    I assembled my boards last night. They look great! I would never want to play Terraforming Mars without these. When you're getting ready to assemble these, make sure to watch this video first.

    I'm notorious for screwing up and breaking things, so I was a little nervous going into the assembly. But it was a breeze and they look and work awesome!

    I bought four of these and they're absolutely wonderful. Though there's a rare occasion where we have 5 players at which point I'm willing to bite the bullet and use the non-overlayed player-mat. I actually regret not getting that 5th and I'll likely spend the money to go ahead and and buy a 5th at some point. If you love Terraforming Mars (and I do, probably in my personal top 3 games list) they're definitely worth investing in! Super high quality, aesthetically appealing and simply makes the actual game a more pleasant experience.

    The backing on the breakaway part between energy and heat consistently did not pull away with the rest of the paper, but it was easy to peel off with a fingernail. Everything fit together very nicely and I look forward to using this in a game.

    That spot with no purpose that you made a cutout for to store player cubes is just TOP NOTCH my dude. Love your style, grabbed a playset off Etsy recently, thanks for compensating for what the developers clearly didn't want to add (I held out for 2nd edition in vain.)

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the kind words! Yes, I did consider making some additional items along the lines that you suggest, but in the end I felt they were more cumbersome than beneficial. The overlays right now are just slightly larger than the player mats and therefore fit pretty nicely in the box, but if I were to add anything additional they would probably cause an issue with space. I greatly appreciate the suggestions, though!

    I am getting into laser cutting myself. Where do you get your acrylic sheets?

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Cool! Be advised that clear acrylic can be difficult to come by these days due to the shipping crisis, and prices have risen considerably. Estreetplastics has been my supplier over the years. Good luck, and I hope you enjoy the hobby - it's a lot of fun!

    • @jacobwadsworth449
      @jacobwadsworth449 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have been using Estreet and they really are a great supplier. But if I don’t peel off the top paper layer it catches fire and tends to mess up the acrylic. Does that mean I am cutting too fast, or at too high of a power? Or could it be that my air exhaust system isn’t strong enough? Any tips?

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello! Unfortunately I'm not sure as I don't own the Big Box, but you may be be able to roughly measure it out using the overlay dimensions stated in the product listing (and also below). Hopefully this helps answer your question, but if you have any others or would like additional information, please don't hesitate to ask. Thanks for your interest! Each player board measures 9.17 x 6.81 x .24" (233 x 173 x 6mm). A stack of 5 boards is about 1.18" (30mm) tall.

    Can the breakaway from energy to heat be broken just half way so that to give half a wall offering some separation between the two as well as the ability to slide as well? I would like to break just the bottom half off (keeping the nub of course).

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Originally I explored a half-wall breakaway as you describe but in testing there were occasions when non-breakaway areas of the wall would snap, leaving jagged edges. To offer a consistently clean configuration I had to go with the full-wall breakaway that the product currently has.
      That being said, with an exacto knife it may be possible to get your desired result. The wall has "cracks" at the top, middle and bottom so conceivably you could cut the bottom half of the wall out. My only concern would be that the remaining top half of the wall would have a very weak connection to the main overlay and would likely break off with minimal force.

      DOn't own the game as of yetm but have been watching videos for about three days now! Have seen numerous "upgrades" for the player boards but yours does seem to be the most efficient and pleasing to the eyes! Once I get the game I will most likely purchase an entire set!

    Once you snap in the top and back piece, are you able to take it apart if needed without breaking it?

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes, absolutely! The snap system allows for multiple disconnection/reassembly. Of course it would need to be with care to avoid bending/breaking the acrylic, but it can definitely be done (I've done it many times on my copy).

    • @druskie4h
      @druskie4h 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BoardGameBoost thank you for replying so quickly! I bought the overlay without the backboard for some
      Friends and can’t play without it now. I just wanted to make sure before ordering my own set with the back piece. Do you have a video on that as well? I’m worried about breaking it since theirs have already cracked. The square corner by the right side of the board (by the titanium and heat), is really close to the edge and it cracked there without much force.

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@druskie4h Yes I'll admit that area of the "overlay without backboard" is delicate and needs to be handled carefully. When you ask if there's a video for that, what exactly are you referring to? This video that we're commenting on is the video for the "overlay with backboard" product. Please let me know and I'll do my best to assist!

