

Good question. I can give you a brief answer. It is not a matter of personal preference, necessarily. I am not opposed to it. In the congregation to which I belong, our Sisters in the US discerned, after the Second Vatican Council, that the habit they wore at the time sometimes acted as a sort of barrier between them and the people with whom they served. So, the habit was modified several times, but in the end they determined that wearing simple dress in keeping with the people with whom we serve was a good/valid option. I hope this short answer somewhat answers your question. The full answer is much more nuanced and would be rather lengthy. But this is a thumbnail sketch.
Here are a few resources that might be helpful:

@@SrNicole Vatican II never abrogated the habit. Instead it was 'modernist' orders that changed the habit.

btw "how are you black and catholic" is just a person that does not have manners. Its like if somebody asks to touch a persons hair because they have never seen that hair texture and color. Its bad manners but is it racism? Our society has trained people to look at peoples color instead of heart. Anybody that looks at themselves as this or that based on skin color instead of human qualities might have just swallowed what society has trained them.

      Canadiiancid123:
Of course it racist as it’s something that’s made racially specific. “How are you BLACK and Catholic?” It’s making a connection between religious faith and one’s race. It’s saying that for someone to be Catholic yet be black is something that off and weird and should be questioned in terms of legitimacy.
      Clear as day to me.

THE TRUE AND POWERFUL CONVERSION STORY: the 2nd part:
    March, 2022
Thank GOD for our LADY of GUADALUPE; when I visited her Shrine in Mexico in Dec. 2012, and I was suffering at the time of "Sleep Apenea" I was healed really while still there - FRARNKLY, my first intensions were to honor her.
†Also, when I prayed few Rosaries to help me to quit smoking cigaretes on May 17, 1998, she answered my prayers immediately, though I was SUPER skeptical at that time.
†Truly, when I was inspired to recite one single Rosary in December 12, 2000, I was healed from my unbelief (Jn. 14: 1) - and I tried at the time first to pray OUR FATHER, but I couldn't remember the prayer; and GOD still saved me! Also During my first Holy arosary procession outdoors on May 13, 2001, I saw Queen of the Holy Rosary walking with us for 4-5 seconds; And she had long, dark, blue dress & absolutely attractive one.
†Also in 2003 I heard very sweet voices a few times singing above my bed as I awoke in the morning, and they continued for nearly 5 seconds.
†Since my conversion, I try NOT to miss attending Masses weekly or daily etc. And I pray the Devine Mercy Chaplet at 3:00pm for years, and I NEVER miss it.
†UNDOUBTLY, Reading & meditating in "Gospel of life" according to the daily readings is like my "daily bread" And I read the Bible from cover to cover 3 times since my conversion! & I read CCC as well, (Is. 55: 10 -11). Also, I like to what some one says: every winter turns into spring. But "The fool says in his heart, "There is no God"(Ps.14:1)
†Unfortunately, many "Catholics don't know what they have, and Evangelicals don't know what they are missing!"
†And I used to attend few different Evangelical Churches for a few years searching for TRUTH while residing in Stockholm & they opened my eyes a little bid to the faith at the time.
† God is still in the miracle buisness. And thank God for the most holy ROSARY prayer, etc. Psalm 107:13 - 14)"
†"BROTHERS & SISTERS PRAY FOR ME THAT I MAY NOT FLEE FOR FEAR OF THE WOLVES [terrorstes]," (Psalm 107:13-14)"
*"This is the day which GOD hath made a day for us to REJOICE & be GLAD"-Ps.118: *WORTH VIEWING:
†By Saba Korial, MIC, & I was born in Middle East in Palm Sun., now Christian CATHOLIC & Canadian. (2 Tm 2:4 & 4:7). Note that the Name of God is mentioned 3 times while praying the ROSARY as follow: first the LORD, then the name Jesus & GOD.INDIAN STAR: th-cam.com/video/_U4R-JcfZ58/w-d-xo.html
