  • House Bolton has always been a throne in the side of the starks of Winterfell for all of recorded history. Power would swing between the Dreadfort and Winterfell until the starks ultimately prevailed. In this video, we take a look at the house boltons long history, from there time as The Red King's, to bannermen of the Starks, to the war of the five kings where they are now also the lords of Winterfell and Warderns Of The North as a reward for there part in the red wedding. But they are going to have a hard time keeping power when the winds of winter blow. In this video, we explore the Bloody House Bolton from George R R Martin's A song of ice and fire book series, and its HBO adaptation Game of Thrones, with it's prequel House Of The Dragon coming in 2020. Subscribe to World Of Westeros, for weekly lore videos based on A Song Of Ice & Fire and Game of Thrones as well as House Of The Dragon Speculation.

    I am fan of House Stark, but comment of Barba Bolton was simply awesome. All of the maidens were trying to win over the King. Barbra was just like: Look, if you are gonna send me away, at least give me some food because winter is here.
    Epic.

      @rakuencallisto Both Houses existed at the Same time and ruled separate regions of the North. The Stark King's of Winter expanded into Bolton territory and got flayed for it in some instances but the Starks eventually defeated them and made them submit. But both houses are natives to the north as far as the lore goes

      @@rakuencallisto Karstarks are most certainty not the oldest, they're just an offshoot branch of starks that became their own family. Boltons were there in the age of heros (before andals arrived in westeros) which make its really difficult to determine when any of those houses came to existence, as that era is semi mythological

    I really wish the Boltons had a Valyrian steel sword bc you know not only would it look cool AF but it would also have the most metal name of any Valyrian steel sword! Something like -
    Virgin Slaughter
    Bloody Glory
    Red death
    Hand of Dread
    Dread Blade or something like that

      I always wanted the Boltons to have a Valyrian steel sword as well. I like some of your sword names too. I thought of…
      Blood Feaster/Blood Drinker
      Pain Deliverance
      Spine Splitter
      Sinew Slicer
      Wraith’s Wrath
      Flesh Taster/Flesh Feaster
      Flesh Sunder
      Winter’s Bite
      Blood Baron
      Dread Knife (it could be a two hand knife like a Kreig Messer/Grosse Messer)
      In my head cannon the Boltons have a Valyrian steel knife/knives they use for flaying and or blood magic, and possibly the cat’s paw was sent by the Boltons to kill Bran Stark because a dead Stark is a good Stark.

    it would be really interesting if the night’s king was a bolton given the repeated descriptions of roose’s strangely pale eyes, and it would also parallel the theory that the starks have distant cotf blood (hence their abilities)

    • @WorldOfWesteros
      @WorldOfWesteros  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The role of the nights king really does seem to fit a Bolton more than anyone else, and I think the way Roose looks does maybe hint at that. If the starks do have cotf blood it would help give more reason to the rivalry with the Bolton’s for thousands of years, more so if the Bolton’s are somehow linked for he nights king

    Sadly the betrayal of Lord Bolton was not so obvious. Boltons had been loyal to the Starks for, at least, 300 years. Both houses have fought together in almost all conflicts during the Targaryen era. Of course, Bolton and Stark were rivals before the conquest but the last Bolton king bent the knee like 1000 years ago. Lord Bolton fought with Ned during the rebellion.

      @Zanigga-de2ks หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@matztz_4560 The North is not monolithic, and reducing it to the brutality of the Boltons is a mischaracterization.House Stark has maintained peace and stability in the North for generations through their principles of honor, justice, and responsibility. This stability contrasts sharply with the fear and chaos that characterize Bolton rule. The Boltons’ cruelty is an outlier rather than the norm, and the Starks’ long-standing leadership demonstrates that their values are deeply embedded in northern culture.Furthermore, the perception of northern savagery by the South often stems from cultural misunderstandings and biases rather than reality. The North’s harsh environment necessitates a different way of life, but this does not equate to inherent brutality. The Starks’ actions, such as rallying the northern houses against the White Walkers, show a capacity for unity and respect that transcends simple savagery.Additionally, the idea of southern moral superiority is flawed. The South has its own share of cruelty and political intrigue, as evidenced by houses like the Lannisters and the Freys. The Starks’ honor often exposes the moral shortcomings of these southern houses, challenging the notion that southern values are inherently superior.