    • @druskie4h
      @druskie4h 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      BoardGameBoost sorry for not being clear. I meant, is there a video on how to take apart the top and bottoms pieces?

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@druskie4h Ah, got it. No there is no video for that, but the process is relatively straightforward. I'd recommend getting the separation started by lightly pinching some over outer areas of the overlay top piece and applying gently pressure with your thumbs against the backboard. Once the overlay is slightly separated from the backboard, gradually work the overlay off the connectors going around the perimeter to try to get even progress across all connectors. In this way you avoid putting a lot of bend/strain on the overlay. Overall it's not a terribly risky procedure as long as you go slowly and carefully. Hope this helps! Feel free to drop me a note on Etsy if you'd like more detailed guidance.

    When will the store open again?

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Jim, I actually just reopened the shop but at a dramatically lower capacity. The amount of family responsibilities I have to juggle has increased significantly, so I won't have a much time to devote to the shop. To facilitate this, most items will have a low available quantity but will get reset each day. This will allow me to spread the work out and keep things manageable. So if the product you're looking for is out of stock, just check back the next day. My apologies for any inconvenience! And thank you for your interest.

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Paolo! In those somewhat-rare instances an additional technique can be used, such as leaving a cube in the "10" space or simply placing a loose cube on top of the overlay next to the "+10" slot (it would be the only loose cube in the entire overlay, so easy to restore in the event of a bump). I hope that helps, and thanks for your interest!

      Haha of course not! But I do always build acrylic components with them, to avoid internal fingerprints.

      @Boozamn 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought that at first, but I'm glad he showed me the way. I would of put it together only to realize that any light glare was showing off internal fingerprints, which would of made me spaz so hard that I could never focus on the gameplay in peace. /necro

    It is nice and sadly a much needed thing (they should have included something similar in the base game - maybe just fat cardboard with perforations), but at the current prices, it's just too much. $11 per set means that the complete set costs as much as an entire board game. Yes, you as a creator can put a price on your work as you see fit, then it's up to the market to decide if it's worth the money. But just looking proportionally, a set of those boards costing as much as an entire board game it is made for is bit too much for my taste. I hope it is not a problem for other people and that you make a nice $ off of those as the idea is good.

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Александар, thank you for your comments and feedback. The price of this product is reflective of the ever-increasing cost of the acrylic material, which this item uses a lot of due to its backboard aspect, as well as my need to manage demand a bit. I've been blessed with having created a popular product but I'm just a one-person operation balancing time with a career job and family with kids, so my capacity is very limited. I also sell a non-backboard version of this overlay which is priced much lower due to its significantly lower material and production costs. Lastly, please remember that I donate a portion of all shop profits to charity (the Jack Vasel Memorial Fund, www.jackvasel.org). I try to price my items as low as I can within my means for production and business model, as I'd like them to be as accessible as possible. Thanks again for your interest in my work!

    These are great but unfortunately the shipping costs of Etsy where you sell these are highway robbery. I can't justify spending 40 dollars shipping on something this small.

    • @BoardGameBoost
      @BoardGameBoost  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for your interest and kind words! Without knowing exactly where you're located, I can assume you're not in the US and agree the international shipping costs from the US are ridiculously expensive, for reasons I don't quite understand. Acrylic is also a heavy material (and this product in particular with the solid backboards) so that adds to the problem. Trust me, I wish shipping was more affordable as it's a huge obstacle for everyone, but as a one-person operation there's little I can do to reduce those costs. My sincere apologies.

    Hi, I've bought card sleeves for the boardgame War of the ring. And it is a problem that the card studded can not be put in its original box.
    It is a shame that there are people like you who help to make inserts cost very expensive to make an insert of this game because of the cards covered.
    Anyway I have no choice but to ask you to design a war of the ring insert in which you can put all your expansions in the same basic box. Are you willing to do it?

      It's really nice to have that option if you have the spare change & a desire for it. I personally hate player boards without notches or recessed slots when they contain a dozen or more moving parts. Having to nit-pick with fingernails when picking up or placing something (large hands add to it) is a PITA since I don't want to have to re-arrange the board every time I utilize it. To each their own, my dude.
