  • This lesson will cover how to repair broken, busted, and cracked tubing. It covers external and internal cracks. Plus surface hair line cracks. After I cover how to repair the tubing I then demo how to create a spoon with the salvaged tubing. Hope you enjoy. Wow, I'm not a glass worker but I am a curious mind who likes to learn. It just happens that I am fixing a borosilicate french-press that cracked the tip of the spout and I was googling a fix for that. I have a portable propane torch I use for a lot of DIY work.
Is it necessary to pre-heat the whole thing, as with normal glass, to avoid stress cracks when fixing something as minute as the tip of the spout, or can I directly slowly apply heat to the area that needs fixing?
Thank you for your very informative video! Really cool!

Sorry for the late reply. I can’t recommend using a portable props in torch to melt the sharp edges of a broken spout. You can in theory use the tip of the flame not visible to the naked eye to melt it safely for that thin of a glass container. But the light generated can burn your pupils.

@@emanuelantunes2789 hey I got a tip!!! USE A COFEE CUP!!!! most french presses come in a diameter which you can find a coffee cup to fit and they are SOOOOOOOOOOO much longer lasting and safer.

I've been using my damaged french press for cold-brew now. Great in summer time!

@@emanuelantunes2789 glad I could help! Im not entirely sure why they don’t make em with thicker glass or a ceramic cup to begin with. But fortunately most are of a standard dimension.
